  1. Even though he doesn't quite fit, I'm absolutely giddy that my all time favorite player is on the Sox. It's like a childhood dream being realized.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) I have questions as to how Griffey will handle CF, but having Anderson as a defensive backup should work out well. Griffey is a significant upgrade offensively over Konerko & SWISHER. Note that I include Swisher in the equation as I personally have no problem moving Swisher and staying with Konerko (this is if the Konerko is in fact 100% healthy). That said, it sounds like Konerko will be benched for the time being. Still, I expect him to get some playing time since Griffey can't possibly be expected to play CF every day (ie, he'll need at least 1-2 games off a week). I assume Wise will be sent down with the Sox adding someone from the minors (or the trade market) to the pen. In terms of what the Sox gave up. Masset is an arm I like but had little value to the Sox and really just needs a shot to pitch in a low pressure situation and get things figured out (that wasn't going to happen with the Sox). Richar is toolsy but I'm not saddened by his loss since I prefer Getz (who I believe is a much more intelligent and well rounded ball-player, although much less toolsy). I don't see the Reds interest in Richar unless they plan on moving him to SS. In general neither Masset or Richar were what I'd consider "key" minor leaguers. Both were on the wrong end of the development curve (ie, mid 20's without yet establishing themselves in the bigs). I also think the Sox could end up getting a comp pick out of this. At first I thought no, Sox wouldn't offer arbitration in fear of Griffey accepting, however, think about it. If the Sox make a couple moves which would basically block any spot where Ken could play, do you really think he'd accept arbitration (someone will at least offer him a 1yr 10M type of deal and I think he'd take that before he'd take going to arbitration on a team where he wouldn't be an everyday player). My question is, if Griffey really produces, is having him next year and perhaps beyond really a bad thing?
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) Wow, when did you come up with that one? I've never heard a comment like that before, certainly haven't see one posted on soxtalk like that. Why wouldn't Beane jump at the chance to get Swisher back. Swish, Poreda, and a throw in for Street and Duchscherer is a realistic possibility. Throwing in Poreda would make it a more real possibility. However, the original post insinuated Swish would be the only player of value in the trade, which is just fantasy.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) That's what I was thinking. That would be a heavenly trade. Yeah probably time to turn off the xboxes.
  5. If we buy Griffey out, any chance we bring him back for less money?
  6. The White Sox acquired RHP Jon Edward Link in exchange for Rob Mackowiak. (Although a sack of baseballs was acceptable return for Mack). This season he has surged to become a stopper out of the Birmingham bullpen. He has done extremely ever since coming to our Sox. Perhaps someone in the Birmingham area has an idea? Also I found this article about him : Link
  7. Wes has again seemed to turn a corner, possibly the best starter we have in Charlotte, as far as success rate. 11 5 3.13 21 21 0 0 0 118.0 122 55 41 9 37 49 1.65 .265 Since we have heard of him having 6 or 7 different pitches, does anyone know what he's been using and how fast he's throwing and what not?
  8. I wonder how many slumpbusters have been sent Paulie's way.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) He can't pinch hit? Not sure I understand that. Maybe he means since he's getting benched due to his inability to hit, he isn't an ideal pinch hitting candidate.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) Wow, good job that time. He had baserunners that inning, but he wasn't really getting hit so in my estimation he may have turned it around for the day.
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) DJ shoulda just let that one go unnoticed, but it ended up being really weird for the family audience i'm sure DJ had that 13 year old boy giggle going.
  12. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) I see it being a tad more difficult than that. Nobody said it would be easy, but someone's got to win the games. Might as well be the better team.
  13. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) That stat is ludicrous if only because of the total number of times Dye has homered against them. He hasn't been with us THAT long, christ! I agree, someone should research that. It's not impossible, but not probable either.
  14. Some great AB's by Sox hitters this inning.
  15. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) My question is, say we get a SP without giving up Floyd/Danks/Javy/Buehrle, what do we do with Count? Banish him to the bullpen? He hasn't had THAT bad of a season. Just curious as to what you guys think. Yep, he goes to the pen. He's been hurt, he's been wildly inconsistent, and just isn't pitching like a starter for a world championship team. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) The worst/most inconsistent pitcher goes to the pen and becomes the long reliever. It seems like pitchers are dropping like flies of late, so the more arms the merrier. KW knows the status of the team's health and he's going to do everything in his power to field a team capable of winning it all this year. I don't doubt that for one second. Definitely do not need addition by subtraction as our pitchers drop like flies. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Bingo. I would include Vazquez as part of a package for somebody like Halladay, but he obviously doesn't have nearly as much value as somebody like Floyd or Danks. I also would be willing to part with Vazquez, but seeing as he has little value for the trade market, we'll be stuck with him and wouldn't get enough in return if we did get rid of him. I would trade Contreras for a good batboy though.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) Given the power the Sox possess at the other positions in the field, I could totally live with that (assuming they have the ability to trade for Figgings, which is a major if). There are wayyy too many ifs. GMs almost never manage to get all that done even when they plan it that way. See: Our past offseason.
  17. My feeling is that if we acquire a starter, it needs to be an addition, not a replacement. Not nearly as much is gained if we have to take Floyd out of the rotation. I would trade anyone but the top 4 in our rotation. I want a newly acquired starter to bump Contreras out of the rotation, not to replace Floyd who has been one of our strongest starters and leave the mess that is known as Jose Contreras in to lose ballgames.
  18. Wow what a HUGE win.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) Move to Venezuela. If you can avoid the violence, you can drive all day. Gas is $.12 a gallon. Wow.
  20. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) I'd be more interested to add the count to a lowe trade contreras/Ocab for Lowe/? That would be a wonderful trade, IMO.
