QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Well I doubt it since mormonism and christianity are entirely different and most branches of christianity consider morminism a "cult". No, they're not. Mormons are Christians.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Yeah, but if she's out there saying now that she thinks they're guilty, then her old statement as evidence basically becomes pretty useless. No, for 2 reasons. First, the newer statement gives no basis for her belief. The older statement included a factual statement (that they were only separated for five minutes or so) that casts doubt on the accuser's story, whatever the companion's personal opinion is. Second, because 'reasonable doubt' is the standard, any evidence that increases doubt is relevant, and certainly her statement does that.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) As always, the story here depends on who's reporting it. Not really. That quote is well known now. The stories agree completely on the new (to the public) evidence, it seems to me.

QUOTE(Wolverine31 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) I'm not sure if this was posted elsewhere but according to mlive Dmitri Young has checked himself into a Betty Ford Clinic in California. Rumors are of a drinking problem. This hasn't been a good year for Young with his injuries, the charge against him and now this. I hope he gets himself straightened out and I am beginning to think he won't ever play for the Tigers again. No way they will pick up his option when he has been paid millions for nothing this year. They weren't gonna pick up any option on Dmitri, anyway.

McNair Bound For Baltimore

QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) I 'use to' think you were wrong, but then... 'That shirt is not worth $10, much less $5'.... as in the shirt is worth $2. Oh yeah, I still think you are. At any rate, does this do a ton for the Ravens? I don't see McNair getting a superbowl ring with this team. As for the numbers, . You're just wrong on that. I doubt he gets a ring with them, at least this year. The holes in each line are too big. But it is a MASSIVE improvement over Boller. Even at the end of last year, he just looked like crap. He'd see someone 30-40 yards downfield and launch an offbalance rainbow in that general direction. If it was incomplete, the Ravens felt blessed. Jamal Lewis had an awful year, but played better towards the end. After the jail stay, it's reasonable to think he may have needed some time to get into game shape. Mike Anderson ran for 1,000 yards last year. And Musa Smith looked promising before a nasty broken bone two years ago. They're all questionable, but it's a good bet that they'll hit on one of the three. They also seem to have two good receivers in Mason and Clayton. And now they'll actually have some decent throws to catch. McNair is the big skill player missing. Now it's just up to the lines. So I disagree with Balta -- they have alternatives to Jamal. And on defense, I don't see age being a big problem -- Ed Reed is the center of that side now. They need to get better production from the d-line, though. No secondary can cover someone all day. -
QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) So are we in agreement the Sox make it a 3 peat from 05 to 07?
-
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) The Sox had much better pitching depth though, and the Twin's offense isn't mediocre right now, it's in the bottom 3 in the AL. They don't have anyone that is even close to as big a threat as Konerko last year, and a lot of their guys aren't really threats at all. They lack 3 and 4 type hitters, and only Mauer and Morneau really have the ability to step into those roles. Mauer can hit, but he still needs some power. Your 3 hitter can't finish with less than 15 homers if you want to succeed. He's really more of a 2 or 5 hitter right now. They need at least two other hitters to step up, and it'd help a lot of one of them was Morneau. I agree that they probably won't threaten much this year. But in the long run (say, in 2 years) they are as frightening as anyone, as 2/5 of their rotation could be flat-out unreal, and they have some of the pieces for the order. Dominant pitching is the hardest thing to find, and it appears they may have that. All imo, of course.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) Mauer is a hell of a hitter, but he still hasn't shown much of any power....and I want to see him stay healthy. And Morneau needs to hit more than .240 as well. Huh? Mauer's slugging .526 this year. It's not all about hr. About Morneau, yeah, I agree. He's been a huge disappointment for them. On his potential, that's jmho, based on seeing him play and his minor league stats. If they could just figure out that Cuddyer's a decent player, that would give them 3 pieces, plus the pitching. I watched the Sox last year win the WS with great pitching and a mediocre offense. I see no reason why the Twins could not eventually do the same.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) I'd have to say Pods is worse. I just hope BA starts hitting and we can all forget about this... Of course, I'm dreaming about millions in cash and Scarlett Johanson as well. No, I'm with you there -- on all three. But I still expect BA to get back on track. I just wonder how people would fall, in the unlikely, rare event that I'm wrong.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) I know a lot of high character people who aren't christian, and I know a lot of "christians" who are assholes. This is the dumbest s*** I've ever heard. Promoting good character like this I don't mind, however doing it through one specific religion is so dumb I can't even begin to explain it. You have to admit, though, that all Jews in baseball are pussies. I mean, Sandy Koufax was SO soft, always crying for days off and what-not.
-
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) No, just leave Pods in LF, where because of his speed he's passable. CF just exposes his route running problems too much. Okay... But cf exposes everything about Mack. Granted, they both suck. But cf is the more important position, so you have to ask, who is worse?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Death. See, I thought about ruling that out, but I thought it was overused. Now I see why.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) Minnesota has 2 terrifying starters in Liriano and Santana, and a stud closer in Nathan.....but other than that, I don't see a damn thing about them that scares me. 2 stud horses and a closer can win you some games, but that's not enough in this division. That's the base. (Though, I don't know how long Nathan will be there.) But you also have Mauer at catcher. And I can't believe Morneau isn't better than this. Yes, there are holes. But if your rotation sports 2 CY candidates, I think you can't be too far off. Liriano's not that yet, but still, omfg.
-
Just a hypothetical here -- If Mack becomes a regular, do we reevaluate Pods to cf? I do NOT think Pods is good in cf, but Mack's pretty awful too. If those are your 2 choices, who do you go with?
-
Long term, I'm as concerned about Minny as either of those. We all know what Santana can do, and when I've seen Liriano pitch -- omfg, hs, and wtf.

McNair Bound For Baltimore
jackie hayes replied to greasywheels121's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(chaerulez @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) Don't understand the point of this. How is McNair going to be heathly enough to play more than 5 games? I don't think he physically can. I would've given up no higher than a sixth round pick. Sure, he played in 14 games last year, threw for over 3,000 yards, but he's a lock to appear in no more than 5 games. :headshake The only other option was Kerry Collins, who had more yards last year, but only b/c he was in a throw-happy offense. He doesn't complete nearly the pct that McNair does. A 4th round pick for one of the most consistent qbs of the last decade? Yeah, I'll do that. -
Alt translation of a well-known passage: 'I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for Todd Helton to fit through the pearly gates with all his wads of cash from that absurd fat-ass ginormous contract.' If a bad team wants to find more ways to not improve itself, meh, more talent for the Sox, I guess.

Cubs can't do it if the Sox don't, and they won't. So, anyway.

I have to say, I like the thought of Hernandez. And what happened to the Osuna love? What is he doing now, btw? Edit: All that said, if Tracey gets the job done, hallelujah.
-
Agreed. And I love Lopez, but that's not even close.

I've underestimated how far gone the Republican party is. First the gas 'credit', now this. When Rush Limbaugh protests being treated like a whore by the GOP, now that's something. Gay marriage, well, at least I can understand it as an issue. Flag burning is pure demagoguery. It's a little sad to me that that will probably garner more support. (Just a hunch, feel free to correct me if that's wrong.)

I would SO come to that queen's defense.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 24, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Plus combine the fact that he's had a bad back since he was 10 and his high school coach once allowed him to throw 2 innings in a game 30 mintues after he had thrown 146 pitches, and you've got a recipe for disaster Hs, sympathy for a Cubbie. Say it ain't so, Cubsessed... I'm a good Cub hater of the first degree, but to me that means that I want to see them lose, nothing more. Pro baseball is still about entertainment, and, I'm sorry, but when Wood is at the top of his game, he's still one of the pitchers I most enjoy watching. That is rarer and rarer, of course... I remember watching Mark Prior strike out 16 Brewers, only to see the pen blow it. God DAMN, that was a great day.
-
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) I want him really really bad, i love that guy Maybe try this thread? All I meant was, is there any evidence the Sox or looking to acquire Griffey, or just evidence that Rozner was desperate for column inches?

Eva (n) Longoria selected third overall
jackie hayes replied to Steve9347's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) They were saying Baseball Tonight last night he has no relation to Eva. Then someone's head's gotta roll on this one. The Barry/Berry mixup fades before this colossal blunder.
