  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) My comment is Jerry has shown through the years that sentimental gestures like wanting Frank to finish his career in a Sox uniform isn't his style. I certainly do not buy the conspiracy theory that signing Giambi to a minor league team is linked in any way to Frank. Maybe tossing a bone to Giambi's agent, but that is about it. Jerry does not allow sentiment to get in the way of winning and money. And as far as it only being 3, name 3 bigger superstars on JRs payroll? Going smaller, Sandy Alomar wanted to play one more year, he's in Texas. He has been praised and mentioned as a possible Manager someday. There's no crying in White Sox baseball . . . No, I meant Jordan ended his career in a Chicago jersey twice (not that it's 3 people). Enough is enough. He wanted too big of a role, and it was the right decision to not give it to him. He certainly didn't help Washington much. Jordan's the best ever, but you don't sacrifice your whole team for nostalgia. And Fisk was my favorite player when I was young, but it really was time to go. Everyone could see that but him. Frank is still playing at a very high level, and all he wants to do is play. I don't think this is implausible. And YASNY, yeah, I forgot about ending the baseball career. Though I could quibble about it being Chicago or Birmingham, but whatever.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) We know how much Jerry values a superstar finishing in a Chicago jersey ...3 times. And Fisk did end his career in a Sox jersey, just not on his terms.
  3. In ss2k5's thread about 'American Idol' producers trying to change a gay porn idol mimic show, YASNY's response: They don't get much better than that.
  4. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) I posted every yr of his career. See above. 99-01 R 284/340/465/805 02-04 R 263/323/440/763 #4 hitter w a career avg of about 780OPS on the road. Better than avg but not worth the 45M/5 yr deal he's likely to get elsewhere. I know, after my comment posted I saw the whole discussion you had w/ Jason. I don't think I took that long to post, I don't know how I missed that.
  5. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) Please explain to me why after 6 yrs I should suddenly believe Koney is going to become a road warrior? Oh exalted one, great poobah, your intellectual inferior meekly seeks your wisdom: PK apparently did not suck it up on the road some years. Maybe you missed these while visiting the home planet? 2000 .305/.367/.500 2001 .266/.333/.461 2002 .318/.374/.516
  6. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 06:13 AM) http://www.thebaseballcube.com/draft/1999_13_1.shtml Here is an excellent bio on pujols it explains everything. http://www.jockbio.com/Bios/Pujols/Pujols_bio.html Oh I believed you (at least after checking b-r, ). Just wondering why he was eligible for the draft. I didn't know his family had moved to NY. Thanks for the info, interesting.
  7. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 06:38 AM) BTW, nice team Aboz. If I were you, I'd try to unload Jason Kendall for another damn good starting pitcher (as you already have AJ). Jason will give you batting average and runs, but not much else. Maybe 15 SB if he's lucky. He's damn good, don't get me wrong, but he is waaay overvalued. You could get something nice in return. Only thing is that Kendall has taken a lot of swings for years. I don't know how the A's are planning on using him, but you may worry about replacing him with someone who plays sporadically. Though I agree you may not lose anything with AJ, so I see your point. Aka, Hey, I have Kendall...
  8. I don't know either one, but anyone who reminds you of Dalton doesn't sound very good.
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) Albert pujols three picks later. That kills me. You learn something new every day. How was he drafted, when he's from DR? I don't know anything about his bio. I was surprised that he'd been drafted, so I checked at baseball-reference. Where they have the stat comparison at the bottom, most similar hitters by age; #1, Joe DiMaggio. Nice company. He is really unbelievable.
  10. At least he finally retired somebody. He's got to be -- what's the word I'm looking for? oh wait -- relieved... Almost like deja vu, isn't it?
  11. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) hope not. top pitcher on my fantasy team... Me too -- and we just drafted last night! :banghead
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 04:01 AM) Ok. Mid - season though, if Contreras is struggling it'll be hard to dump that $6 million on somebody if that's what KW decides to do, without paying some of the contract this season and next. Yeah, I agree. I don't think Jose is going anywhere, unless he REALLY goes down in flames. It's just too much $ to swallow.
  13. QUOTE(munchman33 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) Well, based on the fact that Contreras has never had a losing season, I'd say your pessimism is more trolling than anything. Please, no lame ass "troll" comments for a reasonable, fair opinion. If you disagree, state your case and be out, don't descend into this garbage. Especially for a MOD! Sorry, I just HATE "troll" accusations.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 02:25 AM) With David Bell injuring his back, it looks like they'll hold onto Polanco for a while. Okay, I wasn't really saying they'd trade Polanco, now or later. Just saying that I think TLAK was referring to another team. I don't think Wood's got triceps tendinitis, anyway, isn't it something around his rotator cuff? Shoulder, anyway?
  15. Uh, guys... He was talking about the Phils, I'm pretty sure. Padilla just got hurt, and they'll have Polanco on the bench. The Cubs have some pretty good infielders, but Neifi Perez is not what I'd call "depth". (Okay, Hairston, I guess. I just wanted to take that shot.)
  16. QUOTE(chisoxfan14 @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) WOOHOOO!! WILLIE GOT A TRIPLE!!!!!!! WOOOOO!!!!!! Never change, 14.
  17. I'll be there (I hope -- a little absent minded this weekend). But if you wanted to postpone it, if that's even possible now, that'd be fine with me.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) Bulls***. Everyone is ripping McGwire, Bonds, Giambi, and others for using or allegedly using steroids but now we have someone on our team and steroids is suddenly not a big deal. Give me a break. This is bulls***. Sure, Jeremy Giambi hasn't done s*** in his career but he still used steroids. Cut his ass. I haven't heard anyone say it's "not a big deal". Only that it's not right to blacklist someone from the majors. As long as he's done with it, I'm okay with the signing. And if the minor league testing applies, I'm not too concerned. Btw, why does the fact that he "hasn't done s*** in his career" matter? It would be okay if he were better?
  19. QUOTE(black jack @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) he needs to learn at least one more pitch. until he has four very strong pitches he should be in minors. I hope he starts in the minors, but I can't agree with this reasoning. Why does the number of pitches matter? Lots of pitchers do well with 3 (good) pitches.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) Meh, whatever, leave me alone. Just checkin'.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 11:12 PM) before we start throwing him under the bridge Sure you don't mean under the wheels, or under the bus, or...?
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 4, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Results Knight -- 6 TMar -- 7 Willie -- 11 Jakie -- 14 Ahem... Still waiting for the , maybe you're still or . Or crying in your . That's okay, I know -- deep down -- y'all my prognosticatin'.
  23. He struck out a LOT in A ball. He needs a lot more time in the minors to adjust to baseball full time. And the comparison to Robin is silly. No matter how quickly he adjusts, Fields is going to be a much different player.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 04:33 AM) You both do realize that Jeremy Giambi admitted to using steroids right? I don't want that juiced up piece of s*** anywhere near my White Sox. The Sox are widely considered possibly the cleanest team in Baseball steroid wise, let's not f*** that up, alright. Yeah, I did know that, I just don't agree that these players should be blacklisted. (The Sox are considered more clean, but other teams are clearly interested in maintaining/cleaning up their image -- consider the Mets and Sammy -- so presumably all teams would avoid former users.) I don't think Giambi is in any position to 'poison' the clubhouse. The question should be, how good of a player can he be without the steroids? Giambi's key skill is a good eye at the plate, which (I think) will survive without juice, so I think it's a good signing. Of course the Sox (and I mean by that the players too) should insist on zero tolerance. But if he's willing to accept that, welcome aboard. Jmho. I'm not sure, is Giambi subject to minor league testing? He won't be on the 40-man roster, but he is in the MLBPA. Not sure how that works. Btw, y'all, don't forget the high-flying Sox career of Marvin Benard.
  25. Great signing imo. Minor league contract, so there's almost no risk. And even when he hit the Mendoza line, he still had a .350 obp. When healthy, he's been a very valuable bat (a lh one too). Now if he can just get those steals numbers up...
