  1. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Steff, I am sure Ozzie is not told exactly everything that happened. I am sure the reporter was trying to start s*** and he said something that ticked Ozzie off. Being selfish will always tick Ozzie off. If the reporter explained to Ozzie the way it was written and explained to us, then I can see why Ozzie would get upset. I also can't see why Frank can't just say it is not his decision to make. That he will play when and wherever he is asked to. I know you love Frank. I love Frank too. I jst think they are both wrong for what they said and I think both situations are being blown out of proportion bythe press. I understand your point of view, but I think both are at fault here. No one is more at fault than the other. Wouldn't you agree? The article states that he wasn't replying to any question, it was "unprompted". Ozzie is full of s***. He talks ENDLESSLY about how everyone's attitude sucks but his. He's like a girl in junior high who calls every other girl a b****. There's no reason, NONE, to call out Frank like this. If he wants to work him up, do it in private (one thing that Manuel deserved a lot of credit for). Ozzie talks all this bs about how he's accountable, but then he throws responsibility onto someone else. Why'd we lose last year? Bad attitude, Carlos Lee. Why didn't we respond to the Hunter-Burke collision? (In the postgame, Ozzie said HE would decide whether or not he wanted to respond.) Carlos Lee's fault, he didn't slide. Sanctimonious crap. "When stuff's not going good, guys start pointing fingers." When stuff is going good, it takes Ozzie to do that.
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) You took the words right out of my mouth Mike.. Apparently Ozzie wasn't listening when I tore Kenny a new a-hole about this s***. It makes me so sad that Ozzie is so selfish that he needs to make headlines about himself.. my opinion.. HE is the problem and the team doesn't need this distraction and HE should be relieved of his duties.
  3. ^^^^^ that What planet has Ozzie been living on? "Because he was their leader." Every single fan of the Sox has known from the get-go that Frank Thomas was NOT a leader of the Sox. "The attitude was horrible. Now that the attitude is good, we might finish in last place, but we'll finish in last place with a good team." Uh, no. If you finish in last place, your team sucks. Period.
  4. Most sites that I've seen have them taking a d lineman here, so I took Travis Johnson here, who seems to be the best d lineman available. Demarcus Ware another possibility? (If he actually lasts to this point.)
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) I was at the game, Harris had a real good jump -- or so it seemed to me. IMHO he looked like he got under the tag, but it was a bang-bang play. Did they show a replay on TV? Was he safe or out? I don't know, I haven't seen it. Noone's claimed he got a bad jump, or that Olivo got off a bad throw. We've all seen Olivo's arm, but that doesn't matter I gather. If only Harris wants to steal the base, it should always be possible. :banghead
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) Jackie -- tell me that I'm coming home seeing the loss blamed on Harris? Well, noone will come out and say it as clearly as that, but judge the comments yourself...
  7. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) Olivo has a gun and it may not have even been a bad jump by Willie today, but that doesn't change the fact that Willie is a poor base-stealer. So basically your comment had squat to do with this game, even though you were referring to the game?
  8. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) Come on, man. It has been common knowledge that Willie has a ton of speed but he's a bad base-stealer. Keep trying to deny it if you want. Ah. So you're blaming this on Ozzie, I guess, saying that he should never put Willie in as a pinch runner and allow him to steal? I mean, if it was so obvious, certainly Ozzie should have seen that.
  9. So if I'm understanding this right, Willie is supposed to have the ability to steal bases at will. So even 1 caught stealing means he sucks. Does the same logic apply to Pods?
  10. We're also dead last in walks (as Keith pointed out a couple days ago -- it hasn't changed). Not so smart. And while we're 4th in steals, we're also 4th worst in caught stealing. It's not a big deal, it's only 11 games. But it's hard to argue on the basis of steals, sf, and sh that we're playing the strategy very well. (Nevermind if it's a sound strategy to begin with...) I loathe the word "smartball". How meaningless can a term be -- hey fans, we're not going to be morons!
  11. Most of the speculation around the Jets agrees that they're looking for secondary help, probably a cb, so I went w/ Washington. Although between Justin Miller and Washington it's just a tossup.
  12. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) huh Just what the thread title made me think of. Nevermind...
  13. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) I read more negative stuff in the threads about our players than i would ever read in the Cubune. Everyone's a critic. Crede sucks, Garland sucks, Willie sucks, Timo sucks, this guy sounded bad in an interview. Paulie's a jerk Shingo sucks. You're all like a bunch of whiny lil b****es. Nothing's ever good enough for ya. I'm ecstatic . The Sox are winning and pitching great. The glass is half full not half empty. Try to remember that next time. Well I'm not taking that -- now YOU suck. How d'ya like them apples?
  14. These Michael Vick threads are getting old in a hurry.
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) It was white smoke. Details, details... Like I ever read the paper before Sunday, anyhow. B)
  16. It's not that the owners fail to honor the contract -- the contract makes clear that the team can terminate the deal. It's not honoring a contract by doing something that the contract says it can do? The owners can cut the player, the player can hold out, it's just a game. Neither side needs to be right or wrong.
  17. Congrats, how did I miss the blue smoke?
  18. We might commit Hernandez, but I don't see how we could commit to him. No matter what you think of the guy, he's on his last legs. He's in Satchel Paige territory. Contreras, we still don't know what we have there. We don't have a glut of young starters coming through the system, at least we haven't. (I know, last year's draft is promising, but still...) I'd really like to keep Jon, as long as he doesn't regress further. I'm scared of that black hole 5th starter happening again. Edit: Okay, exaggeration on the Satchel Paige bit. Well, I think...
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) I personally wouldn't mind if the Sox locked Jon up on a three year contract. Average pitchers are making five to eight million a year, and up till now, Jon's been a league average pitcher. I realize he isn't awesome, but if you could lock him up for three years for at about ten million (not per year -- total, obviously), I'd probably do it. That, or if he has a huge season this year, sell him high to a team that wants pitching and is willing to give up a whole lot... He wouldn't sign that. He's making the average of that in 2005, and he'll do better next year if he's merely league average again.
  20. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) I don't. I think it's bulls***. No announcer, fan, or writer has EVER caused a pitcher to lose a no-hitter. This is black cat, scary goat, hocus-pocus curse bulls*** that has no basis in reality. And I'm glad to see that Jon and Mark were bulls***ting about it on the bench. Like the ad campaign says, there's only ONE stat that matters. W Geez, calm down. It's like a rally cap in Little League. Of course noone really believes it matters, but it's fun to believe it a little. It's something that everyone does watching a game, something you grow up with. (Anditwasallthosepeoplesfault!....) So no jinxing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) The part that makes me consider this a non-issue is where Ozzie says "I told Willie...." - this means Oz was re-telling a joke that he told TO Willie! This sounds like the typical joking around and s***-talking that goes on all the time on any team at any level, from MLB to beer-league softball. It's nothing. I think that's right. It's a poor choice letting that be quoted, when everyone knows you actually don't have confidence in Willie, knowing that the context can't be reported. Ozzie needs a personal pr department.
  22. The article calls Ozzie a "jokester" -- I guess I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I see something more, but he definitely sounds like an ass. And why? Willie's done everything asked of him so far this season. Maybe Oz's just redirecting his anger from the Venezuelan who stole all his rightful talent -- Luis Sojo.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan56789 @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 05:26 AM) probably a stupid question but who is the steelers guy in the BANG cartoon? Isn't that Cowher?
  24. And if you want to change "Michael Vick" to "Ron Mexico", noone's gonna stop you.
  25. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 03:38 AM) Who did that?? ....and that?? DJ???? It's still there, look it up. Doesn't anyone still hold THIS ritual sacred in the Church of Baseball?
