  1. my feeling is that regardless of fan interest we won't be trading for Car-Go as the it would cost too much in talent and dollars. We also probably won't see Cespedes at his reported asking price of $25M a year. Upton probably the same.
  2. 165 pages and still no Cespedes LOL. These remaining free agent OF'ers want way to much money
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 05:43 PM) Assuming that you still live in Montana, any Sox game not on MLBN, ESPN, TBS, FOX or FS1 will be blacked out. Exception would be when they are playing a team in your local market, which I am guessing is the Mariners. I was afraid of that. Might have to finally cave and get the MLB Extra Innings package
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 06:33 PM) According to MLBtradeumors, 10 teams have contacted the Marlins about him. 25 years old with 4 years of control. Rangers have discussed him with Chi Chi Gonzalez and one other player being involved. I was watching stat cast today on MLB Network, they mentioned that Ozuna was top 20 in the MLB in exit velocity, the only one in the top 20 who had a bad year. They mentioned bad luck and a lot of ground balls in the first half of the season. Danish and Engel enough to get him? All of this of course, is based on if we do not get one of Cespedes/Upton. Thoughts? new hitting coach Barry Bonds has been lobbying loud and hard for the Marlins to keep Ozuna. He thinks he can fix whatever is ailing him. I bet the Marlins listen to Bonds
  5. I have DirecTV and the sports package includes CSN Chicago. Will I get the Sox games on that channel or get blacked out?
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...-he-can-stay-ss Love his confidence, but I think he needs another year or two in the minors.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) So as I was thinking about random guys the Sox have had over the years and I thought about Jose Paniagua. Has their ever been a player in the history of the franchise (or even the game) to have such a negative opinion associated with him based upon such limited time (in his case, 1/3rd of an inning with an organization)? I mean, people on her still reference him as the worst player to wear a uniform (and he was signed to a minimum deal and only pitched 1/3rd an inning...by the way, deserving so...I will remember watching that game and just being astonished in disbelief (I could tell you where I was when I watched it and who I was with too). For those that might be too young to remember, below is an article talking a bit about his eventual release and what drove it: http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1613303 When the question was asked who was our worse player ever this is is the guy that came to my mind
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) That reason would be that he doesn't have much of a market. The big market teams aren't looking for an OF. His "hometown" team is lowballing him at $12AAV. The Sox should really swoop in and offer him 4 year/ $80M. That's nearly $30M over the Royals current offer. He makes this team so much better. Now hold on a minute. The Royals are lowballing him at $12M and an we should give him $20M? Gordon might be a fit with the Sox but not at that kind of a deal. How about $14M?
  9. The Sox aren't in a worse position with Laroche. Swisher has been hurt a lot and is declining. Laroche had a down year and still fields his position well. The chances for him rebounding are much better than the other two Atlanta must deal with. I am not saying we shouldn't be actively trying to move him, but if he stays with the Sox he can still be productive platooning at 1B and being the DH
  10. Looks to be a strikeout kind of pitcher judging by minor league stats, ERA under 3.00 but limited major league exposure and his age is 29.
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 01:43 AM) I'd like to see Laroche play more first. That's his one skill. I know Abreu doesn't like sitting, but he could use some rest, with those nobby injuries/aches and pains he gets now and then. This is a real conundrum. Laroche is a gold glove 1Bman. Abreu has gotten better and to his credit works on his defense. Abreu would benefit from more time at DH to keep his legs in shape, but his physical health may be better each year. I don't know for sure and not certain we have heard much about that issue to completely explain his ankle, foot or leg issues. As part of other moves I can see Laroche going back to a NL team and Cabrera being the DH. But, you have to have those new pieces ready to be put in place. But, on the other hand Laroche is not going to just roll over because of a bad year. He is committed to improve in 2016. It could be real good for the Sox. Dunn didn't give up it's just that he struck out as much as he hit the ball it seemed even when he hit 40 homers. I guess that scenario could be Laroche also and it's just what you are prepared to accept with those homers,
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) i hate to admit this, but i am one of those you mention. but for my defense, i see all these different org pickup many of these dfa players and i just wonder, at the state of the org, can this player help in the minors or if they are young, can they still have some development that can happen. just my thoughts on why i was thinking this way. And I certainly understand that position. And you might be right. My guess is Sands goes to the minors and maybe he suddenly finds it. Who knows? Most of those signings would be for depth in the minor league system. It does seem that guys like Sands did good in the minors and not so hot in the majors. I respect that folks may see that there still could be some upside to them, but I just don't think we should be penciling in a DFA kind of guy in a starting role to replace a guy like Garcia, who certainly has been identified by the organization as a starter and talent in bigs.
  13. Sands was not claimed to replace Avi Garcia. Sands may have some upside to him, but failed to hang on with the Dodgers or the Tribe. More a sub OF'er or minor league in the waiting. There is a lot of speculation on this board every time some player gets DFA or waived that we need to pick them up and insert them on our 25 man roster. Sands may not even be better than Shuck if you look at his record. Certainly Sands is not an upgrade with who we already have.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:46 PM) Rosenthal: De Aza’s contract guarantees him $5.75MM in 2016, Rosenthal now reports (Twitter link). He can also earn up to $1.25MM worth of incentives, for a max payday of $7MM next season. His contract is pending a physical. The Mets got themselves a pretty good player. Not sure I would pay $7M, but he can produce
  15. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:11 PM) I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and try and run with your theory because, well, nothing going on right now. How about the Sox trade Avi and Melky to the Mets, the Sox get Grandy for RF and sign Gordon for LF. Hows about we don't
  16. Gordon does make sense for the White Sox. Good outfield defense and a decent bat. He would play LF with Cabrera moving to DH, but that depends on whether Laroche stays with the Sox. I think there is less of a chance Garcia gets dealt because of his youth and talent. I see little chance of Upton or Cespedes coming here based only on the salary demand.
  17. QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) Can we please drop the "bring back Alexei" stuff? Unless Saladino is shipped off in a trade, the Sox are fine with him at SS next year. Alexei doesn't make or break the Sox chances at the playoffs next year. Signing him would be a fart in the wind. The Sox potential as a contender hinges on which Cabrera/LaRoche we see next year, whether Garcia finally puts it together, or replacing Cabrera/LaRoche/Garcia with one or more impact bats. Alexei Ramirez still makes sense as our SS. Saladino fits better as the super sub. Ramirez for two years and in that second year you may find a platoon or late season change with Tim Anderson. A platoon isn't a bad idea for 2017 and let Anderson learn from Ramirez.
  18. QUOTE (BigFinn @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 03:27 AM) A few years ago, Kenny was making significant trades and announcing free agent signings on Wednesdays. It was kind of a joke, it's Wednesday so Kenny must be up to something . . . . I have a feeling that this is more of a Kenny Williams win now move, rather than a Rick Hahn build through the system move. Not that trading for Frazier is a bad thing. I just thought it was interesting. What is the infatuation that some people have in degrading and dismissing Rick Hahn as the GM. It doesn't matter if KW had a hand in this, or any trade. I am sure Reinsdorf had to be involved too. Rick sets the table and then KW has to provide a lighter for the candles and Reinsdorf lights them. It's a team effort folks. That's how successful organizations run. That's how big business decisions get made. Give these people some credit
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) just because one team said they didnt want Laroche doesnt mean its completely over and he is untradeable forevs. teams swap bad contracts, sometimes players move on If we keep Laroche and he bounces back in 2016 then this contract won't look so bad. I do believe he still might be traded and probably back to the NL, but if not it still might work out for the Sox
  20. I like this move for the Sox. We acquired two big NL bats befre that didn't match up with the DH role. Dunn did finally start hitting some homers but other offensive categories slipped. Laroche may bounce back in 2016 but who knows. I think those guys just had a tough time adjusting to the DH role. Frazier will play the field where he is an adequate 3B glove. He should have an easier time making the transition to the AL. It was hard to see Thompson and Montas go, but Micah just wasn't going to fit in with this teams needs moving forward. I am not sure this team is done and might be trying to find a taker for Laroche and then get a third outfielder when they move Cabrera to DH. Plus I hope Alexei gets resigned
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) I think this increases the chances of Alexei coming back. I hope it does. In fact I think it will and judging by no news anywhere on Alexei other teams already have that figured out
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) I'm thinking the Freese scenario is most likely. Sign Freese and Cespedes, keep draft picks and prospects. Freese had a good World Series for the Cards. He hasn't lived up to expectations since.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:22 PM) i know, even thou this is not a finished deal, i am wondering what the dodgers are thinking. with that payroll, they have to commit to an upgrade of some sorts. now, and this is my pipe-dream, if cueto does goes with the giants, then maybe if the sox are so incline to made a trade. the market will be there for a big time rtn. just my thoughts. Maybe they realized that they can't just keep spending on over priced players, who don't seem to be able to perform to that high level consistently? These contratcs are going to come back and bite these clubs
  24. Contracts like this and some others we have seen will come back to haunt those teams
  25. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 12:31 AM) You can win the offseason but that doesn't guarantee you'll win the WS. I guess e found that out for sure last year as have other clubs. If folks are so enthralled with the Cubs moves I would just ask which Chicago team last won the pennant and World Series? But, if the Cubs win in 2016 more power to them. I think we will be right up there in the AL race
