  1. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) Why have we consistently paid more and received less in trades for the last decade? Looking forward to your snarky response. Huh? KW has his wins and losses like any other GM, but we've had some big wins. Off the top of my head... Jeremy Reed, Miguel Olivo, Mike Morse for Freddy Garcia Freddy Garcia for Gavin Floyd, Gio Gonzalez Chris Carter for Carlos Quentin Joe Borchard for Matt Thornton Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda, Adam Russell, Dexter Carter for Jake Peavy McCarthy for Danks Esteban Loaiza for Jose Contreras Gary Majewski and Jon Rauch for Carl Everett Aaron Miles for Juan Uribe Those are all clear wins to me. Then there are ones like (receiving) Javier Vasquez deal that could be called a win, Jim Thome, Orlando Cabrera, Bartolo Colon, Carlos Lee all have solid arguments as to being potential wins or at least fair deals. We can argue about the net effect of all the trades put together, etc. but there is no consistently poor trading going on.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) Eh, that was a pretty fair price for Swisher. One near-MLB ready starter for a young power-hitter under team control for a long time, with a couple low-level pitchers. The problem wasn't that we paid beyond any reasonable price, the problem wound up being that Swisher and/or Ozzie was awful.
  3. Can we get Eaton and Owings from AZ? Throw Crain in for s***s and gigs? Eaton and Owings gives you a nice start to a quick rebuild.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) I think De Aza will fetch something good in return probably better than Rios. As far as Reed goes, I don't care about controllable years for a reliever, but that is what probably will add to his value. If they can get a better return for Reed than Crain they should do it. You'd think De Aza, being so inexpensive, could fetch something very nice. We sure aren't hearing about anything to that effect, though.
  5. Who knows what other conversations and consequences have gone on behind closed doors that led to this.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:15 PM) He has some pretty drastic splits, as he struggles vs LHP. Even getting him to be a platoon player would be a nice addition to the big league club. Check out his AA splits this year. Had been hitting lefties better than righties
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:46 PM) Search live tweets for Rios and it is so entertaining. over a tweet a second about him. Philly fans convinced they got him too. Jesus, why would Philly add that kind of salary?
  8. Sometimes you don't plan to pull a guy until he mouths off to you in the dugout
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:35 PM) balta made a great point about Rios not heading back to the dugout after the DP He went to RF, yes?
  10. I think Nate Jones is about to go hug some teammates
  11. Slick Rick may not be happy about the benching. Makes it painfully obvious that his attitude is a problem.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) I bet it's due to being pissed about him not running it out. Agree
  13. Wilkins getting very hot
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) I'm no longer riding that train. Why's that?
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) Good post on the Rios/Ramirez situation. I wouldn't mind Robin getting the boot in response to this joke of a season, but I am OK with him staying on during the rebuild. He's a nice guy and I am not violently against him. You don't seem like a violent person.
  16. Trade Winds forum: pissing in the wind until bucket or a national sportswriter shares information
  17. The likely result of a much lower K rate by Dunn would be that the Ks would be replaced by ground balls and his success rate on grounders is horrible.
  18. The Hollister shirt picture was taken August 2011. He was 16, 7 month pre-shooting.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) I think all teams do some sort of long toss regimen. It's one of the best ways to increase velocity. We see teams try it now and then, but I agree that nobody will ever stick with it. I think we're closer to a 6 man rotation than we are a 4 man. About half of teams use long toss to a significant extent. There are significant divisions in certain circles about the utility and even safety of long toss. I went to a clinic that treats Cardinals players and they told me I would be doing no long-tossing with them. Other places I consulted saw long tossing as the centerpiece of strengthening.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) We all know how well he did under pressure last summer...
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) No pressure or anything, but we really need him to be good for two starts. He just has to look healthy. Normal velocity, don't get absolutely shelled. They know what healthy Jake Peavy is like. He wins you games.
  22. Now this all makes sense...
  23. I watched Ben Wallace makes 13 threes in a row before a Bulls game several years ago...I no longer believe anything I see unless it happens in a game situation.
