  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Kind of like the Sox and Garcia. No...?

    8/4 Games

    Recchia 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 8 K 1.45 ERA on season
  3. Tigs fans, get used to Iglesias not getting any hits for you when you need them
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 01:59 PM) Rios looked like he had concrete shows on We had to have aligned in the worst way for that play. We've seen Jackson make catches over there, so I have to assume we played Danks in the wrong gap
  5. Stoney calls an 85mph cutter a curveball. f***ing idiot

    Dunn...

Just keep him. He makes the team more watchable and he isn't blocking anyone. He'll probably have a lot of value at next year's deadline when his contract isn't a problem.
  7. Seems like a buyout with deferred money is what both sides would like. Lower the yearly cost for the Yankees while being able to dump ARod, ARod gets his money and out of the public eye
  8. Dunn has definitely figured something out. You can see how he's done much better at adjusting his approach to the situation, count, and pitcher. Early in his career here, including last year, it seemed like he was indiscriminately trying to hit a homer
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) I can't argue against what you are saying. But, the weakness in the OF is Viciedo and I am not sure this year is just a slump or not. Rios is most likely gone so do they keep De Aza and move him to a corner spot? Or keep Viciedo in the OF hoping he improves wiht the bat? If Rios is gone, they will almost certainly leave Tank in the OF. If he does not make a clear step forward next year, he'll be playing somewhere else in 2015
  10. Even if we were in a mad dash to compete in 2014, it doesn't seem to me that the 2014 class of FA suits our needs well. If I was trying to make big investments to improve this team quickly, I'd be buying a 1B, 3B, and C. There's pretty much 1 1B, 1 C, and no 3B in this class of FA.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) The middle infield next year will more than likely be Beckham/Semien with Gillaspie as part of a platoon at third. Garcia will take one outfield spot, so that leaves an outfield spot and 1B as the other places to upgrade offensively. I'd rather take on a contract than sign a free-agent as I think the few guys who are on the market this year will get grossly overpaid. Since you're assuming Rios is gone, it makes more sense to leave Tank in LF and find a 1B that can bop
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) You keep citing Alexei's WAR but don't acknowledge it's entirely based on his defense, since he's been a negative value hitter. Defensive metrics are still way too sketchy IMO and his overall value is likely inflated as a result. That's not to say he's a bad player, but let's not use WAR as gospel, especially when we're talking about a defensive-oriented player. I cited his offense too which is not a negative value, it is 18th among shortstops that have 250 PA or more. Also, UZR is not sketchy, particularly with Alexei who has been playing for several years and thus has a suitable sample from which to judge. His defense is extremely valuable and your eyes as well as the statistics bear that out. While today's blunder probably pisses you off, his speed on the bases along with his basestealing adds to his value as well. Our infield is the problem and it is not solved by removing the best infielder
  13. Do not fear, I promise you that Jose Iglesias actually sucks at hitting
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) Probably the first time all year strength and Alexei were used in the same sentence. When Travis Wood has the same amount of home runs as your double play combination, you are in definite need of an increase in production at those positions. I'm talking about overall value. Not only does Alexei lead us in WAR, he ranks 13th in WAR among all MLB SS. No other position on our team ranks in the top half. 18th in wRC+, which is pretty good on our team.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 11:58 AM) Value is what you worry about when you are trading with teams. I'd like him to play wherever he gives the team the best chance to win in the future. Value is what I worry about for us. It's easier to find a RF that can hit than it is a CF that can hit. If Garcia hits in CF, it's easier to improve the offense than if he hits in RF. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) Mike Trout is 6'2" 230 and he plays a gold glove CF. Jake, you've watched the past few games, any early reports on his D? I haven't seen too much definitively. Camera work is hit and miss. The way he moves is kind of awkward to me, it seems, but I haven't seen him really be challenged. He looks fast as he runs the bases though, I was surprised with how natural and smooth his gait is.
  16. Our OF is the strength of our team, other than SS. I'm happy to increase production there, but I don't like Ethier. He's basically a LH Rios who makes more money and has fewer tools.
  17. Logic tells us that taller people will have more reach. How large an impact that reach makes is unknown to me, but you often see plays where you might think, "that throw would be an error if the first baseman were shorter." I don't know how many throws that comes into play, but it certainly matters sometimes
  18. I'd like him to play wherever he has the most value. If he can be an average CF'er, or even just a little below average, he may be more valuable than he would be as an average to above rightfielder.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 07:22 PM) Can we name em? Braun in the 12 or 12 others? ARod Cruz Melky Gio Peralta Colon I don't believe Gio was expected to be suspended
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 08:53 PM) They gave the SS an error Ah, I see. The cameraman did a s***ty job on the play so I thought that might have been what happened
  21. Wilkins single on a liner that goes off the pitcher's mitt. Scalded.
  22. Avisail ripped a single through the middle for an RBI
