  1. The only way the Q situation heats up is if a team steps up and gives the Sox exactly what we want. I personally don't have a problem keeping Quintana as our ace
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) We are starting to talk ourselves into Q being overrated and not as valuable already. Crazy talk. This is the same thing I have said before. It amazes me how some people are so quick to undervalue and even denigrate our own players. In the case of Quintana, or our other main players, I can't figure out how someone thinks that in February his value suddenly declines? We don't have to trade Q period unless we get our asking price double period ?
  3. Our DH next year will be Morneau or Garcia. I can see us getting another OF'er, but one we can keep around and he might comes a prospect from a trade. Remember we are rebuilding so spending a lot of money on a one year deal makes little sense.
  4. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 26, 2016 -> 10:07 PM) Its worth taking a bit less of a price than TOTAL FLEECING and just dealing Quintana now to avoid being burned by the ever-present threats (even in the case of Mr Consistent himself) of ineffectiveness or injury. Could you imagine if Q busts his shoulder in May for a terrible Sox team and getting basically nothing in return for him? This isn't an argument to give him away, but it is an argument to be a little more flexible on the asking price. If you aren't actually making the argument to take LESS For Q then somehow I have missed the point of your post even after reading it about a dozen times. The Sox don't have to trade Q are all. We have him under team control for like four more years. If a team wants to win by acquiring an ALL-Star lefty pitcher then they will pay our price or we don't give Q up
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 06:04 PM) I don't know why a lot of people have written him off as a catcher. The Sox certainly haven't, and at the same stage, he can't be worse than Tyler Flowers was. Orton seems to know what he is doing. I am in agreement with you on this. The kid was drafted less than a year ago and already is getting hammered by armchair GM types. Give him some time we might have a dandy young catcher
  6. Bottom line when it comes to any potential trade for the Q: If a team isn't wiling to pay our asking price, which should be as much as what we asked for Sale, than we don't trade Q. Some question whether we can get such a big return and I say it all depends on how badly that trade partner wants to win in 2017. Q is a #1 starter on a lot of teams.
  7. I did not expect Shuck to be on the team in 2017. Saying that, I always admired his hustle. He gave it his all. Good luck JB.
  8. Abreu is a very good player. With our teams decision to rebuild I am waiting for the usual hate messages to be posted about him especially if the Sox keep him, which they should
  9. I would prefer we keep Quintana and build our staff around him
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:15 PM) Interesting to think of it in these terms. Jansen's $80 million deal turns into a $154 million deal with the next luxury cap penalties included. With the old 50% threshold it would have been $120. The Turner deal at $64 million turns into 123.2 million versus $96 million under the old CBA. These two contracts are costing the team an EXTRA $61.2 million in penalties that weren't there a month ago. That total is barely smaller than the White Sox all time biggest contract in franchise history. This is an example where money doesn't translate into a winner. Same with Yankees and a few others. I really have no problem in keeping Frazier. a good glove man hitting 40 homers a year and driving in 100 RBI's is a good guy to have around.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:21 PM) Our direction so far is to hope that we can get to the same point that we just were. All pitching, no hitting. That is a f***ing terrible direction. I am having some difficulty figuring out who takes the field in 2017 and how many pitchers we have on the roster. I guess more trades for position players are possible
  12. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:12 PM) To be fair, Eaton has never won a GG. Q has never finished higher than 10th (2016) in Cy Young contention and nobody has suggested trading them for second level minor league players. You are defeated before you even get started
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:05 PM) How many of those guys are around? He's averaged 4.2 fWAR the past 3 years, and it's been rising. He's signed for $38 million over the next 5 seasons. If other teams don't want to value that for what it's worth, the Sox can keep him and be fine with the best RF in town for $145 million less than Theo paid for his physical specimen who forgot how to hit homers 4 years ago, and forgot how to hit at all in 2016. Maybe these armchair GMs can enlighten us on how they evaluate talent. Reading these posts I am surprised we even fielded a team or could ever compete on the field let alone make trades
  14. What amazes me is this rumor gets going about us parting with a gold glove OFer who swings a good bat and a Cy Young candidate in the same trade with a return of second level minor league players and some think it's acceptable or even true
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) I would think the opposite. Jose would be less money for three years and then we would see what the FA market bears out. I am only looking at trade value today I don't think you understand why I posted that. Encarnacion is the most consistent and superior slugger on market. It also features Trumbo, Chris Carter Napoli and more. And EE is having trouble finding a deal he was already offered and rejected. They aren't as expensive on the market as teams thought, and so you aren't getting that much value with Abreu, who also isn't as good as EE. I wondered where you were going with that and I see your point now. I am just not sure I agree. I think Abreu is a good alternative to Encarnacion for team looking for hitters
  16. I think we could have gotten more for Sale but the return was decent. Moncada alone is not going to change the competiveness of this team in '17 so I would have to say that we must jump in fully with the obvious rebuilding. The decision has been made so let's go
  17. It Hasbro be their best for one of the best pitchers in the game
  18. If we don't trade Sale hen I am fine with it. We are taring to see prospects from our own system devel;op. You build around pitching-that is still the name of the game IMO. We get what we demnd for a player of Sale's ability or we don't trade. PERIOD END OF STORY
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 4, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) Buster OlneyVerified account ‏@Buster_ESPN Total speculation:If the Chris Sale asking price drops, BOS will have most significant combination of motivation/prospects to finish a deal. I love this. "TOTAL SPECULATION" What a scoop
  20. Add to relievers and not trade Robertson unless the deal us in our favor. Robertson looked good for the most part last year. I could see a core of Burdick, Jones, Jennings and Robertson minimum
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 01:19 AM) There's really not much to b**** about here unless you're looking for something to b**** about here. Clueless criticism of the Sox management does seem to be the only reason some post. Every move that is made (even to fill minor league needs) is met with snarky remarks. Thus week should be very interesting
  22. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 12:42 AM) Jon HeymanVerified account ‏@JonHeyman brett lawrie, chisox settle at $3.5M Link I think this is a solid move. Brett plays with intensity and leaves it all in the field. Saladino is our super sub and probably see Sanchez as IF backup in '17
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 10:13 PM) And for those who continue to post things like "Sale's value just went up again," I'd actually make the converse argument and say this only makes it more difficult to get a package back of top-end prospects. That may be YOUR argument but it makes little sense. Cespedes is one player going back to a team that wanted him and paid him big bucks. Sale's situation is not the same thing. A team doesn't have to pay $27 million bucks for Sale and if they trade for Sale the price tag is young players and not $27M in salary.
  24. Cespedes is not worth $27.5M a year and not many players are IMO. I for one am glad we aren't out there even thinking of throwing that kind of money around. Cesepdes wanted to stay with the Mets anyway
