  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) Yeah let's just ignore defense. If defense is the deciding factor it's not worth over $20M a year. This contract for Heyward is a massive overspend
  2. I am tired of the gloom and doom posts. The Cubs sign Heyward for a massively overpayment and all we hear is the Sox are going into the toilet and will be moving to another city. Ridiculous. I am glad we aren't pending the kind of money the Cubs are, or some other teams for that matter. We can do better in filling our needs then give all our money to one player. We did make some good moves for 2015 and I am certain we will make some good moves for 2016. The players slumped and can come back from that. Think negatively and it's always going to be bad. Let's be realistic here and act positively about the Sox and the team ownership.
  3. Amen! It is very nice of you to post such sentiments here. Go Soxtalk and Sox!
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 11:13 PM) i know. avi is as good as being sent to minors. TT is being offered in trades. melky if needed can move to DH so in essence they have 2 opening in the of and one at 3b. Avi Garcia is NOT going to the minors. He might be part of a trade, but not being sent down and I will bet your house on it
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) You know...I'm not going to lie...if you got the right offer, I wouldn't be opposed to selling "high" on Trayce. The key would be if you could package him as a key cog in a deal that got you another piece you really liked. I don't see how Trayce can be an everyday hitter and I love Trayce. I just don't see anything from his historical track-record which would indicate he'd be good enough offensively. That said, I fully agree that he's better than Avi. I love the idea of adding another outfielder, moving Avi, using Trayce / eaton and other outfielder plus Melky can DH / play a bit of outfield (and you have Shuck on the bench as well). what you say makes sense. In reality and depending on the return Tim Anderson and Jose Quintana and maybe even Sale will be available. I would like to have a Todd Frazier, but I am betting the asking price is two of those just mentioned. Too much
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) How bout getting semien back for a pitcher? Usually when they are gone we don't bring them back. However, what pitcher are you thinking of? I also have to question Semien's glove after his 35 or so errors at SS last year
  7. Has there been any info circulating about Alexei Ramirez? Either returning to the Sox or signing elsewhere? I see some comments about Saladino being our SS, but I am not sold on the idea or the actual truth to those comments. I cold see Ramirez back and Saladino as the sub at SS and at other positions. Ramirez and the Sox may benefit with him getting some rest
  8. My guess is we might get this trade done for Lawrie. But, we don't need to overpay with our good young talent, who can help our own team. It might be painful, but there were a lot of posters, who in the past dumped on KW for draining our farm system. We start to build it up again and I have seen some calling for it to be drained again. Maybe rather than Lawrie we look at Will Middlebrooks? There was a time we had our sights on him I believe. I am not calling for this deal, but just trying to point out that we have some options including internal.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) Thanks!
  10. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:46 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 29s30 seconds ago Virginia, USA Let me clarify from before: White Sox aren't trading Anderson or Quintana This is good news. I see an Adam Laroche as trade bait to a NL team and there might be interest, but the potential for a rebound in 2016 is there for sure. I think we can agree that the transition to DH by a NL slugger is not an easy one. I would have liked to have seen more Laroche at 1B and Abreu at DH. Laroche is a gold glove IBman, but I do think Abreu is less of a liability now. I can see Garcia and Melky Cabrera as trade possibilities as well as some relief pitchers.
  11. Willie Harris was a good player who gave it his all. Good move by the club.
  12. why take on an $18M contract? I don't know how we would have money left unless the idea is somehow the Sox trade both Danks and Laroche and their combined $28M contratcs? That is not going to happen IMO nor do I think the Price is our answer. We have more concerns than the DH spot
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 06:25 AM) The question is in the title. Why should they keep him? Why should they not? You know where I lean, but as an economist, that always garners an "it depends." I'm drunk and bored and want to light a fire. I like chaos. But seriously..why not? I've been away. Talk to me goose. Ypu need to quit drinking. I think it's bad for your head
  14. that's a lot of money for a 5 inning guy but it shows that experienced pitching is at a premium, which is why the Shark flop will get around $16 to $18M a year, but in all fairness Smard. can pitch innings for a team
  15. Not to push for this guy to be signed, but the Sox had an interest in Middlebrook before. Maybe Coop can fix em
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Back to Atlanta, Georgia to play for the Braves. 1 year/1.25 million. Let's start an appreciation thread! I for one liked Gordon Beckham. Hope he does well in the NL with the Braves. He struggled with the bat for sure but handled that glove at 2B and 3B real well. I was hoping he might stay with us as a super sub again, or be given the chance at 3B again Braves To Sign Gordon Beckham By Steve Adams | December 2, 2015 at 11:40am CST The Braves have agreed to a one-year contract with Gordon Beckham that will guarantee the longtime White Sox infielder $1.25MM, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). The Relativity Sports client can earn an additional $500K worth of incentives, tweets MLB.com’s Mark Bowman. Despite having been in the league for seven seasons, Beckham is still just 29 years of age. He’s coming off a disappointing season in Chicago that saw him bat a career-worst .209/.275/.332 in 237 plate appearances, though defensive metrics did praise his work at both second base and third base last season. Beckham carries a good bit of experience at both positions and is a lifetime .242/.304/.372 hitter that has averaged 13 homers per 162 games. While he hasn’t lived up to the expectations many carried when he was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2008 draft, Beckham will provide the Braves with an option at either second base or third base, both of which are positions of need in Atlanta. While Jace Peterson had a solid three-month run at second base in 2015, he wilted considerably from July through season’s end, hitting just .212/.281/.297 over his final 80 games/299 plate appearances. Some pegged Peterson as a utility player more than a starter when he was coming through the Padres’ system, and Beckham at least gives Atlanta a platoon partner for Peterson, who hit a dreadful .190/.234/.276 versus lefties in 2015. At third base, Hector Olivera was believed to be a possible long-term option, but the Braves have recently transitioned him to the outfield, so there’s an opening at the hot corner as well. While Beckham probably won’t be counted on as an everyday option there, he does provide some experience at the position and give the Braves an element of depth. Beckham’s signing could mean that infielder Pedro Ciriaco isn’t long for the Braves’ 40-man roster. The deadline to tender arbitration-eligible players a contract is tonight, and with Beckham and Adonis Garcia both serving as fellow right-handed options, the Braves could jettison the well-traveled Ciriaco.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) If he can still be okay behind the plate, I'd love for him to take Flowers roster spots and also take some at bats away from Laroche. Unfortunately I don't see us doing that anyways. You need to step back on statements like this. Rosario was released for a reason. poor hitting away from his home park and he is a bad defender. We may wish for an all-star catcher but at least Flowers is rated as an excellent defender ad on occasion provides some pop in that bat of his. It makes no sense to me that we would get rid of Flowers and count on a catcher that just got released by his team. You are losing not gainng by that
  18. MLB Trade Rumors Minor MLB Transactions: 11/27/15 By Steve Adams | November 27, 2015 at 1:45pm CST Here are today’s minor transactions from around the league… 1 COMMENT Dayan Viciedo, Jordan Norberto In Talks With NPB’s Chunichi Dragons By Steve Adams | November 27, 2015 at 12:06pm CST Outfielder Dayan Viciedo and left-handed reliever Jordan Norberto are nearing contracts with the Chunichi Dragons of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball, according to a report from Japanese media outlet Sankei Sports (h/t: NPB Tracker’s Patrick Newman, on Twitter). As Newman notes, signing Viciedo would mean that the Dragons will not retain former big league infielder Hector Luna, who has spent the past three seasons with the team. Viciedo, who will turn 27 in March, did not play in the Majors in 2015 after being released by the White Sox last winter. He spent Spring Training with the Blue Jays after signing a minor league pact but did not make the team, leading to another release, after which he signed a minor league deal with the Athletics. Viciedo split the 2015 season between the Triple-A affiliates for the A’s and the White Sox, who re-signed him on a minor league deal after Oakland cut him loose after 30 games. In 66 total contests at the Triple-A level last season, Viciedo hit .287/.348/.450. Of course, he also has extensive Major League experience as well, having served as a corner outfielder and DH for the White Sox for the better part of five years from 2010-14. Viciedo came to the Sox on a four-year, $10MM deal after defecting from Cuba but never lived up to the lofty expectations many carried for him, as he batted .254/.298/.424 in 483 Major League games.
  19. the Sox are making some moves to shore up the AAA club and add potential replacements. Now they sign the back up catcher. It's all good in my opinion. I don't understand why we have so many negative comments. Long ways to go till opening day
  20. I am sure most every player on our team is available in a trade if the return is right. I do agree with some that have expressed concerns about our team management and their ability to judge talent. We have let a lot of players go that could have continued (and did with other teams) to be productive contributors
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) Agreed. Although....... reading this board could be entertaining to the FO after having a few drinks. Pass the bottle!!!
  22. Why such negativity? It's aminor league deal and might add some depth if we need it during the year
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) This quote from KW says it all and I agree. “I’ve been there so I certainly understand,” Williams said. “A lot of things are in play right now. I know it can be confusing, but it’s completely understandable from my perspective that this is what you do before you decide on the definitive plan.” There are so many uncontrollable variables involved and that's what these meetings are for. The Sox can't sit here say they want to trade for player A if player A is not available so its Hahn's job to have discussions with other GM's to see who's available and what Sox players they might be interested in. Another variable is where JR sets the payroll ceiling at. Relax Sox fans, its mid November, not mid February. Too many fans reading way too far into nothing at all. The last thing the Sox front office needs to do is listen to the desperation expressed here.
