LOL I'd take Machado in a minute, but they could never sell that to the fanbase

Never would have happened with Peavy!

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:40 AM) I disagree. Unless we're really, really close on something (medicals), I'd start him. I think we give up some leverage by holding him out. Starting him sends a message to other teams that we're willing to move on with him in our rotation if we don't get solid offers. Hahn's first sign of weakness, IMHO. Yeah, I found this odd with how good he had done with his pokerface -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) 5%? what does that even mean and how did you come up with that number? We'll still get Middlebrooks, they'll just cut off one of his thumbs -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 06:42 AM) We don't have the details, but my guess is something like this: For the rest of the regular season, If Crain pitches in 0-9 games, Sox get cash only and no player If Crain pitches in 10-19 games, Sox get player X at the end of the season If Crain pitches in 20+ games, Sox get players X and Y at the end of the season TB has to agree not to trade players X and Y to anybody else for the rest of the season. Keith Law speculated on BBTN that if he doesn't pitch or hardly pitches, we'll get 25K or something just to make it technically a trade with the commissioner's office

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 02:28 AM) This topic would not be complete wiith out the many who called him Crainwreck. I'm honestly shocked with how little I heard that while he was here.

163V/161Q today in Joliet. Verbal was the lower range of what I was hoping for, quantitative was at the high end. Most schools in my field don't give two s***s about GRE scores (Communications/Media Studies/Film Studies), but it's nice to have a decent enough score that it shouldn't raise any flags. Especially since I go to a small liberal arts school and thus have a non-amazing GPA (3.75), it's all about just hedging bets. My money will be made on SOP, LOR, and writing sample though. My work experience in TV probably helps too.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:26 PM) I think he was traded around 4 PM for a night game so just about. I can't see Peavy making his start tomorrow. I'd warm his ass up on TV, at the least -

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:24 PM) Anyone else giving up on today? Seems like the smart bet. Wasn't Garza scheduled to pitch until the very last instant? -
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) FWIW, Boston's message board applauds the Rays' trade of Crain and seem disappointed they could not do the same. Easy to say when it seems like the trade was for nothing

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) So you wouldn't consider Tavares, Martinez, Wacha, Adams, Wong and Blazek for him? Adams-Wong-Tavares and a couple lesser regarded guys would do it for me...maybe I'd have to have Martinez too. Chris is just one guy. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 07:59 PM) I think what we have all learned from this fiasco is that Jake sucks at Spanish comprehension Maybe he doesn't know the difference between Cleveland and Charlotte They're both "C"

Spanish would be an extremely easy language for a Portuguese speaker to learn. They are more similar than any language is to English -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 06:21 PM) What mixed signals? You either pay a fair price or you don't get the player. The White Sox don't have to trade Peavy. If the offers aren't there you can trade him in the winter or keep him and try to win next year. I don't understand why a price being considered too high is being called mixed signals. I think it is a pretty clear signal. Well, we can't know if the Sox were moving the goalposts or what -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) If I could stay Chicago would be my #1. After that its not really specific order but San Fran, San Diego or LA. But my #1 by far would be Chicago. Chicago would definitely be in my top 3, if not top 2. All subject to change repeatedly as I travel and move around, though

I don't think Peavy not making this season's starts necessarily affects his trade value. It affects his actual value, but I don't know that it means much in terms of trade return. The trade deadline, on the other hand, could be the best impetus for a great return in trade though. -
Dude probably called home to mommy before he was supposed to

It is still relatively common for a pitcher to never be right again after TJS. Maybe 1 out of 20. It's not a no-risk endeavor -
Guys like Melton tend to fizzle out pretty early in their careers. I don't mind taking it year by year with him

I was the opposite. I haven't done any quantitative work in any way, shape, or form since high school and hadn't done the basic algebra, geometry, etc since I was a freshman in high school. That's a long ass time. I've had to relearn a lot of math and I'm still not going to be much better than 50th percentile in quantitative.
