Official NFL General Discussion Thread
jackie hayes replied to Balta1701's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
What about that call... The announcers are swearing up and down that Bailey wasn't cocksure about the td, just running out of gas. Bs, if Ben Watson catches Champ Bailey, Champ Bailey isn't trying hard enough. I'm a huge fan of Bailey, but they sound like idiots making excuses for him. -
Hmm... "Do you think the president should or should not have the power to authorize the National Security Agency to monitor electronic communications of suspected terrorists without getting warrants, even if one end of the communication is in the United States?" 2 things. First, "suspected terrorists" seems misleading -- for me, it's not good enough that they're suspected by just anyone in the WH. The whole point of requiring a warrant is to confirm that a suspicion is reasonable. Only after that vetting do I consider the person a "suspect" in any official sense. Second, I think the Pres should be able to wiretap w/o already having a warrant, as long as he follows the law and acquires one after the fact. But not without any getting of warrants, ever. The question does say that no warrant need ever be got, but I wasn't sure which was meant after reading it once, and I imagine some people might have thought it just meant 'no warrant before'.

Nancy Faust will be back - Part Time
jackie hayes replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And Steve Perry'll do the night games, right? -
I think he argued that all his positive tests (2 minor, 1 major) are due to one period of use. I've read scuttlebutt that claims that it's possible, and noone saying that it's an absurd claim, so at least for now I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Snubbed Gossage rips Hall of Fame voters
jackie hayes replied to Pierzynski 12's topic in The Diamond Club
I don't mind ripping the voters, but if I was Sutter and just went to bat for Goose and Smith and relievers, and then read 'How did he get in before me???', I'd be pissed. Seems a little low. Even though, personally, I agree that Gossage deserves it more... -
QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) I run marathons, but slowly, realy slowly, so slow in fact that I plod. So I'm a ploderer, but not just any plderer; I am The Ploderer. But after running that far I am unable to pronounce my Th's and it comes out De, hence Deploderer. I thank you. The mystery is solved! I always wanted to know this. Sox 2b in the 1930s who lost his eyesight after a cinder fell in his eye in a game against the f'n Cubs. When I played ball, I was usually a 2b, and it's a great story. And again, he was a GUY.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) How does Sutter make it and not Gossage????? QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) Sutter's in. Yet Tommy John, Jim Kaat and Bert Blyleven remain out. It makes no sense. That, and that. Sutter was good, but for a career of only 1000 ip, a little over 10 years, not dominant enough. A couple excellent years, mixed with some good and some mediocre, shouldn't really cut it.

Dunno -- I took a hs polisci class (a while ago now) with a very liberal teacher who wasn't shy w/ his views, and I was (then) very conservative, and it turned out great. It was fun, partisanship was encouraged -- Dems on one side of the room and Repubs on the other. Feel the class out, don't drop it just b/c the teacher wears his heart on his sleeve. If nothing else, those two letters (AP) always improve a transcript.

Marcus Vick kicked off Va Tech
jackie hayes replied to Nokona's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(JimJab @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 05:19 AM) I was reading the Sun-Times and he made the comment of saying, "I'm just going to move onto the next level, baby" or something along those lines. Just like southsider2k5 side, I hope the nfl turns its back on him. Unfortunately, with the last name Vick, I think he'll get drafted. And maybe more than just drafted. Rotoworld's take is that he's a near certain first-rounder... Is this equally obvious to all the draftniks here?
