  1. I was thinking about this -- which veteran, only two of whom is under contract for that season (Keppinger, Alexei), is the most likely to remain (or return, I suppose) here throughout the 2015 season? These are our offensive players who are past arbitration service time. My vote - Dunn. He has had a resurgence, it seems that other teams no longer value him as highly as they once did, and he blocks nobody in our minor leagues it seems. If we are preparing to have a competitive team in 2015, it may make sense for us to bring/retain our big LH bat in the DH spot. Of course, I think we can all agree that none of these guys are especially likely to be here....but that's not fun. What player and what scenario do you think results in that player staying here?
  2. If you want to have fun, go to baseball-reference and look at Detroit's salary commitments over the next 5 years. It is going to become near impossible for them to add to the team, especially as they have to re-up with Miggy and think about whether to keep VMart, Schezer, Fister, etc
  3. I love how they show him do the right thing and pause to see what happens, but then simply sees it incorrectly
  4. I think this team is on the same plan as the board is. TPSM
  5. I would have liked Iglesias if he was the second best player in the deal
  6. Wow, now that is bad managing by Leyland
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) I think he's got better speed than Garcia and we got Garcia playing CF. It's actually an interesting question as to who is faster. The consensus is that Iglesias is not fast, especially for a MIF. However, how slow does that make him compared to a "fast big guy" like Garcia? Garcia has definitely done a better job of stealing bases in the minor leagues and has a bit lower rate of GDP than Iglesias

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) How do you know that? Unless we're in the Cano hunt, how do you think we're going to add $50-70 million to the payroll next year?
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) As dumb as a play that was that De Aza made you have to admit he had a much better chance of being throw out at home than on the Rios one. That was a pretty shallow shot to center and Jackson didn't dive. Chances are if he goes a good throw nails him by plenty. This is a relevant point

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) 15 mil off the books is value...at least to me. It's not to me when there is no chance that it is spent
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) I can admit it might be a fluke if you can admit it's possible he's made some adjustments that have served him well. Yeah, he might be better than he was at some of the times he really struggled in the minors. He's still not a .300 or even .280 hitter, though, and also lacks both power and speed. Lots of pressure on his glove
  12. On the bright side, ADA has correctable errors. You can't fix what is wrong with the likes of Paulie
  13. If you don't pull ADA because you have already used one of your OF subs, you'd sure want to sit him tomorrow
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) We'll see about that . In his 1st 2 games 2/6 Hr and 2 RBI's . He has a long track record in minor league baseball of being a horrible hitter. Be patient. When a guy is batting .202 in Triple-A and .237 for his career in minor league ball and gets called up and starts hitting...this should scream "fluke" to you
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) Wow, how does no one get fired for this? Shouldn't Ventura bench De Aza for that if he wants to send a message? We'll see. I know he normally likes to deal with things quietly but that one is pretty bad
  16. See, that play is different than the Rios one. It was clearly being caught from the get-go
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) Meaning he's done more for the Tigers than Garcia has for the White Sox so far. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about how Iglesias is a bad hitter. Garcia is not a bad hitter
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Kind of like the Sox and Garcia. No...?
