  1. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 04:14 AM) Did I mention I hate PK? I'm confused... PK drew a lot of pitches out of Harden, helping put an end to his night. What am I missing? Course now we'll get Duchscherer, Street. Out of the frying pan, etc.
  2. This has sucked, and the analysis will follow, but in the here and now this game is still right there. Sure, it's all due to dumb luck. But it'll still be a win, there's no reason to get too upset now. That said, I'm curious why we used our 2 least reliable bullpen arms first, while the game is still close. The game could much easier have been lost there than it could in the 8th w/ nobody out.
  3. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 03:46 AM) GOD! is kevin walker ready yet? Sign of the apocalypse right there. And no. But he never will be.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 03:40 AM) I thought he was Cuban, but I'm wrong. Looks like I hate all Cubans then. No way. You can't say that on the day Livan Hernandez beat the Cubs.
  5. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 03:37 AM) it starts at 10 PM! what do you expect
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) ^I meant this. Contreras has the best stuff of any pitcher around. If any person on this site had half the talent as him, they'd be an ace. If it weren't for Ozuna, I'd probably hate all Cubans Ozuna's Dominican I believe -- ??
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) Now this is a gamethread I want to participate in. Jim, Jackie, R44, Willie.. more of the people I want to see. Aw, crap, now who told Keith about this?
  8. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 12:09 AM) You are making the assumption that the drug companies will act like a consortium & slow the supply to Canada. I don't think that will happen. Why? Because there are Latin American companies just itching to get those contracts. There is simply too much competition for the bulk contracts. Canada's supply would not be threatened. Uh, no. They don't have to act like a 'consortium', they can act like producers with some monopoly power over the drugs they produce. Which is reasonable, because they are producers with some monopoly power over the drugs they produce. They have licensing rights and can set the price they want for their drug (within the laws, of course). These "Latin American companies" cannot just make the same drug and bulk ship it to the US. (Maybe they can sell it locally, depending on patent enforcement. I know that happens in many countries. But that's irrelevant here.) I'm betting the drug companies won't be quite so live-and-let-live about patent violations. Maybe because it's their only major source of revenue. Just a theory.
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) Suspension? Would that affect his eligibility? I dunno, I figured it would only apply to team games. But maybe. It would be very difficult to exclude him if he's eligible.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) Those are 6 I can confidently say are locks. Any suggestiosn for locks? If he's healthy, Kenny Rogers is a sure thing.
  11. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) did anyone else see his scout video that mlb.com had when he was drafted?....he looks like prince fielder, just a huge guy.....hes 19, hitting 440 (yeah its early)....but still Yeah, iirc he batted lh, real big kid. He had a pretty, quick swing, but his problem was that he didn't make consistent contact and rolled up a lot of strikeouts. (I think even in the clip, his swing looks great, but he's not making much solid contact -- ??) So if he can continue hitting for a high average and drawing walks, that'll be a coup for the Sox. But we're talking about 30 abs so far, that's REAL early.
  12. No wheels now. I had the greatest car in the world, never had any troubles with it, didn't even need oil changes, but you-know-who got it in the split. What chafed me even worse was when she posted pics on the internet of this new guy driving the car that I spent 6 goddam years paying down. Yeah, the b**** really likes to rub it in.
  13. William Kristol called this last week, apparently. He also predicted that Alberto Gonzales will be her replacement. And his complaint about Gonzales is that, even though he's more conservative than O'Connor, he's still not conservative enough. So I'm pretty certain the neocons do not want O'Connor on the court. If you mean they wanted her to stay for some reasons of political chess, that I don't know.
  14. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) Actually, they're not. They wanted her to stick around. I'm surprised by this. Oh, so presumably they'll replace her w/ another swing vote, right?
  15. Neocons sobbing with joy, Christmas in July.
  16. QUOTE(Adam G @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) The dude can walk on water, I dont think he'll have any problem walking on a couple of empty Colt 45 bottles. True. And it's gotta be more pleasant than walking on the 'water' on the floor of Wrigley johns. Hallelujah, White Sox! And btw, if You're listening, I'll buy if you'd be willing to multiply the hot dogs and beers a few times over. Standing offer, Big Guy.
  17. Some dark horses to consider -- Andy Sisco for the Royals, Haren and Harden for Oakland. I don't think any of them'll actually get in, but I'd guess they're in play. Harden's obviously the unlikeliest, w/ all the missed time. One of Duchscherer and Street has to get in, too.
  18. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 01:34 AM) as long as he pays some money and takes an empty seat in the park, fine by me. "...and in the seventh inning he arose again, in fulfillment of Nancy Faust -- although he wasn't too sure he liked the name 'Faust', but oh well..." See, I merely assumed he was just watching at home. I didn't know how the whole barefoot thing would go over on the red line. But maybe, just maybe, I've already met our Lord. I just hope it wasn't that fat guy w/ the mouth of a sailor who dropped his ciggy on me when I was a kid.
  19. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) As for Chavez, I highly doubt he's getting moved at this point. They're really starting to play well, and they did commit an awful lot of money to him. Crede and B-Mac sounds a little light anyways. Can someone explain why exactly BB would be looking to unload Chavez? He's signed for what, 5 more years? For the entire prime of his career. I keep hearing that the A's are rebuilding as a reason to trade Chavez. Even accepting that premise (which I don't), it doesn't take 6 years to rebuild, especially when you have so much good young pitching. (I'm not saying they've got Mulder and Hudson II, but Harden is REALLY good, and Haren's pitching well. Blanton's recovering from the bad start. That's a nice foundation.) Why on earth would anyone trade one of the best hitting, best fielding players in the major leagues, who's signed at a reasonable price, who won't leave the team for many, many years?
  20. Just what we need, another bandwagon-jumper.
  21. Happy b-day Keith. /insert beer joke here
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 05:35 AM) Baseball has an exemption built into this nation's laws that no other sport has...they are by law exempted from anti-trust laws that regulate interstate commerce. What this does is basically give MLB the ability to keep control over their franchises. The biggest example I can give is something like the Oakland Raiders...when Al Davis wanted to move that team, he moved it even without the NFL's permission...the NFL can't regulate it because of anti-trust laws. Because of Baseball's exemption, they have control over their teams. Every time Baseball does something Congress doesn't like (1994 strike, steroids)...removing the anti-trust exemption comes up as a threat from Congress to get MLB to go along with whatever Congress wants. Baseball usually caves. One small detail here -- the anti-trust exemption is not really "built into...laws", it's due to a bad Supreme Court decision in the 1920s. (So, a bad interpretation of the laws rather than bad laws.) That's why other leagues do not have the same exemption. The ruling only applied to baseball, and judges have let that judgement stand (stare decisis) for baseball, while applying the law correctly to other sports. (Davis's suit against the NFL, for example.) Because the exemption is based on an interpretation of legislation (rather than interpretation of the Constitution, say), Congress could pass a law simply saying that the anti-trust laws should apply to baseball and ka-pow, bye bye exemption.
  23. I don't mind the clumping, but they do get stale. Maybe the megathreads would work better if they were retired once in a while, say once a month like the 'Quotes' threads. Just a thought.
