  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) Eh not really, sometimes I guess. But how hard is it to learn the new location of a random button? I just don't get the big complaint. I don't get it either, I was just saying QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:39 PM) For a long phone like the HTC One, it should really be on the side of the phone. It's easier for everyone to press it. I don't like the idea of it being on the side. Very easy to accidentally press.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) Gotta agree with you on this point...how often do people actually use their damned power buttons. I reboot my phone maybe once a month, and it's the only thing I use the power button for. You don't use it to lock it?

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) From what was being reported, Alexei and Rios had very little value at the deadline. At the deadline, you have a very narrow market of suitors for most position players. The market is even narrower for guys making any money at mid-season. You have to hold on to these guys into the offseason at the least, where there are many more teams that feel they are about to compete and many more teams that are able to take on salary. Personally, I think there ought to be some sense of urgency to move Rios in the offseason, though again I'm not going to get nothing for him. With Alexei, since you more or less have an opening at third, I'd prefer to give Semien a trial at third. This gives you a chance to evaluate his bat at the big league level before you part ways with Alexei who is going to be difficult to replace if Semien cannot do it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) Anything of interest from his 3 at bats? Not really. Had a deep fly out on a very off balance swing, so I was surprised at his power. He looks like he knows the strike zone really well, which is unsurprising.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:16 PM) If a team wanted to pick up Alexei off waivers, and the Sox got nothing back, I'd be happy with that. Get this kid up and bring some new energy. No. Let him play 3B and hold on to the very valuable asset that is Alexei. We have nothing to gain by cutting payroll. We'll be in the bottom third of the league in payroll next year and if we lost one of our pricey vets, we'd be in the bottom 3-4 teams. Don't dump Alexei, the player who ranks highest on our team in WAR compared to others in the league at his position, just to save a few bucks. Somebody would take him, especially if we threw a few bucks in, for talent that can help us. I don't know why this board is obsessed with bringing up new guys to replace our best players without getting anything of value from the loss of those best players.

Another great play from Semien, ranging over the middle and making a tough throw on the run

Aforementioned play by Semien was with 1 out, men on the corners. hard ground ball towards the middle, he takes a couple steps and dives, catching the ball at full extension. On his stomach, he glove flips to Carlos Sanchez who finishes the DP

Semien just made a RIDICULOUS play, wow
  9. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 05:35 PM) No way. The other team loses the value of the veterans in the key 2 months of the season. We still should be able to move some of these guys along, but we won't get the same deal our way. That's assuming it was for veterans, and not for Sale, Quintanta, etc. Well it's just tough to say. Team X may still see position Y as a position of need heading into next year and would rather bark up our tree where we can provide discounts on already below-market contracts in exchange for their young guys/prospects that they deem expendable.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 03:29 PM) I was thinking this thread was about a permanent move starting next season. I'm all for doing it for the rest of this season. Well I don't know what they are thinking, but if they're practicing him there now I assume they'd like to at least start playing him there now. I don't see why they can't or wouldn't move him back to LF when/if we move Rios, though. Dayan isn't a good LF, but the stats tell us that he's not SO bad that he can't play out there. He's not far below replacement level defense as an OF and honestly it is possible that he costs us more runs as a 1B. I think/hope Hahn knows this.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 05:25 PM) Stone speculated about Dunn and Texas afterward. Not that that deal was available but just speculation. Stone also hammered the team and management pretty hard. He mentioned all of the moved that other teams made and then said when you add "Keppinger and Lindstrom" that isn't exactly getting it done. Yikes. We did the right thing. We played it carefully, knowing that it was likely or possible that last year may not be repeated - so we left ourself in a position where we could still blow it up. Our payroll situation is absolutely fantastic and you can thank Rick for that since he didn't blow his wad on free agents.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) I really wanna know what that last deal Hahn was close to making. Stone said it was a major deal, names just aren't out. Anybody wonder that? I'm more interested in whether this deal can be recreated in the offseason
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) It'd really suck to just make Dayan's arm totally useless. This isn't necessarily a permanent move, of course. It just buys you time with Rios so you don't have to just dump him to get Garcia ABs
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) It's kinda like, have you ever gone to play NBA Live after playing NBA 2K for a long time? You find out the button you think is the pass button and it's actually the shoot button and you end up heaving 70-foot shots? LOL yes or switching from Halo to COD
  15. It would be really cool if Dayan could play 3B I remember when we signed him and we were hearing that he used to be a great SS in the Cuban league
  16. Seems like a good enough way to get all of the young guys at bats. In the "we might win next year if everything goes right" scenario, we are much better off with Dunn at DH than at 1B
  17. I get the feeling that people are predicting that he'll be a 2B rather than SS because they don't know much about his defense and it is simply easier to predict the less optimistic outcome. I think he looks good at SS.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) I disagree. Career high at swinging at pitches out of the zone, identical walk rate, much less power. O-Contact is way up as is overall contact. "Much" less power is debatable. If he hits a homer today, his ISO is going to be pretty much identical. And this is without factoring in recent trends, in which we know he's been much better.
  19. I'm left-handed and hold it in my left and I kind of like where it is...not that I really think twice about it
  20. Carlos Sanchez is not dead as a prospect. He's very young and is dealing with a challenge assignment now. Let's give him a year or two.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) Can you give some examples of what he specifically did wrong last September? My impression was that it wasn't Ventura making mistakes as much as it was the team being exhausted. Quintana, Sale, and Peavy were all about the limit of innings they could humanly be expected to throw, and guys like Youkilis and Konerko were being run into the ground because they had no backups (to be fair of course, the backups for a lot of positions were traded away to get guys like Youk, so at least last year there was a good reason why the regulars were worn out). Basically, when your offense is horrible, the manager looks bad. Every offensive decision will look bad and anything that goes wrong with the pitchers will look much, much worse.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) Remember when Morel showed a lot of pop at the end of his rookie season? That didn't last long. Gillaspie has proven far more at the MLB level than Morel, thankfully
  23. I am totally dumbfounded as to what is wrong with the placement of the power button
  24. The point here is that there should absolutely no sense of urgency to move or bench Conor Gillaspie. As soon as there is a prospect that looks like a future 3B or there is a veteran 3B that can help you contend, that's when Conor becomes a bench player.
  25. Rodon could be different given that he will likely be perceived as near MLB-ready. The sooner a guy is in the show, the less a potential injury can harm you. When a guy spends 4 years in the minors, that injury could easily stunt his development. If a guy is dominating in MLB when he sustains that injury, chances are he still is valuable afterwards. With that said, if there was a Kris Bryant-type in the draft I'd probably jump on him
