  1. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) If Lyons were a more notable analyst this never would have happened. Fox probably has been looking for an excuse to remove him. Hell, considering how much time has elapsed since the initial comments, not ONE article had been written about the remarks. I doubt many were legitimately offended. Keith Hernandez, for example, was torn apart only hours after he criticized a woman's role in baseball. Another possibility is that Piniella was pissed at the comments and Fox decided they'd rather burn their bridges with Lyons than with Piniella. Pure speculation, of course.
  2. QUOTE(SoxPhan7 @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) OK, i didnt see the game yesterday but I have read the article three times and I still dont understand what was so offensive about what Psycho said. Could someone please explain it for me? It's the wallet comment, confirmed by the 'don't want to sit too close bit'. Implying Spanish speakers are thieves. I guess I watched the wrong two games. I hate it when I miss the fireworks.
  3. The A's have given up. Some highlights: Eric Chavez: Milton Bradley: The A's are lucky they're a small market team, otherwise they'd have a lot of people pissed at them.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Appearantly you havn't seen SportsCenter recently the nice men on the broadcast correctly pointed out that Alex Rodriguez is a bad player, teammate and person in general. I heard that he's never actually gotten a hit in the postseason unlike Jeter who is the Michael Jordan of baseball. On baseball tonight they had an investigative report about how Alex Rodriguez in his first year with the Yankees would actually give poisoned milk to school children, true story. I must have missed that last part. Did they say, was it before or after he molested them?
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) CNBC pretty much slam dunked this bunk last night by pointing out that those who took the survey, instead of going off actual confirmed deaths, used statistical sampling. I other words they took the most violent parts of the country and extrapolated it throughout the whole. That's not even remotely close to what "statistical sampling" means, but hey, go for it...
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) Financially it doesn't add a whole lot and we now have Uribe and Pods to deal (which once they are moved for some cheap pieces, we are talking about a financial wash). Or maybe, in Pods' case, to nontender. He's going to make $3 mil or so -- who's going to give us anything for that? QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) So you are going to try and convince me that a gold glove caliber defensive player who is coming off 2 years where he was very solid(with the exception of May and August in 2005) and just also happens to be a World Series hero, along with a solid starting pitcher and a solid pitching prospect is worth less than a player who has been destroyed by the media in New York, has been horrible in clutch situations, and has been bad defensively at 3B? I'm not gonna buy that, and neither would Cashman. He would take Crede, Garcia, and Broadway in a second and run back to New York laughing his ass off. This is sort of a wording game, here. One could easily flip it and say, "So you are going to try and convince me that a 3b with zero plate patience coming off his first decent year with the bat, unsigned and with a back condition that his team has publicly worried about, and a pitcher whose fastball just disappeared, plus some unproven, are worth more than one of the game's greatest hitters, a two-time MVP who in his worst year still demolished the production of the guy who may or may not finish next season on the field?" The truth is somewhere in between, I'm just saying, for all the struggles of this year, he's still frickin ARod. The big issue is the payroll pinch, but remember that if we want to keep Crede long-term, we're looking at an outlay of $10-12 mil per. With Boras as his rep, who's gonna bet the bottom of that range? If he walks, we get squat. We're talking about adding an all-time great for 4 (? -- I think) years at $4 mil over that (maybe the Yankees throw in $1 mil per for a good package, but no more). I just can't help but get excited over the thought of that.
  7. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) People wouldn't give up Brandon McCarthy for A-Rod? Wow. This guy better turn out so good that they change the Cy Young Award into the Brandon McCarthy Award. JMO, just another example of people way overrating Brandon McCarthy beyond belief. It's not that McCarthy is a better player than ARod. Besides helping the Yankees, there's just an issue of feasibility. Trade McCarthy for ARod, you add $16 mil. More realistically, throw in Crede, you add $10 mil (let's say). And we still haven't signed any bullpen help or a lf. We all know there's a limit somewhere not too far above this year's number. It gets awfully tough to slip under that line if we lose McCarthy.
  8. QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) i heard on one of the espn podcasts that some mlb officials were thinking that he would make somewhere between 16-18 per year... they brought up a good point...i guess one GM was quoted saying "why would i trade a bunch of young pitchign for arod at 16 million, when i can sign soriano for near the same, or 1 million more, without having to give up the pitching. And you know sorianos head is screwed on right, arods may not be" What?!!!!!!! ARod moved to 3b when he was certainly a better defender than the guy the Yanks had. Soriano whines everywhere about not playing 2b, where he's not nearly as good, and almost sat out the season because of that same petulance. What a f'n gamer. Not to mention that he's not even close to the hitter ARod is and has had exactly 1 year close to this. Lol.
  9. So this basically means he just got some, right? That sux.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 01:45 AM) Me and my pessimistic mindset. However, we have more pitching to offer than anybody and could afford that kind of move. I just don't want to think about it and get all excited, to be perfectly honest. lol. But not much young pitching. Which the Angels do have. I'm sure we'll be involved, but I have a hard time seeing us getting Rodriguez. I'd be SO damn happy to be wrong, though. KENNY, MAKE ME WRONG!!!!! QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 02:12 AM) I don't want to sound callous here, but the Yankees could use a SP now. Garcia or (gulp) Buehrle would fit there I bet. With that rf porch, do they focus on Buehrle or figure that Zito + Unit is enough of that whole business?
  11. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) ***sigh*** Yeah, I thought that might draw a response from you.
  12. I think even the 70s were a huge disappointment. Revolution had a nice little slap at everyone. For my money, he didn't have much to say after that -- as much as he tried. Doesn't matter, though. Noone's been better than the Beatles yet.
  13. Btw, try EPRDAY for the coupon. Works (for now anyway) for free basic shipping. Thanks, Felix. In for one, rep.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) Crede is one of the best 3rd basemen in all of baseball. I used to think he was worthless, but he changed my mind. As long as his back isn't a hinderence, trading him is counterproductive. If anyone is overrated on this board, it is one Josh Fields. He had a breakout year in which he hit 19 homers in Charlotte. Now everyone thinks he'll hit over 20 in the big leagues. He's a strikeout machine. I will admit, he will take a walk which I like, but I just don't think of this guy as all that great of a prospect. Trade him while someone still does KW> One of the best = what? Top 3? Top 5? Top 10?
  15. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) Of all of those, I'd take Nady...just for potential. But he's on the weakest team, so he seems to be the least likely to actually be made available.
  16. Only thing is that this year he was flashy for a little while. He'll look for a starting job, but I wouldn't mind him in a platoon if he can't find that. And the versatility is nice. I don't know anything about his defense. Some other outfield names that may be available that hit lhp very well -- Kevin Mench, Xavier Nady, Moises Alou. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) You underrate Crede a ton for being your favorite player. His bat this year is better than most of the guys you mentioned, and his glove is top 3 in the league hands down. He is one of the top 3B in the entire MLB. He's my favorite because he can make those plays. It was sad watching after Robin left. But I don't see that Joe had a better year hitting than half of those players. If anything, I'd add Glaus and Sanchez as having better years with the bat. He was better than Chavez, probably contributed more than Teahen and Chipper, but that's about it.
  18. I wouldn't scare people off the Sox Pride thing. I joined just to get the online radio, and it's $5 cheaper than the usual subscription, so, at least for this year, I think it was worth it. That's saying nothing about the tix, I never used that.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) SS71 is right. I apoligize in advanced to those I am offending, but to me, its the truth. The people that dont, or didnt watch this team on a regular basis now, and in 2005 really cant speak with much valididty to the subject. There are MANY that were able to see a few games here and there, and when the playoffs came on, all they saw we highlights of Rowand making diving grabs, and how he was a "Grinder" I know many can't watch every game, and I understand that 100%. But with that, dont make claims like you understand everything that is going on, because that just can't be true without seeing these guys play with own eyes. Presumably, you mean that in seeing the games you learn more. Fine, but use what you learned as the argument, not just the fact that you watched it. That just isn't relevant for anything. All due respect, Tony, you do know what you're talking about, but I've known people who listened to games on the radio for most of their lives who could talk about their team equally capably.
  20. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) Not many. Very few. In fact, who is? A-Rod sure, but Crede has him in defense? Chavez, but Crede has him with the bat. Dealing Crede would be a horrible move unless we got like a blow-away offer And David Wright doesn't have his winning smile. Crede's my favorite Sox player, and he's a very good player, but let's not get carried away. Unless Chavez's forearm problem lingers for years, his bat is better than Crede's. Even if some of the power just leaks away (which I don't see), he's a big on-base guy. And ARod is one of the best players of this era. Crede is not that calibre player, nor very close. Rodriguez, Chavez, Atkins, Wright, Zimmerman, Teahen, Cabrera, Ramirez, Rolen (when healthy), and Chipper (ditto) are all at least as valuable as Crede. I don't want to see him traded, I hope a deal can be worked out, but if it doesn't happen and we get a good package of young players in return (hopefully, and, I think, realistically, 2) -- we can still produce a WS-capable team.
  21. "9 - Every Breath You Take - The Police" Wtf? Maybe...YMCA...The Chicken Dance...Lick My Love Pump... One of those.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) Terrible move. But even a worse move for him if he goes to the cubs. Really? If I'm him, I take a team with a large payroll and Zambrano, Hill, Lee, and (maybe) Ramirez over the Nats or the San Fran AARP. But I do hope you're right.
  23. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) So depth means question marks? Kenny did a wonderful job in 2005, but even he will tell you they lucked out in alot of spots, bullpen included. They are now in a position where they dont need much, yet have some pieces to get some quality players. What they do need is BP help, and Williams will get a few impact arms. Proven>Unproven. Imo, almost anyone in any bullpen is a pretty big question mark. Rivera, Ryan, Wagner seem to be exceptions, but even Lidge, who I would have put in that company before 2006, had a terrible year. That means a lot of risk if you're relying heavily on one or two guys. I mean, if you have money to fill your pen with stars, go for it. I just don't know that we're in that position.
