  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 04:28 PM) My condolences to the Reinsdorf family. I can hardly conceive what it is like for a parent to have to deal with the loss of a son or daughter even when that person might be 51. Just horrible. It sucks, speaking from experience, even when child had reached adulthood
  2. I'd want some indication that Derrick can shoot above 40% and play 60 games, but this could easily be right. I think a Rose-less Bulls with Carmelo is a title contender.
  3. I know a lot of Kings people think that Jimmer was mismanaged badly and that they may not have even glimpsed the kind of player he might be
  4. Difference between fastball and changeup speed isn't nearly as important as whether the changeup appears the same out of hand. Part of this means it can't be very different. For most starters, you want 8.5-9.5 mph separation between fastball and changeup. As it gets slower, hitters notice that it's slower. As it's faster, they of course don't notice because it is too fast but they hit it anyway (but not always). I remember a graph of BAA for Tim Lincecum's changeup by speed differential of previous fastballs. 11mph? .400. 7mph? .400. 8-9mph? .150
  5. Joakim Noah since Jan 2: 13.6 pts, 13.2 boards, 1.8 blocks, 1 steal, 6 assists, .492 FG% The production at position for the dollar for Joakim is among the best deals in the NBA IMO

    Batting 2nd

I'm okay with that, puts our two young righties in between two lefties
  7. Bulls making a statement last night, taking a defensive s*** on GS
  8. Of course, Flowers tested positive 8 years ago for god knows what
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) The crazy thing is that is better than what the Mets got in Santana+contract. Definitely worth pointing out. Minnesota got some crap players but a lot of cash savings compared to what they would have had to pay otherwise ... of course they wouldn't have done that, so they should be happy to have gotten anything
  10. If any or all of Beckham, Gillaspie, Keppinger can get us JP Murphy, I'd be down for that. I wouldn't start Semien at 2B if that position ends up vacated, though. Needs more AAA time. If he has his K rate down and BB rate back up in AAA in May, that's his time to shine
  11. McCown will be the epitome of an insurance plan for the Bears. If he's signed and Cutler plays every game, we'll all be b****ing about the amount we gave McCown that could fixed X position. If he's signed and Cutler gets hurt, we'll say we would have been willing to pay even more to not have our season automatically go down the drain. If he's not signed and Cutler gets hurt, we'll b**** and moan about how Emery was too tight with his cash. If he's not signed and Cutler is healthy, we won't notice his absence and will have a false sense of security for the future.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) Move all the military money/jobs to building roads and schools. People don't like that stuff. Especially education spending. Too much hostility towards teachers.
  13. Seems like the state is only not governable if you're a Republican like the petitioner
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) Bernie Pleskoff ‏@BerniePleskoff 32m In Fort Myers today, Johann Santana threw in the high 70's and touched 81 in front of scouts from 7 clubs. Also threw his changeup. For once, Johan and I have something in common

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) After riding public transit for the better parts of 15 years, SWA just reminded me of boarding a train. The people who get there early, get the best seats. People who board later miss out. As a person who is chronically late, this is why I don't like the free for all, lol

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) I prefer southwest because I like being able to sit where ever I want. That's a major appeal to me. I was pissed when I flew delta and was told by someone that I was sitting in their seat (didn't know delta assigned seats), and I eneded up having to fly from LaGuardia to Midway next to a creepy middle-aged man wearing daisy dukes. I'm not joking, this was actually the same day that michael jackson died, everyone were finding out he died when people were turning their cell phones back on after landing. See, this is why I don't like Southwest. I want to know where I'm sitting before I buy the ticket rather than leaving it to chance. I've had the best experiences with United, including a last-minute change of reservations due to delay, but I don't fly much.
  17. Whenever I watch Manziel, I find myself thinking "does not translate"
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) There is Jacob May as well. What is interesting, is that one of the lineup features the starters. CF Eaton SS Ramirez RF Garcia DH Dunn 1B Abreu LF Viciedo 3B Davidson C Flowers 2B Beckham Could this be the lineup March 31st? The only thing that sticks out to me is Davidson, who could start out in Charlotte. I think I made this exact lineup my preferred lineup earlier in the offseason. As for Gillaspie, I'd be trying to turn him into a guy that can play 2B. I don't see anything athletically or skill-wise missing, just has to learn double play footwork to be adequate enough to fill in there occasionally.
  19. Urlacher was the ultimate combine warrior 6'4", 258 4.59 40 (ran a 4.49 too, they pick your median time), 27 reps of 225 bench press, 34" vertical, 122" broad jump, 4.18 20yd shuttle, 6.94 three-cone Of OLB, he had the longest broad jump, 5th best 40, best bench reps, 2nd best three cone. Was tied for second tallest and weighed more than all others. If you put him up against ILB at that combine, he would have won every single category, including height and weight.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) It should be an industry that matures into a low profit margin area quickly. There are no barriers to entry, and it is a low cost sector. It won't be hard to undercut pricing to levels that cut margins down to very low levels. It isn't like there are high labor, high entry, or high production costs here. Honestly...now that you mention it, this is going to become free and ad-supported.
  21. Even though things like WAR are going to be far less influenced by things like luck than are simpler metrics, they are not projections or predictions. And, of course, even projections are only so helpful: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...ng-projections/
  22. There was an episode of Vice about escaping from NK. No way you can get to SK through the DMZ, so you have to escape into China, then make a >2000 mile trek to Laos undetected, and then finally cross a river into Thailand where you will be arrested, but at least be recognized as a refugee. China and Laos will send you back to NK where you will be killed. Escaping will, in all likelihood, result in the murder of your family. If you're a woman escaping into China, chances are one of the couriers/brokers you run into to try to get you to NK will sell you into sex slavery instead. An activist they work with said that 80% of female escapees spend some amount of time in sex trade.
  23. I'm interested in how it all can work out. Since Reagan, we've used military spending as stimulus. It will be interesting to see how much we can remove from the defense budget without putting people out of work.
  24. It seems to me that cloud storage should have wonderfully high margins if you want it to
