  1. I only caught the last inning and a half on game day. The offense is back at it again. 5 hits and 3 of those by Jimenez. Lee GDIP twice. My head is spinning. I wish I had stood in bed.
  2. rafacosta, where are you man that you have to listen to Portugese?
  3. Nice to hear positive stuff from a great baseball guy like Morgan. Rob Dibble of ESPN still thinks it's the Sox also. It will be good to see the Sox-Mariners on ESPN Sunday night and hear Joe Morgan.
  4. My prediction is Manuel stays. I don't think KW sees him as the problem. It is a number of things and centers around poor performance and maybe bad luck. Plus KW would have to admit his off season moves were wrong. I don't think that's going to happen. Manuel showed some real positives as far as making managerial moves to compensate for poor performance by players. I think we just might start seeing some wins. Pay attention this weekend.
  5. Well said. I agree that Rowand was given plenty of time. I like his competiveness and I think he still can do it at the big league level. The question is that off season injury. Is he recovered? AAA will give him time to get back on track. I was never sure anyway if Rowand was an everyday player. He looked better as a defenisve player and spot starter. Willie harris came with a lot of fan fare. He has shown some flashes of being a real good player. I think he is young and inexpereinced and maybe that trip to Charlotte fired him up. We'll see now I guess. I also think he gives the Sox some versatility since he can play the OF and 2B. Versatility wins games late. It will be a good weekend series against the Mariners.
  6. Manuel made the right move taking Koch out and sending Marte in. You always hear stuff from managers after their big stud loses the game like, "You gotta stay with your ace," "or he's my closer and you have to have confidence." I have never understood that because even the greatest struggle and if they are a manager needs to see that and make the move to ensure a win. Manuel showed me he is thinking and recognizes the need to make the move. Koch has always been called an erratic pitcher as far as control issues. To a manager or fan he is a heart attack waiting to happen. But he is a competitor who has fire. He also can throw 100 MPH. He needs help to harness that and claim his stopper role. Let's hope he is doing that and gets back on top. After all, we signed him for two years at good money and management didn't want to give Foulke the dollars to stay longer. It was hard for me to accept because I think Foulke was great, but Billy is here and that's who we have in the closers role. I want him to be number one and I see in his actions he wants to be too. Now he just has to put it back together. In the meantime Gordon and Marte have stepped up to fill in till BK is mechanically and/or physically sound, whichever it is.
  7. I know we are struggling, but I am still positive about this team. However, my point about ACE's is that when the team is going poorly they step up and pitch like Zito and Mulder. 3 or 4 runs is still more than they gave up. But, that being said, our starters haven't been that bad. I am just frustrated that's all and we all want to win. I would think the only one's wanting it more than us are the players. Let's go Sox!

    Sox talk

I complain only because I love the White Sox. I know they can win. I gripe and then when the frustration is vented, it's get ready for tonights game! All we need is some breaks to come our way and a couple wins and we are off to the races.
  9. at this point in time does it really matter anymore????? without offense we suck... and the defense isnt much better sorry to say........who cares whos on the mound... they arent going to get much support anyhow........mho........ Actually, the defense has been better than the past few seasons. They have only 17 errors in 27 games and are 6th in the AL in fielding percentage. Seattle is 1st with 12 errors in 26 games. If the lineup was hitting up to even half it's potential they would be sitting in 1st place right now. Amen to all that has been said. Frustrating start to the season. Again!
  10. The question is can it get any worse? We have "ace" pitchers who aren't stepping up when needed to shut down the other team; we have a "potent" offensive line up that can't get a hit; we have relievers who come in and can't get the first batter out when needed and blow leads; we have a running team that can't; we play in crappy weather. Maybe the rest of the homestand will get rained out? We go to Oakland and Seattle next week and if it just keeps going downhill I think we may be looking at changes. I hope that these guys can start delivering as they say they are trying to do because we need to start NOW! Tonight! This game! This is just a repeat of last year as far as I am concerned. Lots of frustration and lots of talk from the players about how things are going our way, how when you struggle it just gets worse, etc, etc. Pretty soon we will have to put bars on our windows so we don't jump out of them and little white pills to calm our frazzled baseball minds. Let's go Sox!
  11. To early to think of firing Manuel. Demote Rowand and bring up Harris or Borchard makes more sense. We need to get some new blood in the line up and get some people charged up.

    Fire Sale

Are people being negative? Yes and that's a shame. However, this is getting old and seems too much like last year. I think it's to early for a fire sale too, but you can't win a division and beyond by playing the kind of ball we are right now. Maybe a move or two would be a good idea to put some new blood in the line up.
  13. Supposedly Stewart goes against Freddie Garcia on Sat. and Colon pitches Sunday against Meche.
  14. He has done ok, but not as good as he was doing in the Spring games. But I liked what I saw the times I saw him throw. He bears down. I looks like the ESPN Sunday night game will be The Sox and Mariners. Us out of the Chicago area will get to see another game. I think Colon goes in that one.
  15. I read in the Trib that the Cop has a broken leg and they caught the H&R driver. Nothing more dangerous for a Cop then watching for traffic. More get hurt and killed in traffic accidents then by bad guys shooting them.
  16. Pretty soon, if Rowand doesn't get it together, there is going to have to be a decision made on either Harris or Borchard. I like Willie because as has been stated he is versatile. Borchard may end up replacing CLEE. Any other possibilities?
  17. What has happened to Mike Porzio. I see that he is 4-0 with an ERA just over 1.00 and on the 29th he pitched 7 shutout innings. He also has 24 K's in about 29 IP. Did he pick up a new pitch or something? Rausch ain't doing bad either. Anybody heard anything about MP to enlighten us?
  18. Does anyone know for sure who pitches for the Sox on Saturday night? I see that it is still listed as undetermined, or will Stewart be ready? I will be watching WGN, which is my only access to Sox games.
  19. Frank hit it hard according to everyhting I have read. I guess that's why baseball is the closest thing to horseshoes? We just need some offense, which leads to opening up the conversation again about who should go down. Actually most of out big hitters are in a slump so when do they come out of it? I think we need these pitchers to step up now and throw some shutouts. Am I asking too much? It reminds me of the days of the '67 Sox (the hittless wonders and great pitching) where Baseball Digest had a story about things that would happen that baseball year. The line went, "The White Sox get shut out 6 times in a row. They win 4 of them."
  20. Is this talk of a hip condition just speculation or is it something that was reported? Has Paulie ever said anything? The only injury I am aware of is the fact PK had a cracked or broken bone in his foot last year.
  21. You said exactly what I was thinking when I first heard Harold was helping as a hitting coach. I think the man is so well respected that any self respecting ball player would listen to him. Harold was always a gentleman and just an all-around great player. To bad his knees gave out or I think he would have been a perenial hitting leader ad full-time player. I think Harold has the right temperment for a hitting coach. I know from my experience as a ballplayer I just hated the big mouths that had to yell at you for everything instead of being patient and helping you through the rough spots.
  22. Doesn't much matter who was managing. I love it! It's what we needed to do to get things happening and we won. What else matters?
  23. Any coach can only TRY and help. It's up to the players to deliver. However, if there is ever a change contemplated I would hope it was either Harold Baines, or Hriniak. I don't see how some of these so called hitting coaches make it when they never hit above the Mendoza line in their careers.
  24. Just wanted to say something about Hawk for manager. You don't want to go there after his fiasco as GM once. Hawk is a great announcer and was a great player, but that's where it ends. His forte is not in the dugout. I love him though.
  25. I had some great and profound things to say and then as I was typing my reply I hit the wrong button and lost my message. Oh well, no reason to get fired up or nothing right Jerry? The Sox showed FIRE last night and Jon was there leading the team. Rios got into too. Gotta love what happened. I loved the displays by Big Hurt, Mags and CLee. Gordon was great. What more could you ask for? Little concerned about Koch, but I thought he was pitching pretty well and that homer he gave up was a fluke. I guess when your going bad nothing comes your way. Never saw a lot of blazing speed though. Could he have been concentrating more on just pitching good or is he hurt? No problem with JM not getting al fired up. It was the team that led the charge and that's the way it should have been. JM just wanted to make sure the little boys in blue didn't toss his entire starting 9.
