  1. I'm taking the Sox. Farm system rankings are typically a horrible predictor of future success. Having an excellent MLB pitching staff with a pretty long track record of finding and developing pitchers seems like a better predictor for me. I also am happy to know that the White Sox have been far more committed to winning rather than mystical delusions of grandeur. We thought KW was arrogant, but TheoHoyer takes the cake. TheoHoyer believe they have cracked the code. Seems to me, Theo is continuing to pioneer the science of giving out horrible contracts. Enjoy your expensive Edwin Jackson and Starlin Castro! As for the rest, we shall see. I have a feeling that the next time the Cubs compete, it will be because Theo started buying MLB regulars through FA...and lord knows how that will look for the Cubs a few years after that project begins.
  2. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 10:56 PM) Here's what I've been told...(one source), FWIW - Close on a couple deals (real names exchanged) - Sale is not untouchable - Several guys are on their way out just to be gone (out of favor with RV) What this tells me, more than anything, is that they are committed to Robin. You don't let your manager's doghouse play much of a role in who you are trading if you are about to cut that manager loose.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) This is Peavy vs Rios. Peavy is a great starting pitcher, so he's always going to have good value, plus it's a relatively weak pitchers market. Rios is maybe a top 12 right fielder, but he's one of the best bats on the market right now. His value now versus where it will be in 5 months is drastically different. Alexei is going to have enough value right now simply because it's a position of weakness for many teams, but we can't act like Alexei is irreplaceable either. If the Sox can get solid value for him, especially if they get a shortstop prospect in a return trade, then they absolutely should do so. Peavy is far more likely to have his value sullied by another injury than Rios, which is no small factor. One more trip to the DL and Peavy is next to untradeable. For our purposes, also, we are far more likely to have the means to replace Peavy. Letting Rios go may leave us in a place where we have 0 decent outfielders.
  4. I am clearly more optimistic on Anderson than most. I think I'm slightly more pessimistic on Erik Johnson.
  5. So...is this another Jeff Manto success story?
  6. Let's just clear salary until the end of the next season so we can afford LeBron
  7. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) I can agree with that, but I'd like to add that Rose wasn't all that confident in his jumpshot in that series, nor was it falling at a great rate, so Lebron was the perfect defender. Think of when Diaw was guarding Lebron in this past finals and no, I'm not saying Diaw is the defender that Lebron is, but Lebron was able to give space which also helped him stay with Rose longer just as it helped Diaw against Lebron. If Rose any Chicago Bull was hitting his jumpshot it would have been a lot more interesting because Lebron would have had to pick something (like he had to against Jason Terry the next round).
  8. Admins will be happy to know that my Chrome AdBlock Plus has apparently whitelisted whatever ad provider you guys have, since I often see ads on here despite having that plug-in.
  9. Phegley won't be a lift and pull .210 hitter, I can promise you that. He might a s***ty .210 hitter or a .300 hitter with some pop, but he won't be an all or nothing guy. He'll much more likely be all....or nothing. If that makes sense.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) Better? That remains to be seen. You're right, Freddie isn't as good at blowing off Luis Gonzalez
  11. Glad to see the more deserving and better player got in. NL one step closer to home field advantage!!!
  12. FWIW, I was irritated that we are doing this bulls*** for him in the first place. The logo is just icing on the "look at this asshole" cake.
  13. With his arbitration status, the longer you wait, the less chance you are able to work out an extension (but conversely, the longer you wait, the more likely something changes that makes an extension seem like a bad idea)
  14. A- to A+ is the smallest jump in the MiLB. You can ruin a player by promoting him aggressively, but not by putting an A- player in A+ a year too early.
  15. If the Tigs want to improve their bullpen, we can work something out if we get the Cabrera kid back in return. He's blocking their top prospect anyway.
  16. Don Cooper is going to have to do a lot to make me not trust his handling of pitchers. He's been doing it for quite a while and has been very good at keeping his arms healthy.
  17. Dunn looked like the Sox player trying hardest to get into a fight during the mix-up
  18. LOL the bullpen charge was my favorite. Let's jog out there and stand with our hands on our hips!
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) I'm reading the thread on it. Josh Fields was everyone's centerpiece. Other big names included were the likes of Lance Broadway, and Jerry Owens It's a good thing we held out then
  20. Yet there is only one franchise that can say with certainty that they are in a better position to win than Chicago. f***ing wannabes
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) We were pretty close to trading for Cabrera though iirc. Didnt have the pieces and the Tigers swoop in. What could have been. I believe one of the hold ups is that we didn't want to take back Dontrelle Willis
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) Bonds and it is not close. Doesn't count. He intentionally walked 120 times in a season. That's just stupid.
  23. I still think that Miggy isn't smart, he's just too supremely talented to hardly ever look fooled up there. I think his pitch recognition is simply other-worldly and his ability to convert the recognition into a result is just as impressive. I don't think he has to try hard at all to be this good.
  24. I knew there was no way Cabrera would let Chris off the hook for striking him out earlier
