  1. Cardale Jones is like a really good version of Juice Williams. Really strong arm, big and strong runner, accuracy and decision-making issues. He's just better at all that stuff.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Sigh, what are people's thoughts: - my phone the other day started emitting a metallic battery acid burning smell when charging in my computer - since then it will only charge with one charger on "slow charge that takes ten hours - it also bare,y gets through the day for me anymore unless on airplane mode for most of day - I am very frustrated - I am in process of buying a house - most money is tied up in that, and probably can't buy phone in full - I don't want to apply for T-Mobile payment plan before my mortgage rate is locked in (suffering through a short sale) - I for some reason have insurance on sprint, should I just say it's stolen and pay outrageous deductible for refurbished phone? - also, phone is unlocked, so repair may not be accepted Thoughts? Better ideas? What phone? How long have you had it? I'd probably start by calling the OEM and telling them that you first noticed this happening using the charger it came with (charging any other way is often a violation of warranty). If you're within the warranty period, there is a chance the manufacturer will take the blame and send you a new one. If that doesn't work out, I'd look into the terms of the Sprint insurance. This isn't necessarily some kind of user-induced damage. Saying it's stolen might cause problems, I think - they may want to make some sort of effort to track it down. If you are forced to get a new phone, I'd look into getting a Moto G. They really have very few compromises and retail for less than $200. They also get Android updates on an almost Nexus-like schedule.

    Serial Podcast

I just listened to all episodes on a very, very long drive. My thoughts can be summarized thusly: 1. He shouldn't be in prison. 2. I think he did it.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Want to know whats motivating? Drafting/scouting for your job I wonder if this is true - not the motivating aspect so much as whether it's best. If you need to maximize the likelihood that your guy doesn't bust and is successful right away, you may not be doing the best job. It's a risk-taking profession. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) I think that comes from people who are close to the situation. There are sources from within that are saying things like this. Lance Briggs walked out on him last year when he started ranting in the locker room and telling Gould to sit down and shut up because he was just a kicker. You think that is acceptable and not a cancer in anyway? I really havent decided myself on what I hope to happen with Marshall but if Pace has heard enough from the people on the team (believe he is going to do his research) that Marshall is a detriment and trade/release him I would be fine with that. They arent a playoff team for the next year anyway. Lance Briggs was a huge cancer to the team this year, so the way he interacted with Brandon is not very convincing to me. Nobody b****ed more, tried less, and actively undermined the new coaches more than Lance. Good riddance.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) well that makes me like him less. His job is to get the team to the playoffs and the Superbowl, not to appease meatheads. Who is to say there isn't a meathead who needs to be appeased in order to get hired?
  6. Jennings wasn't that bad this year and, while it's not a high achievement, was among the better defensive players this year
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2015 -> 09:10 PM) It is almost karma for Suh playing in this game. Yeah I don't feel sorry for them whatsoever
  8. I probably would not have traded for Samardzija and would have done whatever I could to not trade Semien if I had to trade for him. I also wouldn't have gone after Melky. I'd have gone harder after Hanley to be a corner OF at the price he went for and, if not, have looked to Nori Aoki to fill the hole in LF.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) Illinois sports are so irrelevant. Maybe the worst time in my life. (Born in 82). I'm a fan of Groce, but his clock is starting to tick
  10. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 05:25 PM) I never watched him play at Seton Hall, but I can't believe his jumper could have been this flat when he was there. I just can't imagine him shooting 40% from 3 with this same arc. I forget who said this but he absolutely looks like a guy who worked on his shot in the basement
  11. I like Black and actually think he's been underutilized today but that was just stupid. He's the sole front court player who might turn into a good player, but right now he's not there mentally. He's trying really hard and is making efforts to be a tough guy, which he is - but at the same time he's not ready for this speed either
  12. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) Who else do you play? Nunn hasn't been good either. I would much rather play Nunn at this point.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) It is stunning how bad Cosby has been. It is to the point I'm shocked when he makes a shot. His outside shot looks like Derrick Rose's...but worse
  14. Please tell me what Cosby has done to get all this playing time other than making a 30-foot turnaround three in the first half
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) That is a coaching issue at this point. Definitely, and he gives himself the problem of not being able to bench the guy because there's no depth. You might want to get through to him by benching him, but Maverick's going to kill you just as much by being a non-athlete
  16. Never thought I'd be yearning for the days of Chester Frazier at PG
  17. Also, Egwu may be the worst pick and roll defender I've ever seen. He doesn't understand how to do it whatsoever. He's just going to defend the guard no matter what.
  18. Well, Illini will miss the tourney again. Groce is in a position where just making the tourney next season might not save his job. Groce isn't getting the Xs and Os perfect, but this team just doesn't have enough good players on it. You have no decent true guard - both point guards are terrible and Cosby is worse. Nunn is okay but has reduced his offensive game to spot-up jump shooting. Egwu is still marginal, LeRon Black isn't mentally ready for this pace of play, and Maverick Morgan is awful. Hill looks like he's going to be great but he doesn't know how to assert himself in the offense. He's probably suffering from the PG play as well.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 11:58 PM) He is still quite young. In fact, he could repeat A+ yet again and STILL be on the young side for the level. Keep that in mind. Also, the key to me is, he fixed a LOT of things in 2014. Not all of them, but the fact that he made that many adjustments at that age is impressive, and makes it more likely in my view that he can continue improvements. I also disagree to a certain degree about a complete inability to recognize pitches. In the article I wrote in a similar vein in April for FutureSox, I found multiple videos (including one I took) where you could see him hitch to respond to offspeed and still mash. I think that particular part of Nathaniel's analysis was too strident towards the negative. He's still a T10 guy for me, though no longer T5, in this system. I've known several guys throughout my time in baseball who learned to ID offspeed pitches, but for whatever reason still had little ability to be disciplined on them. They'd be tickled s***less that they recognized the curveball, so they would swing without even realizing it was an unhittable location. I do wonder what level he'll start at in 2015. A+ would still seem appropriate, but it's hard to imagine any team having a player of his caliber repeat that level a third time. That's especially true when considering how small the SAL is.
  20. My main point regarding the speed issue is that I'm not fully convinced that he's been reduced to a one-tool player who will live and die solely with his bat. I don't see why he can't be a solid or better defensive player who doesn't have to be a well-rounded hitter to make it as a MLB regular.
  21. It is worth wondering whether there is any good reason for her to know any of her students' political affiliation in the first place, since she works in communication. Even so, educators have all kinds of reasons to be potentially biased. There's no way to be perfectly neutral. With that said, chances are that she rarely teaches/grades undergraduate students. She's a full professor and department chair at a top research university in a scientific discipline. She probably only works with grad students.
  22. It's weird to be an Illini fan in Columbus, Ohio. I'll root for OSU on the side so long as they pay my salary, though
