  1. "It's kind of ridiculous that you get a 10-game suspension for steroids and a six-game suspension for milk." You're not helping my fantasy team, but at least you help me laugh. Wow, this thread has been so educational. Thanks, fellas.
  2. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Lots of folks. For example, the reason we lost last night was Timo pinch hit for Iguchi in the 9th. That's a complaint about Ozzie's choices, not about Timo. We all realize that Timo can't help it that he's terrible. Seriously, noone's blaming Timo for this slide. He's just a bench player, we all get that.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) Sooooo many offensive problems, sooooo little time. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) The issues with this offense are plentiful, to the point that finding a scapegoat like Dye doesn't accomplish much. ^^^^^ Those. Btw, who in the world is blaming this slide on Timo? That comment made me lol.
  4. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) I disagree, the Sox need fans exactly like him. Fans that demand success, rather than living with mediocrity. The Cub fans live with mediocrity, and show up regardless, what incentive do the owners have to improve the team? For years Reinsdorf said he would do something if the fans showed up...well, we've shown up, and they responded by getting us Geoff Blum rather than the bat we needed, which everyone could see we needed, especially after the loss of Thomas. This team still has a great chance to win the division (they SHOULD NOT be able to lose it), but out chances of winning in the post season...I just don't see it. Bs, just look at the thread title. This is the same kind of pity-party Cubs fans have been having for decades. Woe is me, it's a curse. No, it's the f'n players, they're not good enough to win. (At least, until this year.) That's why losing just flat out sucks. It's not a badge of honor, there's nothing supernatural about it, you're just not good. And everyone's got a right to be negative after this swoon, but saying the team has "absolutely no chance of making the playoffs" is such a tremendous crock of s*** when we still have (as you point out) a decent lead in the division. That screams 'Getting in on the ground floor,' not demanding success.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:20 AM) I created a Fantasy Football SoxTalk League 2. Sign up and reply here as to who you are. Here is the info: League Name: SoxTalk League #2 I'm in, from now on I shall be known as ImTimCouch&UMyb****.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:42 AM) The Royals were once one of the best franchises in baseball. Also, I bet you two seasons ago, they thought they were primed for a great stretch. Tigers too. I mean, man, they had Ty Cobb. The Royals draft based primarily on salary, they'll trade away anyone who'll earn more than $5 mil, unless he's named Sweeney. Not only are they awful, there's been no commitment to improve, and there's no great hope in sight. I'm sure a couple delusional souls thought the turnaround was real, but still I don't remember the 'fluke' talk ever being louder. The Sox won't get to that. I'm not saying an awful year isn't possible, though I don't think it'll be next year. But it won't be a perpetual thing. That is, we won't be the new Cubs, dammit.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:38 AM) ...because there's no guarantee we don't turn into the Royals in the future. Now....f*** TIMO! Ha, the Royals? There's no way. And I prefer OMIT TIMO!!!
  8. Dammit! I wanted to start this thread! IN. Edit: I thought about starting one a week ago as a joke. Now, not so funny.
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) Problem with tonite is people will simply use Santana's stature as an excuse for their performance. It stands out more with Garcia's game, but it's far from an aberration. We've seen him for the third time this year. He's not molded from the arms of the best pitchers in baseball history. Teams have beaten him. Make adjustments. Take a few pitches. If we're losing, lose with several walks and more than 3 f***ing hits; 2 of which came off a reserve player in Ozuna. Hey, if we start winning tomorrow (start and not finish), I'm fine w/ using the Santana defense. O/w (God forbid), I don't think anyone'll do that. Everyone's frustrated now, even the optimists.
  10. Okay, this is frustrating. But I'm still f'n IN. All the way. Just to be clear.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) I am one of the board optimists on here, everyone knows that. HOWEVER, we are all hoping the Sox win the whole god damn thing. If a team is supposed to do that, you need to beat the good ones. There isnt anymore "We ran into a good one." Were supposed to be the good ones. You want to be the Best, you have to be the Best. We don't and Can't do either. Well said. This is abysmal. I know it's Santana, but this has been weeks now. Even at the end of our last (too short) win streak, we were winning 2-1, 3-2, etc. Score some runs, already, pick up someone by trade, help. I don't think we're this bad, but I didn't think that early in the season, either, and now it's worse. Don't let this one away.
  12. Wow, Bush really is efficient. I didn't even notice when the war w/ Iran started!
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) IIRC, he was out of options so in order for the Sox to option him to Charlotte they had to send him through waivers. He cleared and was outrighted to AAA however he remained on the 40. I thought you only optioned someone outright if you were taking them off the 40 man, no? I think Walker had to pass waivers, but he was just optioned, not outrighted.
  14. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Can he play 3B also? I know that he can play 2B and SS, but could he play third. Dunno. He's played a handful of games there this year, but I don't know if he's any good. I'm not trying to be an advocate for Aurilia, and he won't be coming here if he passed waivers. It just seems like a 'why not?' proposition, if you only have to pay him $100k or so for the remainder of the season. I'm surprised nobody picked him up. The Twins took a shot at Boone, why not Aurilia?
  15. Now why did Aurilia make it through waivers? He's having a decent year, and b/c he signed a minor league deal, I'd think he'd be dirt cheap.
  16. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) Sorry, spataro, but what you did was repeat a rumor that two very prominent players would be suspended for steroid use, and you named names. That post you made was spread throughout the Internet (I've seen the links to Soxtalk) and may very well have been the source for further reports on radio, etc. I don't know what to make of the rumor, but I think the idea that this all started with Soxtalk is downright laughable. Maybe it's silly, but I believe most journalists are halfway competent and halfway honest. Repeating anything from spataro's post is not much better than just making s*** up out of thin air.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) Threw his elbow out at Chacon when Chacon went to tag him. Definitely the type of play that will get someone hit because of it. Thanks, fathom.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Real classy by AJP there. Mercy, this team has totally lost their focus. I wasn't paying attention, then I just caught the end of the whole thing. What did he do?
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) Good point, but Eckstein getting busted would SHOCK me. Signing a fat contract will make those parts a lot less important to some. I dunno about that. Before, you're an athlete. Now, you're a rich athlete. I'd guess they'd get far more use than before. No :crosslegs smiley, I see.
  20. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) I read on the mlb.com message board that livan hernandez and tejada were also going to be named this afternoon around 3ish are time....im hoping this is all a bunch of BS tho, this would f*** the game of baseball up badly At least that would explain that weird bit earlier in the season where Hernandez almost walked away. But the MLB boards is a pretty bad source for anything.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) ....or because he's up to a stagerring 175 lbs. soaking wet and with a pocket full of change? That HAS to be a joke. Remember that Alex Sanchez was one of the first players nailed this year. Steroids don't always make you big. In fact, the most important parts...

    Healthy Beer

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) .... It's... Beer-tastic? Slainte'? Actually, beer has had the moniker of 'the elixer of life' in some civilizations since the Sumerians and Egyptians. Fun fact. No... Doctor's orders!
  23. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 03:11 AM) I don't think that they've ever drafted in the top 5 til now. Huh? Just off the top of my head, I know Hampton was 4. And looking it up, Payton was 4 (I knew he was high, just didn't know where exactly). And certainly they've had more than that. Do you mean recently?

    Healthy Beer

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 03:05 AM) Of course beer is good for you! Say it! Say it!
  25. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 02:51 AM) If everyone can trace this rumor to this site, it better be true, or we're gonna get ripped. Disagree. I think most posters have been pretty cautious. And if the national media utters a single word based on such a flimsy source, it won't be the source that looks ridiculous.
