  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) As dumb as a play that was that De Aza made you have to admit he had a much better chance of being throw out at home than on the Rios one. That was a pretty shallow shot to center and Jackson didn't dive. Chances are if he goes a good throw nails him by plenty. This is a relevant point

    Dunn...

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) 15 mil off the books is value...at least to me. It's not to me when there is no chance that it is spent
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) I can admit it might be a fluke if you can admit it's possible he's made some adjustments that have served him well. Yeah, he might be better than he was at some of the times he really struggled in the minors. He's still not a .300 or even .280 hitter, though, and also lacks both power and speed. Lots of pressure on his glove
  4. On the bright side, ADA has correctable errors. You can't fix what is wrong with the likes of Paulie
  5. If you don't pull ADA because you have already used one of your OF subs, you'd sure want to sit him tomorrow
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) We'll see about that . In his 1st 2 games 2/6 Hr and 2 RBI's . He has a long track record in minor league baseball of being a horrible hitter. Be patient. When a guy is batting .202 in Triple-A and .237 for his career in minor league ball and gets called up and starts hitting...this should scream "fluke" to you
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) Wow, how does no one get fired for this? Shouldn't Ventura bench De Aza for that if he wants to send a message? We'll see. I know he normally likes to deal with things quietly but that one is pretty bad
  8. See, that play is different than the Rios one. It was clearly being caught from the get-go
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) Meaning he's done more for the Tigers than Garcia has for the White Sox so far. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about how Iglesias is a bad hitter. Garcia is not a bad hitter
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Kind of like the Sox and Garcia. No...?

    8/4 Games

    Recchia 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 8 K 1.45 ERA on season
  12. Tigs fans, get used to Iglesias not getting any hits for you when you need them
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 01:59 PM) Rios looked like he had concrete shows on We had to have aligned in the worst way for that play. We've seen Jackson make catches over there, so I have to assume we played Danks in the wrong gap
  14. Stoney calls an 85mph cutter a curveball. f***ing idiot

    Dunn...

Just keep him. He makes the team more watchable and he isn't blocking anyone. He'll probably have a lot of value at next year's deadline when his contract isn't a problem.
  16. Seems like a buyout with deferred money is what both sides would like. Lower the yearly cost for the Yankees while being able to dump ARod, ARod gets his money and out of the public eye
  17. Dunn has definitely figured something out. You can see how he's done much better at adjusting his approach to the situation, count, and pitcher. Early in his career here, including last year, it seemed like he was indiscriminately trying to hit a homer
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) I can't argue against what you are saying. But, the weakness in the OF is Viciedo and I am not sure this year is just a slump or not. Rios is most likely gone so do they keep De Aza and move him to a corner spot? Or keep Viciedo in the OF hoping he improves wiht the bat? If Rios is gone, they will almost certainly leave Tank in the OF. If he does not make a clear step forward next year, he'll be playing somewhere else in 2015
  19. Even if we were in a mad dash to compete in 2014, it doesn't seem to me that the 2014 class of FA suits our needs well. If I was trying to make big investments to improve this team quickly, I'd be buying a 1B, 3B, and C. There's pretty much 1 1B, 1 C, and no 3B in this class of FA.
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) The middle infield next year will more than likely be Beckham/Semien with Gillaspie as part of a platoon at third. Garcia will take one outfield spot, so that leaves an outfield spot and 1B as the other places to upgrade offensively. I'd rather take on a contract than sign a free-agent as I think the few guys who are on the market this year will get grossly overpaid. Since you're assuming Rios is gone, it makes more sense to leave Tank in LF and find a 1B that can bop
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) You keep citing Alexei's WAR but don't acknowledge it's entirely based on his defense, since he's been a negative value hitter. Defensive metrics are still way too sketchy IMO and his overall value is likely inflated as a result. That's not to say he's a bad player, but let's not use WAR as gospel, especially when we're talking about a defensive-oriented player. I cited his offense too which is not a negative value, it is 18th among shortstops that have 250 PA or more. Also, UZR is not sketchy, particularly with Alexei who has been playing for several years and thus has a suitable sample from which to judge. His defense is extremely valuable and your eyes as well as the statistics bear that out. While today's blunder probably pisses you off, his speed on the bases along with his basestealing adds to his value as well. Our infield is the problem and it is not solved by removing the best infielder
  22. Do not fear, I promise you that Jose Iglesias actually sucks at hitting
