  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 06:50 PM) I like seeing the unity from a group of guys who has been thrown together in the last 13 months. I think Jose Abreu was the broke model the young players needed
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 04:28 PM) 2018 should be the year of letting the kids play. Why not see what they can do? Why saddle yourself with an aging free agent and a big payroll when only 15-20k come out to games at times? I tend to agree. Rebuilding or not I think any free agent signing should be with an eye for making us competitive. The trap we could easily fall into is to abandon the plan and and go for it now. Don’t waste t money on filling in with a free agent who is just here for a year. In addition just who do we really need
  3. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 01:31 PM) I recall Reinsdorf used to have the unwritten policy that if you went to arbitration you were on your way out of town. In my mind, not a good sign for Avi and Sanchez’s long term prospects. That’s probably just another “we hate Jerry Reinsdorf “ rumors.
  4. Do you think maybe Jose is a great team player and wants to be with the Sox? $13M is a lot of money and building a winning ball club includes a player like Abreu. I have to believe an extension is very possible because the the Sox want to keep him too
  5. Are the Padres a new farm club for the Sox?just asking for a friend
  6. When a successful reliever has a bad year then you must believe he can be coached back to being the closer he was, or he is washed up. Let’s hope Soria can be helped by Mr Cooper
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 6, 2018 -> 07:19 PM) I don't think its humorous. I think it's smart. At least in 2018. If that is still going on in 2019, than it's safe to say they are behind schedule on this rebuild. At some point in time you take the talent you have to build a competitive team. This signing players to flip them is a waste of money and time. The idea is to build a competitive organization not continually trade or sign players to be traded. Plus you never know what the return will be anyway or if a free agent will sign up with the Sox knowing the team will most likely trade them mid-season
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 09:57 PM) Shingo II I remember watching Shingo close out a game in Denver back in 2005. Slow, slower and slowerrrrrrrr lol. He had a Rockies batter so off balance that he swung wildly and missed and the bat went flying. Had some success but it didn’t last long
  9. I find it humorous that every trade or potential free agent signing has now become a “flip” scenario
  10. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 01:40 AM) Don't care for the trade either way. No cost except money which the sox have plenty available due to the low payroll but also no real gain. Yeah you could say they need relievers but honestly they are already projected to be a last place team next year, so why not lose 95+ and get another top3 pick (which might happen anyway fangraphs actually projects them as the worst team of the majors) Ole Coop will fix em
  11. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 09:49 PM) Jon Heyman‏Verified account @JonHeyman 29s29 seconds ago More after taking 2017 off, jake peavy is trying for a comeback in 2018. wouldn't bet against him. Jake might be an interesting and relatively cheap option for us to look at to fill the veteran pitching role and help the young pitchers develop. He is a competitor. One year contract
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) I can safely say I don't regret this statement at all. LOL I have to admit uhh was condusedvwith the original post until I noticed the 2016 date. I believe I was on the Avi Garcia bandwagon back then and am very happy we kept Avi
  13. I sure can understand where you are coming from, but if we keep trading our best players especially team leaders like Abreu we find ourselves in perpetual rebuilding. I do agree with extending him and Avi Garcia. The concerns about injuries and such are just part of the game
  14. We better be competitive in two years. If we are Jose Abreu is the offensive force to lead the young talent to a championship
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 11:06 PM) How can you read replies and not see Greg is the biggest advocate of that here? Even ElRockin as well. Thanks Ace! And I don't want to trade Avi or Jose. You need to blend the youth with our two vets
  16. Seems to be a good Minor league signing to add some OF depth. A bit of power and some speed. Not sure about fielding and his average is only around .260 or so
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 18, 2017 -> 12:11 AM) Of course he sees something. The guy throws hard. I'm just saying that working on his command will be a challenge from what cooper normally preaches. A hard thrower lacking command reminds me of the issues with Matt Thornton when acquired from Seattle. Hopefully Mr Cooper can get through to this hombre
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 10:13 PM) I am not sure anyone knows precisely what his market is. Most of the speculation has been that would not be the case unless the Marlins took on significant cash from Stanton's deal. Operating under the assumption that the Marlins will try and shed as much of that cash as possible, most folks seem to believe the return (in terms of players they receive back) will be fairly minimal. K With all due respect that is a pipedream
  19. In order for us to trade for Stanton would require us to part with several of the top notch prospects we have recently been acquiring
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 04:52 AM) Stupid. Here are my suggestions to fix baseball in the age of Millenials. a.) Speed up the game. A strike is called on any hitter who re-straps the velcro on his glove. One strike if you step out of the box more than once per at bat. Catcher allowed to visit the mound once every inning except for suspected injury to pitcher, then you can go more often. Two balls are called every time catcher goes out there after the first time in an inning. b.) Pitchers must deliver ball within a certain amount of time upon receiving it. Settle on the time; I don't care. Make it quick but reasonable. c.) Fire all umpires and re-hire only umps willing to call the old strike zone. Knees to letters. Very very boring/annoying to see belt high fastballs called balls. d.) Keep the divisions the way they are but return to a balanced schedule. It is f***ing horrible to see Sox play Detroit 19 times; Minnie 19; KC 19; Cleve 19. My god that sucks!!! That's about it. Do this and the game is fixed!!!! SAYS YOU!' ?
  21. Interesting for sure but a long shot on the division changes. I do think a two team expansion would be a good thing
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) My parents told me Santa Claus was real too. Fake news Thanks for ruining Christmas
