  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) Robin should buy some books and learn how to teach fundamentals in spring training, then. Kenny sounds like the worst executive a team can have. Please leave, Kenny. Go to Hollywood and be a model or something. Your value of yourself is inflated. Robin Ventura was a gold glove third baseman. I think he knows fundamentals. Can he teach those fundamentals to veteran ballplayers is the question
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) Amazing how tough it is to be a baseball player. Gillaspie went from last year appearing to be a guy who might last a while to a guy who now is done. He has no real upside. He is a lousy fielder and a fair to lousy hitter with no speed. Beckham also is done and it's time for the Sox to let him go. I think this story is really one where we can all learn from as far as judging talent and success. Gillaspie came from the Giants organization where he was stalled because of Pablo Sandoval occupying third base. He did pretty good for the Sox in 2014 with the bat even though he cooled towards the end. Defense was not good but the bat made it better to swallow and folks were giddy over Conor. In 2015 it caught up with him. Beckham is a different story in my opinion. He was signed by the Sox as a role player/utility player. He can play three infield positions quite well. Conor was limited to third base and struggled defensively. Gordon has helped us with his defense. You sign people to fill roles and you can't expect them to all be .400 hitters with 100 RBI's. I do get frustrated by unrealistic comments of some posters who just seem to want to hate on someone. Who would you replace Beckham with? Leury Garcia or try Bonifacio again? The young talent should be looked at as starters not part time utility players.
  3. The ROOT Northwest channel here carries Mariners games. Friday-Saturday-Sunday will have the Sox and Mariners games from Seattle. I know it is a regional audience but there are a few of us up in this area of the country. Afraid we are faling out of the wild card hunt but all things are possible. At least there is a chance on seeing Sale and Rodon pitch
  4. Just saw where Conor is hitting the proverbial bricks again as the Angel's DFA'd him yesterday
  5. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 02:27 AM) f***in Danks Don't get too worked up about Danks. It's just the same oh-same oh with a Sox pitcher not being ready for the first inning of a game. Giving up two homers is a bit much though I agree
  6. I think we have the three starting OF spots filled. But, Thompson might be a good 4th OF option. Now if we make a change at the DH things might be different and spots open up
  7. My observation on this is that we are developing players in our system for a reason and that is to have young, home grown and contract/cost controlled players for some years to come. Many of us have called for building from within. Saladino isn't real strong with the bat, but he has been outstanding with the glove and I am guessing will improve. Plus we still have Davidson. I think at some point you have to see whether Davidson can produce or not. I don't think we got him just to hold down a AAA spot
  8. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) So 3 HBP and they still lost. Unable to get the big hit when needed
  9. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) Sox offense is going to lay an egg against Haren today, aren't they? They have got to figure a way to hit an 87 MPH fastball. Sale with 5 of 6 outs by the K needs to get offensive support
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) People should go back to the Sox sign Bonifacio thread for some perspective. Hahn and KW really aren't dumber than any of us. No doubt Bonifacio looked like a good signing as a super utility player. It didn't work out. Feel bad for Emilio because I think he was a positive in the clubhouse but you must produce on the field. When you make personnel moves there is a lot of scrutiny on non-producers like Gillaspie and Bonifacio especially with the struggles of this team. Youth are brought in and must be allowed to play. There is that chance towards the waiver deal deadline that someone like Laroche goes too, but I kind of think that is unlikely. We may be looking at a new DH for 2016 though depending on Thompson's showing the rest of this year
  11. Here is hoping that Sale is the ace today. We need the win so as not to be the butt of Cubs celebrating and also to stay in the WC hunt
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 01:18 AM) Thank. You. Adam. Someone. Drive. Him. In. When Laroche gets a hit you gotta be happy for the guy. He has struggled so bad this season and you know he wants to contribute
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 16, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) 1). Walking Fowler to get to Schwarber, then not k'ing him with offspeed stuff 2). Flowers on the tag play. 3). Eaton baserunning 4). Eaton calling off Melky on a ball he couldn't see 5). Cabrera overthrow 6). Flowers not stopping it 7). Quintana not backing up home Just in one inning. You forgot the offensive side. We had runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. As usual we can't put the bat on the ball for a chance at a sac fly or other un scoring play. Two strike outs to end the inning
  14. Hope the Q can show the Shark how it's supposed to go
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 01:20 AM) He'll wind up in St.Louis and be good for 4 months. That is my call. The return has to be worth it, but I can see it happening. I think if he isnt traded we just about have to give him a qualifying offer so as not to lose everything we invested. Now saying that just ponder this for a moment... what happens if all of sudden Shark turns it on and pitches like an ace for the rst of the season? He had a real good stretch and does pitch deep into game usually. Teams like his arm. Maybe the Sox still do.
