  1. QUOTE (flavum @ May 20, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) I just have "white sox" on twitter search bookmarked, and I happened to see it at the right time. OR are you really Rick Hahn?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Yes, there's a very solid chance it is a concern and the organization will likely take it into account with regards to whether or not they choose to move him. It may cause them to not move him in the face of an otherwise solid offer, and frankly, "making sure Viciedo and Abreu are happy" may well be a more important goal than making that trade. But, that's one that only the people who are in that clubhouse have a good idea about. What I see as an opposing view point, and not to harp on other posters opinions or otherwise degrade them, is are we in a complete rebuilding or a retooling? I think you start with a great core in any event. 2B-SS-CF and C have historically been the cornerstone. We have Eaton in CF, Beckham at 2B, Ramirez at SS and Flowers at C. The weakest spot being C IMO. I think you have to compete with that group when building the tem and if you start trading everyone for the "unknown" minor leaguers you are always in a rebuild phase, if that makes sense. We have added Abreu at 1B and I am still thinking Davidson is penciled in at 3B for the future even though Gillaspie has been a pleasant surprise. We have Viciedo and the injured Garcia in the OF. All in all that is a pretty good group. Competitive for certain. The weakness has now become the pitching staff. Do we have extra young position players to trade or can we add through free agent signings? There is no way at this time that I see Semien taking over at any IF position. He has promise but might best be suited for the super sub role. The farm system might still be 2-3 years from providing starting position players and maybe a year sooner for pitchers (Johnson back up and maybe Beck coming soon). Finding that reliable closer might help too obviously
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:57 PM) Maybe you just underrate Eric Sogard and DJ LeMahieu? Ya, bet you didn't think about that. Very interesting take on the situation
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) I think you severely overrate Gordon Beckham. Last year, Beckham compared favorably to Eric Sogard and DJ LeMahieu. If I severely over rate Beckham I do so in the company of a number of baseball analysts who seem to think highly of him.
  5. Have we already lost the game? Carroll knows this is important for the team and his status with the big club
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) That's not going to happen. You can't win with this (injured) roster and this pitching staff. This team is not built to win right now mainly because of injuries to go with some guys who have no business being in the big leagues. As far as trades ... I stand by my prediction Dunn will not be moved because no contender will want him. Maybe an NL team will want a pinch hitter like the Phils did with Thome that one year (or was it the Dodgers I forget?) but aside from an NL team wanting a pinch hitter nobody will want him. Lindstrom, Downs and DeAza should be dealt, but nobody will want them as well. I think somebody will take a chance on Beckham and he'll be dealt for a couple minor leaguers. So we trade no one except Beckham for just a couple minor league players? I still don't get the Beckham hate. Plus why would we just give up a great defender at 2B who is showing he can hit for just a couple minor leaguers? I really think you sell guys short.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) More interesting than who they trade, will be who they target. Have they changed their minds at looking for another catcher? Does pitching pop back onto the list? OF's? Hit the nail on the head. You don't trade just to trade. What are we looking for and what do other teams have to offer us in exchange for anyone previously mentioned? But, it's a long season and we still have a reasonable chance of competing for a wild card spot
  8. We lost a couple games in Houston but it's too early for trade talk. What if we are in the hunt for a wild card spot?
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 19, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) They haven't been the main game on MLBN yet this season. That's what I thought. For all the hype talk they give Abreu & Sale you would think they might at least think about it. They show every game of the Red Sox and Yankees except when they play the Sox
  10. Hopefully we can head back to Chitown with a win
  11. Let's us strive mightily to win and help with a great PTC
  12. I watched it. Another loss. The only WGN games I have watched where the Sox won was the Cubs game. They did win on ESPN too, but I haven't seen them broadcast again or as the main game on MLBN
  13. Enough already and feeling sorry for ourselves. It was only one game. Let's see how Danks bounces back
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) People if they'd use their brains would realize Buehrle is one of those Jamie Moyer types that will pitch forever (if he wants to). His style of pitching pretty much guaranteed that he was far from finished. I think that was a KW issue at times
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) Danks has never had great command. Even when he had good stuff, he was effectively wild in my opinion. Now, his stuff isn't good enough to get people to swing and miss his high fastball, etc. Unless he all of a sudden gets pinpoint control, it's hard to see him turning his career around. I don't remember the baseball analyst who made the remark that Danks, as many pitchers returning from TJ type surgery, are afraid to let it air out when throwing that fastball. He though Danks had one of the best changeups in the game but until he stated to get at least a 10 MPH difference between the change and the fastball he was going to have trouble
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 18, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) The expectations from the Danks thread on this board in the offseason of 2011 would be an interesting read. Read my post Marty. I basically agree with you
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Worst contract in Sox history given the results during the contract extension? Danks troubles are really beginning to weigh on many of us. But, at the time of that big contract how many of us were in favor of his contract? I was I know that. At the same time so many were willing to write off Buerhle and his contract and say good riddance to him. I wasn't. I know hindsight is 20/20 and you can't predict an injury, but has Mark B ever been injured? The guy pitched two no-hitters and the Sox management let him go. John Danks is relying on that changeup way to much now and hits like 89 tops usually. I hope he can build up his arm strength as it looks like we probably have him for the duration of that contract. I say this realizing it's only one game right now but he certainly struggles
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 18, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) The baseball gods are teasing us. Does anyone remember when the Sox were at full strength this year? I blame Herm Schneider
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 18, 2014 -> 12:51 AM) Jose Abreu might sit Sunday with a sore ankle. Abreu began experiencing left ankle discomfort over a week ago and was limping noticeably in Saturday's loss to the Astros. He should be fine after a day or two of rest. The Cuban slugger has 15 home runs and 42 RBI in 44 games this season for the White Sox. Per Rotoworld You could tell he was hurting. Hawk and Whimpy talked about it too and how it might be affecting his approach at the plate
