  1. There is no way to assume that betting on games he played in didn't affect the way he played in those games.
  2. I don't really care about the Red Sox because we got a better player in return than we ever seriously thought we'd get. I'm happy for the Tigers to have been fleeced.
  3. Sox. We're not only closer now with excellent pitching (including depth) and a few young pieces on offense, but our front office has actually shown a willingness to win. Theo will probably hand out a bad contract to an offensive player this offseason but never actually make moves that make them a winning club.
  4. lol, they say that like all three of those things are the same and as if all of them are related to the murder
  5. Also, Granderson has been really bad in CF for a while
  6. It would be a bad idea to do anything but Viciedo-ADA-Garcia

WAR accounts for the ballpark you play in
  8. He won't be Ditka, but when I think of 2005 I think of him fondly. I don't think of him fondly in the present, though I've been softening on that lately. I think he got a rough taste of reality on his way out of Miami.
  9. Leesman definitely has the inside track to be LOOGY next year

I've never been a big fan of Headley and acquiring him is making less and less sense over time
  11. I'll give him time. He hit righties really, really well this year in AAA
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) Just to note...MLB may discipline or advise or issue statements to umpires but they do not make umpire disciplines public knowledge. And rightly so. There are enough forces out there that make fans doubt umpires. Might as well not add fuel to the fire.

Rienzo and Snodgress would probably be about the right price for Headley
  14. Let's be clear about something - 150 more homers for Dunn is hardly a given. He's been fairly consistent throughout his career (extreme consistency, then a horrid year, then decent years) and relatively healthy, but things change fast...especially when you're drug free in your mid-30s. It looked like ARod was going to demolish the HR record and he even had the drugs. Very important to emphasize that Dunn's HoF chances are highly hypothetical.
  15. He's been really good. If he keeps it up long enough to hit 600 bombs, I don't know how you could deny him entry. I don't think he'll hit 600.
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) ~5.75" Which is actually quite hilarious and a highlight of how flawed and bad the BMI scale is...it thinks I'm "overweight" with a BMI of 25.4 (overweight category), which is laughable. 5.75 inches????
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) It's food you're paying 5-10x more than what the ingredients are worth. I didn't say any of those things were bad for you, I said they were a waste of money. The price of a Quest bar isn't obscene for a food with 20g protein and a ton of fiber -- in this case, customer is willing to pay more for having it come in a package as well. A decently priced protein powder will be a dollar or less per serving, which brings you to the point where it is cheaper than an equivalent amount of meat...especially when whey is higher in leucine content than something like chicken and is thus more efficient in terms of how much protein it takes to maximize muscle protein synthesis. Everything has its use. Can't underrate convenience in particular
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) Meh. All of these bars, powders, drinks, and vitamins are a waste of money. It's just food. Nothing magic about it short of the fact the macronutrient profile is ... magical. To me, food is the worth the money
  19. Dunn leads the White Sox in HR, RBI, wRC+. and is 2nd in OBP. f*** him!!!!!!
  20. ARod is no saint, but I've been angered quite a bit more by the Braun revelations.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) Then why is this coming up now? If he's supposed to pull everything and that's the smart approach, and the one recommended by hitting coaches, then why change now ... after the Sox are 30 games out of first place or whatever they are? Perhaps he changed. The approach may be fine but it may be the case that the 33 year old Dunn doesn't have all the same strengths and weaknesses that the one that earned that shift did.
  22. I don't know many real statheads that think highly of bWAR.
  23. Most guys like Dunn are encouraged to not try to hit through the shift by their coaching staffs
