  1. Y'know, the baseball one makes some sense. At least he looks like a coach. In the other 2, he's playing against them. "Jesus is my opponent"?
  2. QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 18, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) Neifi Perez goes for a bunt with 2 outs in the 9th......what the f***?? ...and fails. (You forgot the best part.)
  3. Montague's the home plate ump? Strike zone seems to be jumping a bit, especially on 3rd strikes. Fick and Murton both got jobbed, imo.
  4. QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 18, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) That includes 3 against the pitcher and damian jackson, who also took him deep. No, only 2, and only one on the pitcher. Soriano and Johnson in the 1st Ward in the 3rd Byrd in the 4th Jackson and Ortiz in the 5th It sounds like he left some strikes over the middle of the plate, but overall, not that bad an outing. If I'm the Cubs, I'm happy w/ 5 h, no walks, and 6k's over 5.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 17, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) I do have sympathy for them. Do you know how many parties in college have stripers at them? We had at least 4 a year, its a commonplace. Secondly, because of this bogus accusation, they lost their season, their reputation, and their privacy. It sucks. Its blatently obvious that this was a sham, and its pathetic. Oh, that's fine. Everyone loves candy. This isn't about having strippers. If they want to go to a strip show, fine. If they want to hire strippers, okay, go for it. If they want to pressure the strippers to, uh, utilize broom handles, get aggresive enough that the strippers they hired lock themselves in the bathroom, shout racist remarks as they're leaving, and send emails about skinning people alive, then I'm not so accepting. There's just some line between being a rowdy and being a thug, and that behavior crosses it. And I don't care a jot if it's common.
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ May 17, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Any DA that decides its a better idea to fight his battles with the press than in front of a judge does not deserve to be a DA. I don't know what's going on and frankly, these celebrity cases come too quickly for me. I'm still trying to find that highschooler in Aruba. He was pretty damn friendly with the press until the dna results came back. Say what you want, that's more than a little suspicious.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 17, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Who is worse, some assholes or someone who faked a rape to try and send some "assholes" to jail. I'm not saying she comes off well. But that doesn't mean I have much (really, any) sympathy with the lacrosse players. I'll wait for the evidence, but as of now, I'm hoping they don't go to jail. I hope they don't get jack s*** besides that, though. Personally, I'd go further -- I can't really imagine how I'd feel after going through that (I don't mean being raped, I mean just what the players agree did happen). But I'd sure as hell be thinking about getting back at them. At least it makes sense to me, even if it's obviously the wrong choice. "I'm not saying he should have killed her...but I understand." But as far as the case goes, that's neither here nor there. The 'moral case' is irrelevant for the legal one.
  8. I don't think the lacrosse players raped her, BUT -- let's stop trying to make out these guys as poor, put-upon innocents. There's a lot to suggest that many of the players are just racist, spoiled scum. The email, the broom handle suggestion, the "cotton shirt" comment. The most obvious reason to make the accusations is not money, but as a reaction to the general assholeness of the players. I don't want to see anyone wrongly convicted, but beyond that, f*** them.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 16, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) We need more whiite babies. If you're not ready and willing to procreate, John Gibson is. I just saw that bit this afternoon on the Colbert rerun, and I'm still shocked. Wtf does it take to get fired from Fox? Would blackface be enough, or would Gibson actually have to lynch someone?
  10. I was going to talk about the tremendous effect watching Matt Merullo and Kevin Hickey had on me as a Sox fan, and as a person. But after Milkman's post, I feel like I have to find someone obscure. Fisk, Ventura, Crede. I tend to admire players at positions that I was no good at.
  11. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 16, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) The only reason Fields' on-base percentage is over .400 is due to his inflated batting average. He has never been and probably never will be known for his eye or plate discipline at any professional level. I wouldn't call one walk per ten at-bats 'very good' at the AAA level, I'll go with decent. We all know that ratio will decrease upon callup to the Sox. Suggesting him to leadoff is far-fetched. My hope for Fields this season is to keep up the slugging and cut down on some of those K's. ^^^^^^^ The guy strikes out 1 out of 3 abs, and he walks only 1/3rd as often. I'm willing to believe he can improve on both areas, but leading off, next year? Lol. Grady Sizemore he ain't. He's a middle of the order bat, and I really hope he's not expected to contribute anything to the big league club until 2008.
  12. Just more proof. Mark Buehrle is not an ace.
  13. QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 14, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) Jose has said it for awhile. No psychiatry needed. Well, then it's definitive. If it had been obvious that Jose was going to turn it around, there would have been no trade, nor any debate about the winner of the trade. So I have no problem putting him in with pitchers who defied the odds in a big way.
  14. QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 14, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) You can't compare Jose to those situations. Everyone knew Jose has some of the best stuff in the league. Most of the problems were in his head. Once he "got right" and added the arm angles, there was no reason to think he couldn't be dominant past last year. Jon Garland I could see. Actually, I can. The others are young, Jose was adjusting to MLB. I don't see any problem. I'm not a psychiatrist. All I see is whether they're getting the outs or not. I am proud to be part of a board where everyone is capable of reading the minutiae of a player's motivations from the break on his curveball, but, alas, I am not so gifted.
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 14, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Mike Maroth's career ERA is 4.72. This year, it's 2.55. Nate Robertson's career ERA is 4.76. This year, it's 3.27. Color me skeptical. These two won't be pitching on cloud nine forever... Jose Contreras, Jon Garland. I'm sceptical too, but it's been done, and recently.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ May 14, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) We give way too much credit to some of our guys sometimes. In the 5th inning, Vazquez had no command of his fastball. Also, the pitch selection was brutal. You can't be putting 90 mph fastballs right down the plate to Batista. Throwing 4 straight curves in the same location to Hunter is just idiotic also. Vazquez is a good pitcher, but he didn't have a lot of crispness to his pitches last night. Lets not turn into Cubs fans, and think that something drastic has to be happening every time one of our pitchers gets hit hard. ^^^^^^ Doesn't matter if you tip your pitches if you throw the same thing over and over to the same hitter. The call was bs, but Javy was also pitching like s***.
  17. Didn't you hear? The Knicks are gonna trade Steve Francis for Kevin Garnett. Because that makes so much sense for Minnesota. Seriously.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ May 14, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) Ironically 4 of the pitchers on that list are on ONE of my fantasy teams. 4. On one team. Thanks, Alanis.
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 14, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) That mofo is blitzed as hell. No way that's just being high, and there's no way he's just drunk. Drunk is enough for some. Or 90% drunk, 10% idiot. Wow, he's gone.
  20. If Duke's not on your fantasy team, he doesn't make that list. How about guys who were expected to be decent rotation filler, and end up sucking worse than the suckiest suck? Rodrigo Lopez, Jeff Weaver, Matt Cain. And don't forget Tim Hudson. He's had a couple stellar outings to bring his overall numbers down, but when a guy of his pedigree has a pattern of games that reminds you more of Daniel Cabrera than Tim freaking Hudson, that's a disappointment.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) You need to be logged in to gain access. I am logged in. But it seems to change my name from "jackie hayes" to "jackie_hayes". So maybe it doesn't recognize "jackie_hayes". Anyone with spaces in their name try the chat?
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 11, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) Anyone wanna give the new chat a spin? No white sox game today, but then again the chats tend to wander anyways..... btw, the new chat is AWESOME I keep getting a message that I can't connect to the server. Anyone else find this? Any ideas?
  23. This really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really blows.
  24. QUOTE(Felix @ May 10, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) Yes. Thanks. Sorry for the inane questions, I just have Gameday and the internet radio.
  25. Is BMac coming out again? Edit: Talk about stretching.
