Choosing which marginal benefit you like today determines which things receive more development over time. For instance, while SD card slots are cool, they are becoming less and less common because customers apparently have other priorities.

Rios has value. More specifically, he has value to acquire things we covet and cannot buy with money - young players. In most cases, these young players will simply become roleplayers. However, the beauty of young players is that occasionally you get a true star. We can't go take his salary and buy a cornerstone without considerable risk. While the risk of a young player not working is very real, you're not out any money when it happens. Trade Rios (now or in the offseason) - get young players, if they don't work out, take the money and try to buy replacements Let Rios go for nothing - get money, either leave it in the pocket of the owner or try to buy replacements Would rather have two chances to get production (trade) or one (release)?

I liked him

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) I get that there's value in having the 2nd pick compared to the 5th pick, but there's also value in players like Quintana, Santiago, Viciedo, Beckham, Jones, Reed, etc., playing well and gaining confidence through winning games. Even though there is no short-term benefit in winning games, please don't act like there isn't still some value. If nothing else, having the young guys play well and produce some exciting baseball helps next year's ticket sales a bit. Yeah, let's at least win for the paying fans. Show Chicago that the team is worth paying for and watching.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) Ben Zobrist maybe? I had noticed some similarities there in the past too. I don't know if I've found the perfect comparison player yet

I think Quintana's PED use has been more a hindrance to his MLB success than a help. His story is probable, but it doesn't even matter. We know he's been tested a lot and has been tested this year. If he's still using, he'll be caught soon. If not, then it looks like he is a damn fine pitcher without them and hasn't accomplished much with PEDs yet much more without them.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) They are already tanking with the current roster Yeah, it seems like changing could only make them better anyway

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 08:12 AM) Wasn't he throwing in the high-80's when he was last called up? He's down like 6-7 mph from a year ago, maybe more. He reached as high as 92 in his first outing, sitting at 89-90. Next outing 87-89, and by the time he left it was 86-88. Very strange. He often was pitching with a great deal of rest, too

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 08:03 AM) Mike Recchia, discussed earlier, is indeed 24 in A-ball. Indy signing. But... he's got a low-mid 90's FB (touches 95), three other pitches for strikes consistently, slider with movement good enough to be remarked on by two different people I've seen. He's got more K's than innings, and his walk rate his very low, making his K:BB somewhere in the vicinity of 7:1. Holding batters under .200 AVG. This in his first year of affiliated ball. I wouldn't go saying he's a T25 guy or anything, but at the very least, he's a guy worth keeping an eye on. He's a prospect. Might be a serious steal from indy ball. And I'd guess he gets promoted soon. Yeah, all signs point to the bolded if they think he's for real. It's almost like how you treat a college prospect, where you start him low but ideally don't leave him there for long.

Veteran hitter most likely to be here for 2015 season

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 10:38 PM) By the 2015 Gordo will be 29 and Tank will be 27. They should be considered veteran as well based on service time hah Neither will be FA, which was my standard -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 08:56 PM) 2 HR for Michalczewski, his first 2 as a pro. With his strong walk rate and hopefully developing power, he's teasing his talent enough to make me optimistic about him. Yeah, it will be hard to know much about him for at least another year or so. Until then, we can all be very optimistic!

Simon Castro's last four batters: LHB HR, RHB fly ball to warning track in LF, LHB HR, RHB 2B

LOL I can only imagine how Soxtalk would be acting in 2015 if PK is still here (channeling Greg, who will call for the Ph.D of hitting to take the mantle of hitting coach) -
Tony Pena can still field like a shortstop, makes a really tough play to his right look easy
-
I'm guessing those three new names must not be anything exciting because there hasn't been much/any speculation as to who they are

4 pitches, 4 swings, strikeout for Avisail against Freddy Garcia. Hit a home run distance foul ball to the right side on the first pitch fastball, then chased three consecutive breaking balls away to strikeout

These broadcasters from Norfolk are absolutely dreadful. The play by play man sounds half-asleep, muttering through things while there is a very energetic analyst that hardly speaks and has no chemistry with the PBP guy

I like Webb, but I don't hold any relief prospect in especially high regard. I feel like there is such a low ceiling in terms of what good relievers are worth to your club. If we had someone that was as good at hitting as Crain was at relieving, we'd be in third place

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) I want to say "congrats," but that seems inappropriate. So, good luck! Haha, congrats is fine. I'm really taking this as good news.

I was recently diagnosed with adult ADHD. What a weight off of my shoulders. There are so many things that I do (and cannot do) that I have long felt were my character flaws and I am now realizing are explained by this disease and can be controlled with sensible treatment. I'm feeling very impatient about my upcoming appointments with my psychiatrist and counselor, but that's a symptom of ADHD too

I think that Thornton trade may become quite the theft

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) At 24 in low A, is he much of a prospect? And Jacobs with a sac fly. Not really, I'm just bored
