It's happened at least 2 other times in previous games. Not sure what the issue is.
All scouting reports on him mention this; an apparent problem with catching pitches. Not blocking - he does that fine. Just catching regular pitches. It dumbfounds me
Lots of games left to change our minds about who will stick around next year. We could easily hate Josh Phegley and love Blake Tekotte a month from now

Looks like Hawkins blocked the sports writer for the Winston-Salem paper because he pointed out he had a golden sombrero. Nice to see Courtney runs to twitter right after the game to see what everyone is saying about him.
How can you tell if somebody has blocked someone else on twitter?
As fathom alluded to, mechanical faults can make it seem like your pitch recognition is bad when it isn't. There are all kinds of things that can leave a hitter unable to hit more than one speed of pitch

I'll make the prediction that the 4th outfielder next year isn't in the organization right now. I also will make a prediction that the Sox will give Mitchell some ABs at the MLB level at the end of this year.
Why go outside the org. for a backup OF'er in a rebuilding/transition year?

He's just a bad player who had a 2 week hot stretch in AAA and the Sox brought him up.
He's just one part of a 3 man race for fourth outfielder of the future. I'm okay with that
Soriano has been under fire for his OF defense for a long time, but UZR has consistently rated him good to excellent out there

Nice job to get out of the jam, thanks in part to the fan. Would be nice to score some runs. You'd think the Sox one night would luck into 8-9 runs by law of averages.
We did. The other team lucked into 19 that night
