  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) Ah crap forget that he could start against us. Haha, I can so see him destroying us. How funny, actually probably not, to see him strikeout Swisher in a big situation during the game? Maybe Sweeney will get a couple RBIs in that game, too. IMO we would be much better off having not made that trade and leaving Sweeney in CF.
  2. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) The umpire pushed Guillen with a closed fist and spit in his face. After the game, the umpires apologized for the bad call on Carrasco which set Ozzie off in the first place. And yet Ozzie gets suspended two games? MLB should start suspending umpires for bad calls and improper conduct, but MLB is a joke. ??? I didn't see this.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) I'm going to get all Charles Haley and s*** when I see Griffey take the field. Ditto.
  4. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount for his aggressive actions during the incident, which included making contact with Umpire Tim Timmons, and for his comments following the game. Guillen will begin to serve his suspension tonight, when the White Sox host the Detroit Tigers. Link It's funny, the umpire was the one making contact with him. He even made a show of trying to back away from him.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) Pop vs. Soda map http://popvssoda.com:2998/ That map doesn't have pop stretching down to my part of Illinois, and I don't know any locals that call it soda. Edit: Now that I visit the webpage, it just shows both soda and pop overlapping my area, which is still inaccurate but not as bad.
  6. His last outing against KC wasn't really fair considering he had prolly thrown well over his season high in pitches the night before, I'm sure it affected him, not to mention the fact that he's been the victim of a few bleeders and bloops. Edit: Referencing Ehren.
  7. I can't believe no one tried to address that situation, I would not stand for guys beating it around me, gay or not.
  8. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 06:42 AM) Seems like the only people who thought he was dead were the town's people. Since he did not know he was "dead" he muist have continued to pay taxes, etc. So townspeople thought he was dead, but apparently the government did not.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:43 AM) He barely did that in '06 and was better than a league average pitcher. I say that not praying for a power arm but not desiring to have the Freddy that was throwing slower than Buehrle.

    Tornado sirens

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:12 AM) Wrigley was evacuated? c'mon. I thought tall buildings made it impossible for a twister to build enough speed. I thought that was the case as well.
  11. If he could keep his fastball in the 90's, sure.

    Tornado sirens

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Yup, we got mad sirens out here, and then the power immediately went out. It's still out, but thankfully I have a laptop and the wireless verizon internet. That's a top notch setup right there. And of all places to go in a natural disaster, why not come to Soxtalk?

  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) Hell yes, I hope it would. Go back and read my very first post...I said I hoped it was a short thread. We still need to win to keep it closed, and I sure hope it does.
  16. I wish I could be at the cell tomorrow to see Griffey's home debut. I bet it'll be electric.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) Wait, what? The Twins make a crucial error? 9-6 Mariners. This thread would be locked if the Twins lose right?
  18. If our pitchers come anywhere close to 1st half form, which you can't say its unreasonable to think that they will pitch better than they have lately, we are incredibly dangerous. Our lineup with a healthy Joe Crede in it will be a pitcher's nightmare, especially if Swish or Paulie came around at all. OC as our spark plug tends to be the start of many rallies. AJ isn't a prototypical 2 hitter but its nice to have the .290 bat at the top of the order. Then, Quentin and Dye who are just murdering balls, Thome who as of late has been doing as well or better than those two, a hot Ken Griffey Jr. and the .310 hitting Alexei Ramirez are just going to cause some nightmares. Bringing Joe back to be a .270 hitter (assuming he hits a little better than he did right before going to the DL) and always a home run and double threat only adds to this. The only breath a pitcher will be able to take in our whole lineup is Swish, because he hits for such a low average. But even with Swisher, his power is always looming and he walks a ton. With a lineup like ours, we don't need the first-half pitching. We just need something more like it, even just the career norms for most of these guys.
  19. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) I hate to say it with Josh, but it wouldn't surprise me if his career ended up sort of the same as Tony Batista (think that's his name the third baseman who played with the O's and last with the Twins). I mean 30HR power absolutely, maybe more, but unless he can cut down on the K's, or at least walk at least over 50 times during the season, probably needs more than that, then it's something that is really going to hurt him down the line. Still the power he flashed in around 100 games last season was hugely impressive. Josh will never the be the all-star that he was touted to be if he strikes out 1 out of every 3 at bats in AAA. Speaking of high strikeout totals, it's too bad that Brad Eldred plays the one position we have a logjam at or else he probably deserves a shot to tee off on major league pitching.
  20. Ozzie really didn't say anything that everybody didn't know, he has said many more suspension-worthy things in his tenure. If he was to be suspended, they would simply be making an example of him which isn't fair to him or the white sox.
  21. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) Good news from the cnn.com updated article Really good to hear. Such a talented and entertaining man.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) I think it has more to do with the massive, massive upgrade they made from Livan to Liriano, and how that is probably a 3-4 game swing in terms of wins for them the rest of the way. In all honesty, I don't think the Twins will play great baseball the rest of the way, especially with their schedule. However, the Sox are going to have to play above .500 baseball though, and won't be able to crawl their way across the finish line. I'm with you, if the Sox play like we've seen them play in the past, we can easily win this division.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:11 AM) That was a 99 game winning team with excellent pitching, speed, defense and clutch hitting. This team is not as good. It was also a team coming off of a horrid second half.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:04 AM) I feel the same about this team as I did back in May when they originally took first place -- good enough to win the AL Central, but I don't see them making any noise in the playoffs. Maybe I'm spoiled from our most recent playoff run, but I feel like we can do anything in the playoffs.

    Montauk Monster

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 05:55 AM) the sun shines on a dogs ass every once in a while He could have been scrounging through garbage cans on a pier and fallen into the ocean and drowned. Raccoons get themselves into trouble alot because of how inquisitive they are and how determined they are to get food. Did you see on the Gawker website that other "montauk monsters" had been found? I wonder if raccoons wash ashore often or if something drove a bunch of them into the water.
