My view on managers in general- RV in particular
elrockinMT replied to gosox41's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) Is Robin saying something wrong here? Isn't the job having the pitchers ready for the 1st inning on Don Cooper? He is the one with them in the bullpen. He is the self proclaimed manager of the pitching staff. Robin said the right things. -
Should the Sox make an example out of someone?
elrockinMT replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They can still turn things around this season. If not there is always next year. Saying that though you know there will be some moves made. I think that the batting and pitching stats put us in the bottom three in at least the AL in both categories. Seems there is plenty of blame to share. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) The Sox got played hard by Oakland for Shark, that much is obvious in retrospect. Chicago made the deal because they thought they were close to contending and thus overpaid slightly to get him. Well, not only did they not get good value, they didn't get a playoff push either. Phegley will never be anything more than backup (at best) but Semien and Bassit have chances to be solid regulars. In Semian's case he would the 2nd highest WAR on the team right now for position players. FML. My guess is the Sox continue their attempt to sign the Shark to a deal

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 05:08 AM) Most of us Soxtalk veteran posters haven't always been like this. Speaking for myself and maybe others (?) we're beat down with lousy play and more apt to make outrageous negative statements. For myself, all the 05 guys are gone now so there's nobody to stick up for. I have no emotional tie to any of these stiffs, except of course Sale and Abreu who deserve my utmost respect. Understood completely, but I still support the team. We have talent, but it just hasn't seemed to jell. Now after last nights fiasco of a game you would hope maybe they have hit bottom and will comeback?

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 01:49 AM) Dear god Noesi works slow I posed the question in a different forum topic and that was why Noesi is still on this team? Noesi gives up runs every time he pitches and I am guessing they keep him because they know this team is getting knocked around all the time so they need an innings eater.

I was checking from time to time on Gameday. Very frustrating to see another Sox starter not prepared for the first inning of the game. Couple that with a non-existent offense and I can certainly see where some folks are ready to jump ship. At what point are these players going to jell? You win three in a row only to lose three in a row and look to be headed to #4 in a row. You can't expect to build confidence in your team let alone make up ground playing like that

What happened to Matt Albers?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 16m16 minutes ago Matt Albers threw first bullpen since KC brawl sidelined him. He's hopeful of return before AS break. Makes you wonder if they are going to keep Hector Noesi around that long -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) Here's the problem with that statement...where exactly are we going to get position players otherwise? We're regularly drafting pitchers at the top of our draft. We traded away position players to get a pitcher this year. When we sign position players we are spending high dollar amounts to get guys towards the end of their career. We keep saying "draft and develop pitching and trade it for hitting". Don't we actually have to do that at some point? Put it this way..."Pitching is the name of the game". The White Sox have the lowest offensive WAR in MLB over the last 10 years and are right at the top in pitching fWAR (3rd). That has translated to a below .500 record. Pitching is important but it can't be the only part of the game. We aren't winning by signing veterans to plug holes and developing no offensive talent despite our regularly great pitching. There is an old adage in baseball, and I think it was from some owner in the days of Bill Veeck, who basically said you never trade a pitcher for a hitter because good pitching can defeat a good hitter every time. I still think you don't trade your better established pitchers. You want position players than you look at the free agent market. The idea of trading for prospects has not been real successful for the Sox. I had no real problem with Semien but his defense sucks so what do you gain? People already complain enough about our defense. I do agree that our offense and the team in general has not been good. But, the guys we picked up do have established track records. They might not be doing real well at this point in the season but they can still turn things around.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) Do you see any other way to turn around the worst offense/defense in baseball without trading away pitching? It's certainly not going out and signing Upton, Heyward and Alex Gordon. Pitching is the name of the game. By trading away your good solid pitchers you open a big hole. If we decide to upgrade our #5 starter it might better be through free agency signing. Yes we have to upgrade in the some positions and maybe catcher is #1 followed by 3B. I wonder if Adrian Beltre might be available soon from Texas if they decide to go with Gallo full-time?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) Iassogna has no business being an umpire in the majors. I don't have the game on TV so I don't see what you guys are seeing but you all seem in agreement this ump SUCKSA!. Does MLB review the umpire performance and after a game have a sit down with them?

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) Need to go to Matt Davidson and Micah very soon unless Carlos and Bacon start hitting the damn ball Beckham doubled and scored a run

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) It's Gordon Beckham, he's proven year after year that he's not a good hitter. It's not hating on him, it's just the truth. who else do you wish to complain about and expect more of? Let's start by being realistic in our expectations. The team is made of of 25 individuals players hopefully working together. Baseball is a team sport and all 25 have their pluses and minuses

How about we consider that all players go into a slump from time to time during the season. It is a bit tiring to see this hate on Sox players all the time. Same story just the names change

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Well he's walking at about a 10% clip right now which is pretty good. He has made 1 error at 3B in 55 games. Those are good stats to know. But, I think the Sox see something in Gillaspie based on last year. You hope it wasn't a fluke year at the bat. But, his defense is not all that great

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) Some of our players shouldn't be playing, which is the point Not the point of my reply though

Three or more excellent pitches translates into a winner. Maybe our new draft pick phenom can follow suit? They say he has three real good pitches and a funky motion. Sometimes I think an unorthodox delivry is like a 4th pitch
