  1. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 05:29 AM) Muhammad and Gardner is a bad WR combo. Neither has much speed. Both are big physical jumpers. No, what we put on the field last year was "bad". Mush and Gardner would simply be 'not ideal', but still pretty damn good. I still don't see why Washington makes this deal. Talk about a team with needs. And if they're aiming at 'making a splash', to me that sounds like Braylon Edwards, who doesn't look to last to #4. Not that I'd ever question the wisdom of Dan Snyder...
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) Has A-Train signed with anybody yet? No. Most teams that have looked at him are waiting to see how the draft shakes out, or so I've heard.
  3. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) I would bet El Duque would have little problem throwing at him...maybe not to hurt him but send a very strong message to him. What can El Duque crank that fastball up to? A message, sure, but I don't know if it'll be "very strong." After seeing the extended quote: Ozzie's in the right here, but I really wish he'd tone it down a bit. He throws a Lee Elia about every damn thing.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) I also think we can get a pretty good TE at two. If that Miller kid is still there (out of West Virginia, right?), then that's damn good value in the second round... Virginia, not West Virginia. Regardless of who we pick up in the 1st round, that would be a haul.
  5. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:25 AM) Ok i guess Im the only one who backs ozzie, what ever. No, did you see my post? At least on this I back Ozzie 100%. But that doesn't mean I'll turn on someone who's always been a good poster who disagrees.
  6. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:18 AM) sounds like cubbie talk to me Not even close. P&J's one of the better posters on this site, imho.
  7. Wow, how many times have I defended Ozzie? Is this the first? Maggs, you're such a prick. The guy who singled you out as a great player who should have gotten a chance earlier, and you finger him as the bad guy? Let it go. You have a hundred f'n million dollar contract, and you b**** ABOUT IT? Stfu. You got more money injured than you deserved healthy, and you b****? You're injured this moment for a (hernia???? INSERT INJURY HERE), and you... And that's enough. Maggs is just not worth it, people.
  8. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) Hayes, I agree. If we were looking at Andre Johnson, or some WR that was just flat out sick, then yes I would say WR. But I think we are looking at possibly 3 of the best RB prospects that have come out in a while. Each of them could be one of the top running backs in a few years. To not pick one would hurt the future is my opinion. Completely agree. Btw, I Andre Johnson. Way to get my vote for poster of the year!
  9. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:54 AM) jackie, Starting RB's are generally more valuable to a team than a wr in terms of production. RB touches the ball usually atleast 50% of the time. All I'm saying (and again, I agree that we should take a rb in the 1st round) is that it depends how good the wr is. He may be a #2 wr this year, but... If the Bears' scouts all agree that they've got the next Terrell Owens (or Marvin Harrison) on their hands, that'd be wrong to pass up. I don't see that, so I'd prefer they go Benson, but I think it's a close call.
  10. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) Hayes, Nah thats a bad argument. Harrison would just have to be 3x more productive per touch. If we assume a RB gets about 3 yds pc, the WR has to get about 9 ypc. SB Still, Chris Brown is better than Marvin Harrison under that calculation (more total yards). Which I don't buy. I still like a rb, largely b/c I think Berrian and Gage are both promising, while Wade is a good role player. (And Mush is just damn good.) At rb, you have Jones and a black hole. Jones was picked up partially b/c he fit a Terry Shea offense (quick runner, good receiver) -- Turner's offense will be a little different, and it'd be nice to pick up a different type of runner (especially one who's already accomplished so much) to balance the running attack. One thing a power running back does for you -- he's better even without the aerial attack. Look at how important Jamal Lewis has been for Baltimore, despite the chasm at wr they've had.
  11. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) Jackie, And our 2nd rb touched the ball 3x more than Wade. SB Okay. But if Marvin Harrison gets 90 touches and Chris Brown gets 220 touches, you're telling me that Chris Brown is therefore 250% more important than Marvin Harrison? Not buying it.
  12. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) Not a large sample, and you can argue that M Williams is better, but not that many throws to the same target in any game, outside of RB. Okay, but still, Wade (our #2 receiver...I guess...) caught a pass in every game. So it's at least exaggerating to suggest that he may often not get a pass thrown to him, no? (Especially with the attention focused hard on Mush, as it will be.) Edit: And hey, I want a rb too. But I'm trying to be fair about this, and I'm open to wr arguments.
  13. Rbs take a pounding, though. It all depends on how much faith one has that Adrian Peterson (OUR Adrian Peterson) can carry the load.
  14. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) Back up running back will probably get minimum 10 touches a game, where as 2nd reciever may not even have 1 ball thrown his way. I agree with most of what you said, but on this, huh? Sure you could get a freak game where not one pass would go to the #2 receiver, but on average he'll get more than a couple balls per game. And just about every game he'll have one pass his way.
  15. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 02:02 AM) As I was trying to explain I don't think Benson will be bad I would just prefer to go another route. Yeah, I disagree, but it's very close. But I'll be crying with you (or puking) if the Bears take Gore in the 2nd round.
  16. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) My thing is you can get Moose and MW on the field together a helluva lot more than you can Benson and TJ I think Benson would be a great pick, but if the Bears pick a wr, I'll trust them on that (whichever wr). I admit, that's a tough choice. I was just responding to the 'anyone but Benson' posts. A case could be made for any one of the 3 big rbs, certainly, but noone can convince me that Benson would be a flat out mistake.
  17. I wouldn't say 4.53 is not "nearly as fast" as 4.43. Still, I agree, Benson is no darting rb. But the guy is a bruiser and he has a ton of production to show for himself (which also shows he's been durable). He gives you a different style than Jones, which gives the Bears insurance in case Jones just doesn't fit a Ron Turner offense as well as a Terry Shea offense (a real possibility -- not to mention the possibility that Jones returns to form). And 'not as fast' does not mean 'not fast' -- just like Jamal Lewis isn't as fast as Brian Westbrook, but he still gets some awful big gallups. I've seen enough of Trung Canidate, I want power in a rb too, and Benson's got both sides of the coin.
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) My wish becomes shattered as each hour passes, but that doesn't mean I can't hope for it to still happen: Derrick Johnson, LB, Texas. I've heard a con that has scared me from just about every player that has been discussed (the majority of the time) for the Bears fourth pick. And I can't shake the Ray Lewis comparisons out of my mind. For a second, dream of a LB core of Briggs-Urlacher-Johnson. Now, go back to dreams of whoever you want. I was waiting for that Derrick Johnson vote. I didn't even need to scroll to the bottom of the page to see if you were in the thread. I'm the Benson pick, so I ain't doing too good myself.
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) Who want to take: Mike Williams Who I think we will take and will dislike horribly: Benson So is there a Mike Williams vote coming any time soon? Edit: Okay, one shows up now.
  20. At least until recently, there seemed to be at least one scenario under which any given player would last until the 4th pick. Since there seems to be quite diverse opinions here, I wanted to get a sense of which player you'd most like to see on the Bears, whether or not you believe it's realistic that he falls to us. You read every article on the combine and you know these guys' 40 times to the hundredth of a second. You know about the character questions arising from that ill-advised frat party in '02. And you even know who attended the workouts and who was throwing the ball to them. So who's it gonna be? I wanted to get Alex Barron and Pac Man on the list, but they were the odd men out. If you pick other, post your choice! Finally, it should be obvious, but just in case -- Bears fans only!!!
  21. As mean as middle schoolers can be in general, middle schoolers in an orphanage (not sure what the pc word is) are much worse. (I've heard -- from someone who went through it.) It's not a good environment for a kid, the law is just dumb.
  22. The starting pitching has been amazing. It would be nice to see the walks cut down though (that means you, Jose).
  23. Could you start a new thread then? I think this is actually a pretty interesting thread on its own merits, while this f'n media bias discussion is just tired. Make a thread, have at it, don't ruin a discussion on something THIS important.
  24. QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) I saw that. Pretty cool. If you click on pope, they've already updated that as well. Yeah, but they haven't updated Arinze's page yet. He still "is widely considered to be a possible successor to the papacy". Stop teasing the poor guy, geez.
