QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 04:38 AM) @JJStankevitz: The #WhiteSox were 49-51 when the trade deadline passed. With today's loss, they're 11-17 since. Watched the game on ROOT sports last night. The at bats by Ramirez and especially Sanchez were real bad. But, they are aggressive hitters and you can see how a pitcher will throw to them. I think with sanchez it's just inexperience. The Shark had 8 strikeouts and looked decent for a bit, however, another bad first inning and allowing home runs got us again. I just have a hard time with this first inning stuff from our pitchers. It looks like Smards average fastball speed is down too. I would like to know where our homerun power disappeared? We have a slow team ranking soemthing like 14th or 15th in the league in stolen bases and we strikeout quite a bit. In our park it would seem to be a better idea to have some power hitters. I don't see our young players filling that role either. Maybe Thompson can hit 15-20 when playing everyday I don't know.

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) Why on Earth would anyone "deal" for LaRoche? The only way he's not on the White Sox in 2016 is if the White Sox eat his entire contract and put him on waivers. And of course, the next time the White Sox eat a 1 year contract as large as LaRoche's will be the first. Adam LaRoche will be their DH and backup 1b next year. Someone wil be glad to take Laroche. He has a good hitting history before 2015 and has a gold glove defense. We took a chance on him and I am sure someone else would too. Now saying that if we keep him that's fine with me too -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) Over the last 30 days, he's 167th out of 179 for qualified fWAR I like Mike Soscia (or however you spell his last name) and his contempt for all these fancy schmnacy stats and their abbreviations. People can lose sight of the baseball game with all that stuff. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) That's because of his s***ty first two months. He's had a fine year. Maybe next year it's Thompson in the OF and Cabrera at DH? Laroche is a gold glove 1Bman but we have Abreu so Adam may be the odd man out in 2016 and dealt this off season -

Frustration rules here. Understandable but you can't go with a one year plan. The players we signed were proven contributors. We never seem to have that same level of play after we sign them. Look at Robertson with six blown saves and tied for hat dubious mark as the most in the league. Save those six games and we are tied for the wild card. Laroche can't hit now, which also seemed to haunt Dunn. Bonafacio tanked bad and was released. But, we are developing our own and the plan can't be abandoned because we aren't in the World Series. 28 other teams are in the same boat -

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) I have no idea how you compare across eras. In 1908, Walsh went 40-15 with a 1.42 ERA over 464 innings. I really agree with your statement. How do we really come up with a valid comparison? In the era of the dead ball and just after the turn of the century when there are few, if any, films to watch, people to talk to that actually saw the players, probably now where the stats we have now, etc, how do we see how those players compare against guys today. For many of us Our greatest players of all time knowledge starts with the Big Hurt. I bet there are many posters on this site that have never seen players like Carl Yaz, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and other real fine players actually play. Even I have never seen the Babe play LOL

watched the game on ROOT. Even the Mariner announcers were impressed with Rodon and Thompson. I really was impressed with how Rodon went after the hitters. Downfall, if any, just like with Sale is giving up that homer. Probably a bit tired or whatever but left it up. If Carlos Rodon is a work in progress think how good he can be with some experience. -
If you live out here in God's Country ROOT Northwest will be broadcasting the Sox/Mariners series.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) Sale is the best peak I have ever seen with the White Sox. Before I would call him best ever for the franchise, I want to see him hold that peak for a number of years. Guys like Ted Lyons and Ed Walsh dominated their eras. Walsh actually still holds an all-time lead on Sale in ERA+ at 146 to 142. Walsh also leads in FIP, which Sale doesn't even break the top 10 on. Ed Walsh is also a Hall of Famer. Sale can get there, and is well on his way, but for my two cents, best ever consideration takes a larger body of work. Gary Peters and Joel Horlen were pretty darn good in the era of poor offensive Sox teams. Early Wynn was good as well as Wilbur Wood. Sale is right up there with them at this point in his career

Micah Johnson back at AAA, expected call up in Sept

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) Call him up when he is out of rehab. Release Beckham and Alexei. Or do a waiver deal for Alexei. Matt Albers too....no reason to hang onto him and he should net a decent prospect. Sanchez at short. isn't going to happen nor should it -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) Yeah but face it, we all know Alexei isn't sitting down. and he shouldn't but I bet by mid September we see more rookes inserted in the line up. But 30 days at the end of the season is not a real good barometer of their ability -

Don't give up on someone like Avisail Garcia. You can't make decisions like that on one game, a weeks worth or sometimes even a year. This is a long term deal on player development. The same goes for Thompson. It's all exciting right now but 23 at bats is not a good judge. I think Robin is bringing him along very well. Saladino has slowed down some while it appears Sanchez is getting somewhat better with the bat and is real good with the glove. We have some decisions next year for sure and they are exciting. We may actually be seeing our own talent finally coming up and producing -
Could White Sox trade some pitching to fill other areas in offseason
elrockinMT replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was a fan of the Smard. trade but seeing an ERA hitting close to 5.00 and all the homers he gives up is getting a bit old. If he sticks with the Sox I just hope this year was an anomaly -

Some quick observations from the Sox dugout at Safeco
elrockinMT replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 12:48 AM) I wasn't in the greatest mood yesterday but had the ticket so I decided to go down anyways. I've been brutally sick with bronchitis (feeling better today thankfully, long past contagious just trying to slowly rid my body of it) and because of the fires here in the PNW the air quality is seriously Beijing level bad according to our newscasters and seeing the early Danks problems wasn't the best start. I had a good time overall. The Jose HR was sick, a real no doubter and all the Sox fans gave him a rousing ovation. Jose is the man and felt good to see other fans appreciate him. Safeco is a beautiful park. I just wish one of these years (been in Seattle 4 years now) that when the Sox come to Safeco late in the summer they are relevant. You are a true Sox fan. I did get to see the Sox in 2005 when they played in Seattle. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) I had row 20 behind the dugout. 36 bucks, thanks Mariners and Sox both being crap draws. Was down there about 40 minutes prior to the game and stuck around through the 8th inning. Won't lie I bugged out early to avoid the big traffic rush. In warmups it seemed like Carlos Sanchez and Saladino were pretty friendly. They were catch partners. Sanchez is a small guy but his pimp walk is Robbie Cano'esque. He has a lot of swag I'm surprised more scouting reports don't note it. Alexei did his own thing in warmups as did Avi. Those were the only guys I really saw warming up everyone else was either good or probably in the cages pregame. Trayce was a popular autograph and he obliged quite a few. He had a funny back and forth with the Mariners' moose mascot. He seemed very loose and why not it's a good time in the Thompson family. Dugout was pretty dead pregame did not see much energy and I get it. West coast getaway day on a mediocre team in August. During the game the only guy on the rail consistently was Jose, and that might have been because he was DHing and just wanted to keep a bit more into the game. During the national anthem Eaton stood right between Boston and Abreu, that was an interesting contrast. In warmups Danks was consistently throwing 58 footers and it translated into the game. His arm is just too flakey on him he either loses command or velocity it seems in half his starts. You guys all know it but seeing RV up close just confirmed all the bad stereotypes I have about him. He's just dead man. He had the shades on and he was posted up on the rail by the stairs just staring into space most of the time. Didn't see any rah rah stuff from him, not that baseball is the game for that. But just confirmed my own biases really. I yelled "Robin I love you but please retire" and it got a few chuckles from the Sox fans. Not many Sox fans at the park today at all. Less than last year even. that's about it. The pick Saladino made in the 1st or 2nd inning was rediculous, had a great view of it. The play Alexei made on Trumbo was easier than it looked on TV. But to his credit he didn't round it off as many SSs are prone to when they have a slower runner. Eaton was absolutely flying around 3rd on the play he scored on. Very impressive great technique and didn't slide headfirst which is a good habit to get out of him. none of these are meant as "hot takes" just my observations. Take them all with a grain of salt. Reading your story kind of makes we wonder why you went to the game? Thompson is from Portland, OR, and I am betting there were some folks in the pre game bringing that up. Over 30,000 fans for all three games is not a crap draw I don't think. But, I watched on TV so I guess I didn't see the behind the scenes stuff -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) Quintana will be dealt. The problem is we usually trade or let go the wrong guy. Look at Santiago. Look at Mark Buehrle. Look at McCarthy before he got hurt. In the offseason maybe they could package Q and Danks and Micah, make somebody take Johnny's salary and we get one Puig and Ethier in return. I think the obvious trade is for Ethier and Puig. The question is what do we give up? I say Q, Danks and Micah. You would give up two starting pitchers and a promising rookie for a struggling outfielder? How much is Ethier or Puig being paid?
