  1. In terms of teammates stealing one's scoring potential, I wouldn't so easily discount the Westbrook effect. Shaq in LA - 18.5 FGA/G Westbrook, last 3 seasons - 18.2 FGA/G Then again, Shaq has a big advantage in FTA/G at 10.8 to 7, which shows that he often had the ball, tried to shoot, but was hacked. Of course, Shaq was no point guard. Kobe had the ability to keep the ball from Shaq but the inverse wasn't all that true. Throughout Westbrook's career, his propensity (or perhaps lack thereof) to steal shots from KD has been hotly debated. Seems like only these types of conversations evoke the "Shaq holding back Kobe's scoring" debate when the opposite debate was going on when they played together.
  2. My experience at games was that they didn't hate Dunn too much. He's your best chance at seeing a homer, which is the best thing that can happen as a fan
  3. A less contentious and perhaps more easily measured question -- what caliber of scorer are we talking about w/ KD? Is he the best since Jordan (that would mean better than Kobe)?
  4. http://www.androidcentral.com/motorola-may...-badly-it-seems Google buys Motorola for $12.5 billion Google values Moto patents at $5.5 billion, which are retained and licensed to Lenovo Google transfers $2.9 billion in cash from Motorola to Google Google sells set-top division to Arris Group for $2.35 billion Moto racks up nearly $2 billion in operating losses during Google ownership At this point, things don't look so bad, though they clearly seem to have taken a loss. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/09/01/go..._with_mobility/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/20...le-1-5-billion/ They've made a buttload of money on tax losses, which many speculate is the only reason they really wanted Moto in the first place. I haven't seen anyone speak authoritatively on this, but some seem to think that keeping those patents will give them the right to continue benefiting from those losses until 2019
  5. Just remember that as "meh" of a hitter as Andrus is, Leury pretty much hasn't even matched Andrus's MLB production in the minors
  6. A guy that isn't afraid of standing up to Frank Thomas and Nolan Ryan shouldn't need a whole lot of help in getting respect from players
  7. I like accepting that he's getting our money no matter what. So let's quit sweating about how his play measures up to his salary. As a player in a vacuum, he's a real nice to have. If he was a FA coming from the Mets, we'd be excited to pick him up and see what happens. I'm glad we have perhaps the most powerful LH hitter in baseball in our lineup to stick in the middle of a bunch of very young right handed sluggers. That he's a good guy only makes it easier to be a fan.
  8. Good. Our ballpark deserves some love as it is really excellent. I love it there. It has come a long way in the past 10 years too
  9. Buy a VPN-enabled router, buy MLB.tv, profit???
  10. I'm really surprised about them selling it like that. On one hand, I'm not surprised that Google didn't really want to have a fully-fledged hardware company. That's not really their deal. Margins are not high enough. But why take what looks like a loss, even with them keeping some patents and selling the set-top box separately? Most analysts saw Motorola as a company that was really on the rise and I agree. Moto X is a good phone that had a really right-headed development philosophy, focusing on end user-oriented software improvements over benchmarking. The Moto G has to be a contender to completely dominate the low end market. Why sell now?
  11. that's the dumbest thing I've ever read. Yoga may have been an uninviting environment for that woman, but I have a feeling it had more to do with the "fat" than the "black." Might have had something to do with the gawking assholes too
  12. I think we are reading into the "I won't recruit" stuff more than we should
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Hall of Famer, Indians hat. No question. This. I love him as a player, I'm very glad he has stayed affiliated to the Sox, but I can hardly feel correct in claiming him as a White Sox.
  14. You'd probably miss more than half. You could look into getting a VPN to hide your location and then just getting MLB.tv, but of course you are adding another subscription cost
  15. "I will do what I can to help our workers" = "I will raise the federal workers' minimum wage to $10.10 as I perform my Constitutionally-directed duty to run the administration"
  16. Stoltz is a great resource for SAL guys, but as you say, he tends to end up being overexuberant about them compared to other players
  17. I hope their grad students organize before I arrive
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) ports Pics ‏@TheSportPics 2h Floyd "Money" Mayweather is reportedly betting $10.4 million on the Denver Broncos winning the Super Bowl. pic.twitter.com/duZkb4S9Ar Floyd doesn't f*** around with his cash. He must feel very strongly about the result of this game
  19. Based on my experiences at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament, Derrick Rose has no problems kissing a fat girl sober
  20. I like that the art of team building involves preparing for all kinds of contingencies that are broderline random - weather, injuries, etc
  21. My generic lineup against most righties and lefties CF - Eaton (L) SS - Alexei RF - Garcia DH - Dunn (L) 1B - Abreu LF - Viciedo 3B - Davidson C - Flowers 2B - Beckham I'm torn over whether I want to flip Dunn and Abreu. The best thing about having Dunn in the middle of this lineup is it takes away the other team's ability to bring in a really tough RH reliever and mow through all those young righties. Another setup I kinda like is Avi batting second w/ Abreu batting third, Dunn fourth, Viciedo, Davidson, Ramirez, Flowers, Beckham. I'm imagining that we get rid of Keppinger but are unable to trade ADA for the purposes of this conjecture. Bench: Konerko - DH, 1B Gillaspie (L) - 3B, 2B, 1B, LF ADA (L) - LF, CF, RF Nieto (S) - C QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) .280/.350/.481/.831 is not tearing up the minors, especially the PCL. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/l...amp;id=3219ab1a He posted a 117 wRC+, which is league adjusted FWIW. 108 wRC+ in MLB. His wRC+ was right about exactly where guys like Kolten Wong and Chris Owings were
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) The left swipe for Google Now is nice, but I can't live without the customization on Nova. I get the transparent status bar and navigation bar with Nova, that's enough for me to not use GEL. Yeah, chances are that I will end up returning to Nova after a while. I'd been using a fairly heavily customized setup on Nova, so switching back to something more vanilla is nice. I'll probably get bored of that soon enough and come back to Nova or use one of my custom ROM's Sense themes
  23. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 12:10 AM) Awesome. I wish I had an Eric Daze jersey. He was my favorite Hawk growing up. I came across a website selling those reallllllyyyy cheap when I was shopping post-2010 SC
  24. If you know you'll have pitching depth to trade from a year from now, why sign a guy? Just have your pitching depth and your money and there is no need for trades
  25. To me, the main thing Wong has (other than LH bat, which is important) is not so much talent as it is track record. Semien's never been bad, but he's only spent a few months on the legitimate prospect radar. Too much uncertainty.
