QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) I bet Bill Frist feels pretty f***ing stupid right about now. Hey, whaddya know, I'm finally agreeing w/ Bill Frist.

Official story about collapse of the WTC 'bogus'
jackie hayes replied to KipWellsFan's topic in SLaM
Outlandish conspiracy theories that reference science and engineering should come from a scientist or engineer. Just a thought. This thread actually makes me a bit more optimistic -- the Bush WH IS willing to fire monumentally stupid people, even Texans. -
The house that juice built?

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 04:02 AM) Uh oh. How big was the earthquake that caused Decembers Tsunami? Much, much bigger. 9.0-9.3, according to Wikipedia. Linkage.

7.0 earthquake, 80 miles off the Calif coast. Edit: Some sources say 7.4. Whatever, a big quake.

Hooray! No complete game today. Gosh, that's a small win for us right there.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:41 AM) Glaus had been pretty awful for a long time before the last few days. In the Twins series last week, he couldn't hit a thing. We haven't made very good pitches to him, and like usual, he's kicked our ass. You're overstating things. He was in a bit of a funk, but not "pretty awful". In the Twins series, 2 for 10 w/ 2 bb and 2 k. Nothing that would concern anyone. He killed the Royals, but (of course) who doesn't? And he's had a darn good year overall. He's one hell of a hitter when healthy, it's not surprising that he made solid contact.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) Anyone notice how every out against Shingo seems to be a "loud" out? Last night, nearly every ball was hit to the track against him. We need bullpen help, and pronto. It's ridiculous that we don't have a long man, and we're going to need another lefty. I don't know if this has generally been true, but this is not 'just another example' of that. It's Troy freaking Glaus, he hits everything hard, and he's done little wrong this entire year. Really, Shingo did pretty well here, given the situation.

Those tax cuts look a whole lot less problematic to people who can't count.

We're being pwned by Shawn Estes for chrissakes. Who's not wearing his rally cap?

Oh yeah, well I'll show you: Ha.

Screw this. We better have another road trip coming up soon, or else the season's over.

Welcome to Soxtalk! Questions about the game as it's going on usually go in the game thread. Just a fyi. They'll get more attention there, anyway.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) The first time I saw the "tiny house" one I thought it was a real show. So did I. The only thing that made me a bit suspicious was that the buildup looked exactly like something Fox would do, but I was watching one of the big 3 (ABC, CBS, NBC).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) I like that idea, maybe even a couple hundred more, so I dont have to answer the, when do the rosters expand question. I don't like the idea, it will only make matters worse. If you think PHT has a lot of fluff posts now, just wait until every newbie must post hundreds of times before starting a thread about the only question he's really interested in. Plus, I don't like the idea of a class system based on post counts, but that's jmo. And I agree w/ ss2k5 -- basic questions are not the problem. It's 2 posts, question and answer. (And maybe a thank you, depending...) That's not the problem. (Actually, I think it makes the board better, more useful.) It's the 20 20-page threads about how much the team sucks after every loss, the flame wars reenacted over and over, and the trade threads rambling endlessly about how we're going to acquire any given player in the league w/o one scintilla of rumor (I'm not even asking for a credible one). And more, just some examples.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) How about that moron ripping on Contreras? LOL!!! Jeez -- I don't mind critical comments after a win, but you're reaching big time when you totally ignore the game the team JUST played. Edit: Plus it's total bs. But at least bs about TODAY'S game. -

First question of the postgame is about yesterday's game... :headshake Then one about how our starting pitching is a problem. As fans, we do not know how to win. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 05:09 AM) Jackie our offense hasnt been good this entire year. They have had flashes here at there, however over all are not good. How many times this year have we had men in scoring position with less than two outs only to leave them stranded. The twins and other good clutch teams shorten their swings up with 2 strikes, and foul off the pitchers pitch. We however take pitches down the middle over and over then swing at stuff out of the strikezone. Having 3 guys strike out with men on 1st and 3rd with no one out is embarassing. I mean you couldnt put the ball in play. Watching that japanese pitcher K a bunch of guys when you have men on was also equally embarassing. Our hitters refuse to adjust for the long haul. They will have one game were they hit up the middle and to the other field then to get into long pull only swings the next few games. The only difference between last year and this year is we have better pitching and our 1st 3 hitters have been good. If a team shuts down our first 3 the game is over. We lost this game due to our terrible offense, as much as everyone wants to jump on Hermy this game should of been at least 4 or 5 to nothing going into the ninth. I give the Padres pitcher credit, with the free long swinging team we have, you get ahead of our hitters you can mow them down like weeds. Actually, I was referring to the Hermanson criticism more than anything -- he is slumping lately. I'm not going to defend the offense this game, or this season. -
It's all true. Hermanson is not as good as his start. The guy's been pitching forever, just look at his career numbers. Tonight was also a big case of s*** offense. Sorry, but 1 f'n run? So, given that, you blame the one that's been great all season instead of the one that's been consistently awful? Are you kidding?

Is this board totally unable to accept a slump? At the beginning of the season -- oh, it'll be a tough fight, oh, we'll go through rough patches, blah blah blah. Get off it, tough losses happen. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 04:27 AM) Exactly, but who would have ever thought Cotts would be pitching so good? Cotts and Politte are our only reliable arms in the pen right now. Who would have ever thought that before the season? Who cares? The fact that Cotts doesn't suck as much as you thought he would makes it a sad day? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 04:24 AM) Yes they have. Not only that, but Hermanson has pitched awful recently. However, you can't fault Ozzie for going to his closer. It's a sad day when Cotts might be our best reliever. ...when Cotts has been lights out? I fail to see how it's a sad day when our "best reliever" has been brilliant. -
The singing road trip -- "Ohhhh -- Everybody was kung-fu fighting! Those cats were fast...as.....light...ning." Save it -- even family members think I'm nuts for loving that commercial.
