A couple seasons ago, Koji Uehara turned into Chris Davis. Do it, Rick!

If I'm buying, I'd much rather have Peavy than Garza. Both for this season and when you factor in the contracts. Two different tiers of pitcher IMO.

The new thing I keep seeing, especially in light of this verdict, is this insistence that the only remaining racists are black people.

Yeah I'm not sure what they're doing. We could have kept Castro an extra day, it seems to me, in case of an extra inning marathon.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 08:10 AM) Yes, probably 30 GMs getting drunk together. "Hey man, I love you but, you know, your team f***ing sucks" *bar fight*

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 08:30 AM) 110 wRC+ is not superstar level at his position by any means, but for a team who is receiving below average production at 1B or DH, it is a substantial upgrade and one that could be the difference between making or missing the playoffs. Especially if you believe his .100 average through April 24th was a fluke, he's been a ton better than 110 wRC+ since then.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) He has done nothing this year to warrant wanting him in a trade QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) .211 in the offensive charged AAA, I think I'd rather try elsewhere. Might as well bring Josh Fields back. .890 OPS in AAA after getting the eye surgery. 28 HR, 82 RBI, .288 BA, .398 OBP, .977 OPS over 95 games in AA last year. He's far from a washout or valueless player. He'd be our number 1 prospect, easily, and could be playing in the MLB as soon as this year on our team.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 06:54 AM) The harm in some random guy getting all jacked is that he ends up killing you over something trivial because of 'roid rage. Roid rage is basically a myth. Research shows that a "vast majority" of steroid users do not have any emotional changes during use and they don't have much of an explanation for why it seems to happen to others. I'm guessing if you ran into a guy who seemed to be roid raging, he was experiencing a placebo effect (and/or is just a giant asshole and felt entitled to be an asshole because he was juicing and had plausible deniability). Depression can be a side effect of ineffective post-cycle treatment due to low testosterone, however.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 11:57 AM) Bobby Howry inexplicably hitting the Tigers batter up ten runs and one strike to go in the game is the best thing ever. And then wanting to rumble. That was no accident. I'd like to see this stuff happen again, just because I'm bored

Olt or bust. He might not make it, but he is close to the show and has the kind of impact potential that could make this rebuild happen in a hot hurry.

So Juror B37 says Stand Your Ground was a major part of the jury's reasoning. She also believed that Zimmerman was "egged on" by the 911 operator. In general, Anderson Cooper's interview with this juror showed that this person pretty much wholly believed Zimmerman's testimony because almost everything she says is qualified by "George says." While lots of people have been tough on the prosecution, I thought the one thing they did was cast doubt on everything Zimmerman said. I guess not.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:06 AM) When I've heard Buddy Bell, he talks about leaving "the good ones" alone, and let them try to figure it out on their own. Obviously Hawkins is a very aggressive hitter, so if he's still on his own, he's failing on his own. This year is probably a lost cause, so it really comes down to breaking it down in the offseason, and coming back to Winston-Salem for a full season as a much better player. But if he's the same guy a year from now, it's probably over for him as a hitter. There's no reason to let him play ~70 more games if he's going to strike out 140 times in that span. I'm not saying you bench him, but you change something. If we're not already doing a major swing reconstruction, it's time to start now. If he won't cooperate, send him to extended spring and let him enjoy his time there.

And he's a free agent after the conclusion of the contract. That's what Oakland did to get him in the fold. Fairly risky endeavor, considering they otherwise would have controlled him until 2018.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 07:26 AM) Here's my beef with the dump John Danks idea. At some point, we'll have more salary relief than we'll know what to do with it. Danks $14.3 Peavy $14.5 Sale $3.5 Dunn $15 Rios $12.5 Ramirez $9.5 Keppinger $4 2014 Total: $73.3M Beckham $3 => $6 Viciedo $2.8 => $3.5 De Aza $2.1 => $4.2 2014 Estimate: $13.7M So right now, we're looking at $87 million in payroll committments for next year. That's $30 million less than our 2013 opening day payroll, plus we'll be receiving an extra $25 million in TV revenue. Even if we keep all the guys mentioned above, we should have plenty of money to spend. My guess is that we at least one or two high salary players at the deadline which would free up even more money. IMO, dumping Danks' contract for financial reasons doesn't really do much for us. We're not going to sign 4 or 5 major free agents in one offseason. And we won't get much talent for him right now. However, a year from now when he's 100% healthy that may change, especially if player costs rise with the influx of new TV money. 2 years at $14.25M per may be a deal at that point. I've been saying this for a while now. With that said, re:Danks, he's the guy I'd be most comfortable with dumping. Not so much for salary, but because we should be able to replace him. Erik Johnson should be ready for the show and we have some depth around in Axe and Rienzo if that doesn't work out for whatever reason. It can be risky to go with pretty much 1 veteran (Peavy), though. Maybe we can call Sale a vet now.
-
Yeah, Olt would be an overpay of grand proportions for a half season of Garza. I would be jumping in if I were Hahn, because we can offer better.
-
There's no way you'd continue to play him if he was being outright insubordinate. I have a feeling they're not working on his mechanics very much. I just don't know why.

Not happy about the lack of Android MiLB.tv app

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 08:06 PM) QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) I was watching Sports Talk Live and they were saying of a possibility of Rios going to the Yankees. I find this hard to be true, given the source. Did that panel of fools mention Rios would no-trade veto that deal in a New York minute? LOL I saw that and thought the same thing. That's just Cubs Talk Live

He has said he's dealt with addiction since he was 13. Addiction is a tricky disease and this is always a potential end result

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 03:31 PM) This kind of thing happens often, and a lot of times it won't be due to a player "sucking" but some sort of blatant disrespect towards the manager. If there is a rift in the clubhouse, overall team chemistry will degrade and tensions will be high, which in turn will lead to poor overall play and players that are pressing. To me, that fits Ramirez, Viciedo, and De Aza to a T. Maybe the Sox should considering bringing in a latino coach who the players will hold in high esteem to at least have someone within the clubhouse who is capable of relating with the latino players. Viciedo?

Leyland told Scherzer that Sale was the starter as a joke. I liked it.

I forget what it was called, but I used to play an NHL game on my Nintendo 64 that was f***ing awesome. Mike Modano was a god in that game.
