4/7 White Sox at Oakland game thread
elrockinMT replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2016 Season in Review
I am waiting for the offense to snap out of the doldrums of the last two games and Abreu does it -
QUOTE (VAfan @ Apr 6, 2016 -> 03:20 PM) It just dawned on me, but after last night's game, I wonder if Matt Albers might not be the White Sox' second best relief pitcher. Last night, inning and a third of one hit ball. No walks. One K. Low stress stuff. Last year, his WHIP of 1.07 was the second best on the team, behind only Robertson (.93). His 1.21 ERA was by far the best of any Sox pitcher. Nate Jones was next at 3.32. In his 30 games last year over 37.1 innings, he gave up runs in only 4 appearances, and gave up more than 1 run only once, on July 31 against the Yankees (he gave up 3 in a 13-6 loss). Indeed, this was part of the only bad stretch he had on the season. He gave up runs in 3 appearances in a row from July 30-Aug 4. Otherwise, he appeared 27 times and gave up a run only once. His strike out to walk ratio of 3.11 is behind only Robertson and Nate Jones among our relievers. Overall, he was used more often in games the Sox were losing than winning or tied (19-9-2). But I really wonder if this is his best use. Hasn't he shown enough to this point to be considered for higher leverage opptys? I mean, wouldn't you trust him to give up zero runs in an inning he starts more than just about anyone else in our bullpen? I'm not suggesting he become our closer. But what about the 8th inning guy? KC uses a flamethrower in the 7th. Maybe that's a better inning for Nate Jones? Use Albers in the 8th? And let the rest of the guys pitch earlier or when we're behind, and prove they are worth higher leverage slots? Just an idea. The fact he has done well with the Sox is great for us. But, I think when a relief staff is formed the pitchers have specific roles. After two games it's hard to start changing them around

I see MLB Network has the Sox and A's on tonight at 9:05 PM CDT. I also believe we are being broadcast on ESPN2 tomorrow night. The first week of MLB Extra Innings is a freebie week if you get that programming.

How much would you pay to take Panda off of Boston's hands?
elrockinMT replied to TheFutureIsNear's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Based on his performance and the contract figures you just broke down I think you actually answered your own question -
Danks has shown he can be at least the #4 guy on the staff. Of course a $14M contract helps. Latos has a good history and being a veteran I am sure the Sox see good things happening. I like the club for this year. Good solid moves were made and we have some strong veteran presence.I admit I am still miffed about the Laroche deal but time to move on. Oh, and we should have kept AJ Perz and Gordon Beckham too

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 06:48 PM) another thought is with the 3 open 40 man spots, the Sox are looking to do some dumpster diving off of other teams cuts. Don't you just love the last few days before the opening game???!!!

By Andrew Simon / MLB.com | 2:08 PM ET + 0 COMMENTS Jimmy Rollins has made the Opening Day roster for the White Sox. Chicago purchased Rollins' contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, and he will be in the lineup at shortstop for Monday's season opener against the A's in Oakland. Rollins, entering his 17th season, signed a Minor League contract with the Sox in February, and he entered Wednesday batting .354 (17-for-48) this spring with four home runs and 13 RBIs. The Sox also made two other roster moves ahead of Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Reds, optioning right-hander Scott Carroll to Charlotte and outrighting righty Jacob Turner to the same affiliate. Those transactions leave Chicago with 29 players in Major League camp, including 13 pitchers. The club's 40-man roster remains at 37.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) Why not? EJ has no future here and Danks, Turner, and Latos are lottery tickets. I wouldn't mind bringing back Floyd just for depth. EJ has no future here? Are you talking about Eric Johnson? I beg to differ as I think there is a future with the Sox for the International League P:itcher of the Year for 2015. The kid just needs to mature and gain consistency. If nothing else he is trade bait in 2017 or 2018
