  1. I don't think Ervin Santana should have anything to do with Peavy. He is a total wildcard. Jake is a CYA winner. Definite tier below
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales 17m RV didn't sound optimistic or pessimistic regarding Crain, believing he might have "broken some adhesions" from the layoff. I have no idea what that means
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) I could be wrong but I think teams would want to see him start one more time before pulling the trigger on a trade. It certainly may be, but it is important to keep in mind that he has already made 2 starts consecutively so the initial fears about his health should be gone.
  4. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 04:22 PM) If money is an issue with STL, we should pay Peavy's contract and take in more talent. I know it would never happen but to me it is entirely practical. We have more money than we will spend why don't we use it to create young talent. Ultimately, I think Jaker goes to Boston but I think the FO should do everything in their power to have Matt Adams as our OD first baseman next year. Whatever the cost. We're looking at next year being the first time in a long time that we don't have a franchise cornerstone power hitter at 1B. Between Big Hurt and PK, that's just been something we take for granted. We've also had guys like Robin, Maggs, C.Lee, Dye, etc. often present as other big bats. At this point, it looks like it will just be Dunn. Dunn is a fine middle of the order bat, but approaching mid-30s with an expiring contract isn't the type of thing I had in mind. If he was 25, that'd be great. I have to think our FO wants to find a mainstay power bat
  5. Teams are going to want him before he starts tomorrow, I would think. Definitely before his start on the 30th
  6. Heyman has been saying that GMs love Peavy while Olney has been saying that nobody likes his contract. In my experience, Heyman has always been more accurate. Others may disagree
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) Nathaniel Stoltz ‏@stoltz_baseball 33m Bristol 3B Trey Michalczewski has projection, isn't lost at the plate. Needs a lot of work to stay at third though. Didn't expect to hear that
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 01:03 PM) That's the article. I couldn't remember the time period so I just chose a big number and rolled with that. lol leave it to the earth scientist to correct me. That, and the "nutrients" I was referring to were "plankton," I remember this now
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) Really? Wow. I definitely read that they had way more on A-Rod. I thought that they only had a few notes about Braun from Biogenesis, nothing major. But if they have cycles and such about Braun, then A-Rod has to be f***ed. They do have more on A-Rod, but it has been indicated by TJ Quinn and others that MLB turned up much more than just notes on Braun as well.
  10. I'm worried about Cecchini's lack of power at the hot corner
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) A-Rod probably gave him permission b/c the Yankees are making up phony injuries trying to keep him from playing, and pushing the MLB to ban him/void his contract. They're going to lose. Good point
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) I read that in an article last year but of course I have no clue where to find it now. It's surprising how many direct descendants of slaves still live in the same place even after periods of major migration. Indeed. Sometimes they migrated, but only a short ways. Much of the black population in Memphis (where I live, the "blackest" major metro in the USA) migrated from the deep south.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) Those are the most fertile areas of the country. You can actually go all the way back to tens of thousands of years ago, to where nutrients settled into the soil on this continent. So that's where the heaviest concentration of slaves were. Iowa and Illinois want some recognition Corn n soybeans > you
  14. How can this doctor be allowed to speak publicly about his patient's health?
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 10:40 AM) Braun or A-Rod? Braun, though it sounds like they have that and more against A-Rod
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) There's also the new study that the NYT article was based on: http://www.equality-of-opportunity.org/ This appears to be the chance of any upward mobility at all for any quintile (other than the top, obviously). It's also by "communting zone," not county as I said above, and they did try correcting for cost-of-living differences but found no overall change. Looks a lot like maps of black population density Not that racism would have anything to do with income inequality
  17. Are there any broadcasters out there with the kind of personality that would make them a valid successor to the Hawk? With Caray and Hawk in our recent past, it wouldn't be right to just have some numb nuts like Len Kasper in the booth
  18. They're saying there was evidence of continued and cyclic use. I would say there's a decent chance the guy is juicing as we speak
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 08:52 AM) Making changes earlier in the year didn't make sense. There's nothing you gain by waving the white flag in May. I had a feeling at that point that the team wasn't going to turn it around and start winning, but if they do then you can look for ways to improve. If not, you are still taking calls and piecing together packages for guys you'll consider. There's been no problem waiting until July to make these moves. At some point very soon, the Sox will start making moves. There's literally no point in keeping Lindstrom either. They'll trade him, even if it's just for a guy. Oh, and I absolutely believe the Sox can win next year. If they make some creative moves and add some players offensively, the Sox have a pitching staff that will shut opponents down like crazy. This year feels quite similar to 2004 and especially 2007, and people wanted a full rebuild at that point. The Sox won the division the following season. Yep, and we don't have to win next year. We can very well not put all the chips in next year, hope for a stroke of luck that makes us compete, but otherwise prepare to make a run in 2015. No need for extended rebuilds, it's a silly strategy that is especially silly in our market with our payroll.
  20. I had posted this elsewhere, but every review of Gordon's shortstop defense from college all the way through the minors said he had everything you need to be a shortstop -- plenty of range, plenty of arm, athleticism, etc. Their only question was his hands and I think we can see at 2B that he actually has exceptional hands
  21. There is no debate that Peavy and Rios are better players with better contracts than Garza and Soriano
  22. Gordon is your shortstop if Alexei leaves. He'll do fine there. Let's not f***ing panic people
  23. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 10:59 PM) Need a PTBNL with that PTBNL is Greg Norton
  24. I'm highly skeptical of Garin Cecchini. Reeks of Ryan Sweeney to me.
