  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 11:39 PM) Micah might just have peaked too early in camp. Still, betting money's on him as the starter, correct? I like Micah but Sanchez has been more steady this ST
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 10:07 PM) 6 homers allowed by Samardzija in approximately 15 innings 9 K's today but you are right 6 homers or more allowed in 15 innings is a lot even for ST. Maybe he is just concentrating on one aspect of his pithcing game, which is ok as long as it isn't "let's give up more homers today."
  3. Thank God Beckham's in there !
  4. I had to laugh yesterday while watching he Royals and Sox game on MLBnetwork. The Royals announcers were downplaying the fact that Rodon had k'd 9 of 12 in four innings and said they were probably just wanting to get a look at Rodon's stuff to prepare for the regular season when they faced him and weren't really interested in swinging. It's just a spring training game after all
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) You have an infatuation with Gordon Beckham. Get some help. Beckhamtalk.com Yes Mr Caulfield please do. It will be a long season with you hating on Beckam all year. I am surprised you haven't blamed Gordon Beckam for the arm soreness of Robertson & Petrika and Johnson's physical issue. Show some support
  6. I don't see where either one fit on the White Sox. They can't make the cut in Seattle why would we be interested. Plus they have been reassigned to the minors, or so it appears, and thus still under team control. Montero seems to need a lot of work still and had been at 1B and obviously we have no need for an additional firstbaseman.
  7. The same folks who criticize a Gordon Beckham, John Danks, Noesi, etal, are the first ones to slober all over some other teams reject or reclamation project. Beckham can bring a positive contribution to this team. He is a plus defender and can play three IF positions. He may come around and hit decently also. We should all hope for that and I believe he was signed for a reason and that was to be a super IF sub or at least be that role player at this time. We could have worse ready to step in to a starting role
  8. Danks rebounded in August/September and Cooper had nothing but praise for him if I remember correctly. . I am only concered about a further injury or aggravation of the arm issue he had. I think he remains #4 in the rotation, if healthy. Noesi seemed to have earned the #5 spot and Cooper was working further with him. Now if that doesn't pan out I would assume Penny is up there as a choice but where does that leave Rodon? AAA where maybe he should be or does he take someone's rotation spot. I personally think Rodon needs more minor league seasoning and when brought up he is there to stay as a starter
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 13, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) Gordon Beckham turns 30 in 18 months. Bold prediction- he's out of baseball by 30. Already hateing on a player and it's only spring training. Defense alone will keep Bweckham in the majors
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2015 -> 09:57 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 1h1 hour ago Jesse Crain felt great again throwing live BP. He'll throw one more session on Sunday and then they'll re-evaluate Crain's next step is probably a B game or Minor League game but he seemed as confident as he's been all camp today Thanks for sharing. This is great news and hopefully he continues his comeback successfully
  11. Rodon got smacked around by Texas for three runs in the first inning today. Plus he gave them a run with a WP. I guess he is not ready yet. Plus John Danks is not going anywhere and can still pitch effectively. Too many people live off one game or some sttaement made by someone. It's ST people not the stretch run
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) putting pressure on Beckham by having him hit 2nd.... interesting esp with davidson in the lineup as well. I respectfully suggest that you are reading too much into this line up considering it's the third game of spring training. Beckham hit second lots of times in his tenure with the Sox. Davidson is a candidate at some point for the Sox at 3B and Beckham is considered a super sub (2B, SS and 3B) Plus Gordon is at 2B in this game and is a legitimate contender for that position with Johnson and Sanchez.
  13. The "experts" on MLB Network this morning talked of Sale's injury and also discussed Rodon and Minoso. They mentioned the foot injury needing to be treated very cautiously because if it isn't healed properly and completely it can affect the pitchers motion and follow through. I think we have discussed that and certainly the Sox know all about the issues. Now they were critical of the Sox not handing Rodon a starting job right now questioning if he was really as advanced as the reports say he is. The consensus was if he has the wipeout pitches now he should be on the 25 man roster come opening day. But, they then went over his fastball, slide and changeup and were impressed.
  14. Our season is lost! I have pondered this for the last few days and this is all I can think of as far as its affect. We are done! But, maybe not
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 1, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) Any chance there are streaming options for this? MLB network has a couple upcoming Sox games scheduled but I haven't determined if Friday is one of those games. There is a tape delayed game one evening and I am assuming a live game the next this week
  16. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) my original thought got lost in the rhetoric, can a manager impose appearance code? The owner/boss wants some semblance of class befitting an elite member of society. It was many many years ago we were staying at the Drake hotel downtown and the Pistons were in town and staying there. Those guys looked and dressed like they took pride in their game and team and not like a bunch of slobs. If I was manager, as long as you had a uniform on, clean shaven, no jewelry, short hair GI cut preferred. When not in uniform you still had a code when in public. I know members here will say as long as they perform, they can look like clowns is okay, not the point. thanks, douglas I don't approve of facial hair and the long hair some wear. Mainly because I don't see it as aerodynamically advantageous
  17. I can't believe he comments here about Beckham. By golly geez don't you read the off season stories. We will win 162 games this season judging by all the positive feel good stuff I have been reading. Where have you folks been???
  18. I don't know. My feeling is that Gordon Beckham will step up with a renewed vigor and be the everyday secondbaseman
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) He turned down a bigger deal from teh Cubs. But who wants to play for the scrubs? So OK what is fair considering we have Sale signed at a team dream deal IMO? $20 to $22M?
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) I can buy that. I'll take it. We'll see how it plays out. The Vegas thing concerned me when I read their low expectations for the Sox. Maybe we should start placing bets with our bookies given the Vegas slap in the face. We will make the playoffs and you can take their money to he bank
  21. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) I started to think about this over the weekend and I wanted to get everyones opinion here. How do you want the Sox to proceed with the Samardzija extension? Part of me would like them to get him locked up and have a rock solid 1-4 for the next 4-5 years. On the other hand, Rodon will be a full-time figure in the rotation next year and Danish and Montas have the chance to maybe break as well, so maybe invest that money elsewhere and get the comp pick? Look what you have done by thinking!! You have everyone riled up. Quit it! Anyway I don't see the Shark getting anything over $16-$18M for 4 years. from the Sox. Look at our history with John Danks. I suppose you might se a contract with a rising price tag since Danks comes off the books in what two years? But, we will need extra money to pay Sale at some point.
  22. QUOTE (staxx @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) I really hope Rodon dominates, but health of the team is my #1 this spring. We NEED to stay healthy. Also, the backup C. I can still see someone like Soto end up taking away substantial playing time from Flowers. With the way Tyler Flowers responded last year I would not rule him out as a real contributor
  23. You never know what can happen injurywise. That is why I would have kept Danks too. I still wonder why we have a no hit utility infielder on the 40 man. I guess we promote from the minors unless there is a good FA option out there
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) I can think of about one hundred million hang ups personally. exactly. Shields wants a long term contract of at least $100M. He is up their in age. Make it like 3 or 4 years max at about $14M and it's more realistic. Not sure we have that extra money anyway and we are sitting pretty darn good pitching wise right now
