  1. Well I was questioning the decision to put Ellard in there, but looking at all the options available, I guess it's not as crazy as it first seemed. Had two lefties coming up, so I see why you'd want to go for a lefty. You have Peralta available, although he pitched last night. And you have Shuster who is horrible. Besides that, you have Anderson, Toussaint, Steven Wilson likely available but having to pitch against two lefties to start the inning.
  2. I saw a trade graphic on Twitter claiming the Sox received cash considerations in the deal. Can anyone confirm?
  3. Would be nuts to pigeonhole this kid at DH already. But with this brain trust, I can't rule out the possibility that it's the plan
  4. One way to save money is to not light $4.5M on fire by giving it to the likes of Martin Maldonado
  5. Yeah I suspect he will be up very soon given the state of the roster
  6. Shocked we got what is probably a useful major leaguer for Eloy. From FanGraphs:
  7. Some Statcast numbers on McGough in AAA:
  8. I guess that's fine. Wish things would have worked out with him, I still think he's a fun and good person.
  9. Getz trying to make deals but getting a busy signal from the GMs talking with the Marlins
  10. I think the return for Fedde remains better than for Richards and Scott. Of course, it should have been and even moreso than it is.
  11. I could imagine Brebbia not drawing any offers at this point.
  12. 3B or LF/RF I would think. He seems to have the arm strength for RF, per the limited Statcast data
  13. Tired: Grifol shouldn't have said that Wired: Player(s) shouldn't have pissed themselves hearing someone say this to them
  14. FWIW, Fangraphs has these guys as 40+, 40+, 40, and <35 (unranked). And they all seem to be having bad seasons, although that is at least somewhat factored into those grades which were just updated.
  15. Not to defend this boob, it sounds like this wasn't offered as serious analysis but as something motivational for the players (whether it would motivate, IDK). Sort of a rah rah buckle up and keep your name out of the history books kind of thing
  16. Come on now, about a third of these are shitposts ?
  17. Two pitchers with 6+ ERA, two guys who can't hit ?
  18. I think the main reasons they signed DeJong are: 1. Hoped to flip him at deadline 2. Someone they wouldn't mind benching/moving/trading if Montgomery played well enough to get to MLB 3. Try to make sure they field a roster that wouldn't be historically bad Of course, it's hard to be too upset about the DeJong parts of the equation all things considered.
  19. The difference between his actual and expected production in '24 is not enough for me to strongly discount it in such a small sample size. Especially given his high pull rate this season, which tends to be a ticket for outperforming your expected stats.
  20. I'm not too mad about how this worked out, but part of the reason I wasn't enthused about DeJong is I never thought the signing had much more upside than this. He has never been a great player, he has flaws and continued to have those limitations in spite of rebuilding his value with the Sox. I'm not sure who else was out there and how they turned out, but my preferred reclamation projects are guys with something a little more substantial to reclaim
  21. Colas didn't have near the level of consensus that Vargas had from evaluators and also has little track record of good play. Colas has only tanked his value since his high watermark in the rankings. Vargas had a tough run in MLB, then killed AAA pitching, and has held his own in a second cup of coffee in MLB. And is younger with more positional versatility and by all accounts, doesn't have s%*# for brains like Colas.
