  1. Ray Durham gave it his all when with the Sox. I was disappointed in that trade with Oakland, but hey it's like they say, "it's a business" right? I think we can compete with the Giants and have solid pitching going up against them. All those past series we lost are just that -in the past. You have to live for the future. Our offense looked good the last couple games against an LA staff with an ERA under 3.00 a game. Our pitching has been strong. Hopefully we can continue to produce and win.
  2. I was thinking the Sox might pull a trade to get a CF'er since we have had such a pathetic offensive output from that position. Rowand is supposed to be called up and that's fine too as long as he produces. Defensively he gives it his all and let's hope he starts to hit those line drives.
  3. I figured JB would be back in Charlotte. He needs some more time down there. However, I think he was still batting more than Willie was when Harris went down injured. Maybe Willie will be back in the line up, but I am not sure he's going to be a plus. I breathed a sigh of relief over that Rivera announcement too.
  4. I hope not. Of course he can do it, but I just hope if he does, it doesn't hurt the Sox to bad.
  5. Not to sound like a naysayer, but Ring hasn't been as dominant as his numbers indicate. Don't get me wrong, he has been very, very good, but there have been a handful of instances where he has given up other pitcher's runs. Please let me reiterate that I am not bashing him, because he has been great. But his numbers look so unbelievable that one would think he has hardly been touched. He has been more human than his numbers show, but he still has been excellent. As a Birmingham fan, I'd love to see him stay here all year. Not sure that will happen though. The mark of a great releif pitcher is to get that first hitter out. Many relievers on the Sox have failed to do that this year. I think Ring has a great future though. Imagine him with Marte as the two lefties in the pen. Open some trade possibilties.
  6. I don't know if putting Ordonez in CF improves anything. Mags didn't seem to like CF much, nor do I think he's fast enough to run down the ball. I do think Konerko needs to be back in the lineup and then we'll see if he has his hitting ability back.
  7. The question I have about DJ is this: I believe that when he first came into baseball with the Yankees he was thought to be a SS candidate. Jeter isn't one to be thought of as anyone but an everyday player and cemented to NY. So Jimenez, who was hurt in a car accident ends up with SD. We have him and put him at second. If 2B is not his usual or natural position then is he still in a learning mode? Is he still suffering from the affects of the car accident? He swings a pretty good bat, but as has been mentioned many times before, he shows some questionable decisions when to run and some real sloppy and uninspired defense. No matter how good the bat, if you give up runs with the glove AND bad running, it would seem that your in the negative column. Is Manuel unhappy with Jimenez? Is he likely to support bringing up Miles and moving Jimenez to SS? Is it possible Jose Valentin is on the trading block? My prejudice has always been in favor of Jose V. He may make some blunders, but he gives 100% plus every game and I am not sure DJ does.
  8. Tell me that Manuel wants to bench DJ and go with Miles? Didn't sound like he was being to critical of him in the article on Chisox.com.
  9. I agree that Daubach should get more playing time, but since there are so many fewer lefties than righties PK wouldn't get in there much as a DH.
  10. Let's sign Colon to a long term deal/ For a pitcher that means about 3 years, but Jerry R and Kenny W need to do it to show they are really committed to a Sox winner. I don't know of a better way to put it on the board. I think they should also go back to trying to sign MB and tie up Loiaza for a few more years.
  11. Oh, I read plenty. If I'm not mistaken that was when Thomas SAID they were pitching him inside and it was tough to hit, but he had to deal with it, then went on a tear. If that's 'whining' to you, fine, but it sounded like an adult that was frustrated to me, and one who was determined to beat it, and he did. I'd have to agree. Frustrated, but not whining. I think when someone's been with the team 13 years they have a right to speak up and out. I also don't think he is complaining about playing 1st base. He knows he is not the greatest defensive player and that Konerko is more comfortable there, but he'll do whatever it takes to help win games. We need the Big Hurt, who is one of the few players I know who can truly carry a team with his offense.
  12. After his last appearance where he threw 2 scoreless I don't think he will be released. Depending of course on continued success, but trading him for a prospect might be a possibility.
  13. How many times did you ever watch a MLB All-Star Game with the real thought in mind of cheering for the AL or NL? I always watched more to see the players on the Sox, who had been picked. The fun for me was to see a Sox player appear in his team uniform. Bud Selig has some strange ideas and very few of them seem rationale. Look how long it has taken them to find a new home for the Expos. The idea of home field advantage in the WS going to the winner of the all star game doesn't appeal to me either. I think that MLB and Selig are messing too much with the rich tradition of baseball and it's to the detriment of the game. The bottom line for these people is simply to make a buck and fans and tradition be damned.
  14. Get in touch with ABC they might give you a copy.
  15. They had the shift on for McGriff, so DJ was in shallow RF, and Jose was playing 2B. I thought it was DJ initially as well, and was surprised as hell by it....and then they clarified it, and I became less awestruck....because Jose can make those kinds of plays. That was my original thought oo. I was sure it was Jimenez making that play, but when they showed the replay and the fact the shift was on it was clearly Jose Valentin. He gave it his all.
  16. Yeah, we're on a roll now. You can't fire JM after 2 wins in a row. And let's hope Barry Bonds doesn't hit a ton of homers against us. As long as our guys aren't star struck I think we will be ok against SF. Interesting to see how Ray-Ray Durham does at ex-Comiskey.
  17. I was surprised when the Sox brought yp Borchard this early in the season. I thought the organization big wigs were saying that JB needed more seasoning at the AAA level to correct his big swing. He's up with the club, but probably isn't ready. I don't think Harris is ready either. If we are to correct the CF problem we need to trade , or at the very least maybe think of giving it back to Rowand.
  18. Congratulations cwsox! I am envious. I have a 20 month old granddaughter that puts my Sox hat on and runs around the house when she comes to visit "papa". I know you have a very special memory there with your grandson and Comiskey Park.
  19. It was probably some Dodger fan thinking it was still '59.
  20. WE WON! Hopefully we can build on a solid performance. Sunday with Loaiza out there will possibly set the toe for the future. Playing SF at Comiskey Cell is going to be interesting.
  21. Wilson Alvarez did throw a no-hitter versus Baltimore but it was a CG 9-inning game. I also remember him beating Toronto in the AL Championship playoffs. I believe it was the only win we had. Alvarez was one heckuva pitcher and had a great breaking ball to go along with his fastball, etc. I loved to watch him pitch. The game last night was what we have been wanting for quite sometime now. Timely hitting, defensive excellence (except for that miscure by Lee) and some base running all glued together by a super pitching performance. I know we can play with the big boys. Now we have to see if they can keep it together for more than one game.
  22. My goodness NO! What I am saying is in defense of PK and that is he is still trying and contributing. I hope he can turn it around with the bat soon.
  23. i think the sox need to sign him long term! him and Loaiza! with burly and those 2, the sox will have one helluva 3-some for a years. That's what I have been saying. Colon did what a big game pitcher does. We needed the win last night and he stepped up. Loaiza and Buerhle can and have done the same thing. We need to keep that trio together.
  24. Carlos Lee plays hard. I think he was the only one hustling earlier in the year for awhile. He works on his fielding and wants to improve. But, last night he should have caught the ball to make it 20 in a row by Colon. But, when a team is not playing good mistakes like that are usually magnified. Last night we played REAL good and Carlos didn't make a game losing mistake. That's what we need every game is hustle, concentration, timely hitting and GREAT pitching. That's the way a team rises up to support another player, who makes a mistake. Team work!!
  25. I agree with you that Foulke is the real deal. I always liked him and was sorry to see him leave the Sox. Keith Foulke always rated up there with the best closers in the game.
