  1. At this point in time, Soriano is the only player I really want to pursue. There's no other position I feel needs to be upgraded.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) A Garcia for Crisp trade would be one of my favorite transactions ever by the White Sox. He didn't mean Garcia. He meant Haeger. But I agree, I would love a Garcia for Crisp trade.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) I believe Uribe dropped Boras in order to sign a deal with the Sox. That is why he's one of my favorite players. Uribe fired Boras almost immediately after being traded from the Rockies to Sox.
  4. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) I would love to get Coco and have him in CF and BA in Left....that would improve the defense majorly... That's absolutely absurd. Coco is nowhere near the defender Anderson is. He is better than Pods would be in LF though.
  5. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) Maybe just let them pitch as a team, Vasquez 1 through 5 then BMac till the 8th then the Jenksy cat comes in. That's been mentioned before as well, but that type of strategy is usually used in a case like one if McCarthy was moved into the rotation but we likely only throw 4-5 innings for his first few starts so you would put in Vasquez to finish it out. This is known as "piggybacking." It's not a longterm fix for the Vazquez problem though, you can't take away another bullpen arm.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Tejada is supposed to be a great teammate, in addition to his considerable skills on the diamond. Even though he's been very good, he hasn't been quite the same player since the steroid testing was implemented. His name has come in connection with steroids, by Palmeiro and maybe even Canseco. Not sure about Jose, though. Kenny would have to put in his due diligence on that issue before making a move for him.
  7. QUOTE(jenksd @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) THE CHILD EATING CONTINUES IN THE NAME OF GLOAD Do we wanna know?
  8. After looking at Rogo's performance tonight I wonder why there isn't much trade interest in him. I know most would like more HRs out their first baseman, but he does possess power and hits for a lot of 2 baggers and can be a speed threat on the bases as well. Traditionally he usually maintains a somewhat high average as well. (Even though he really doesn't look like he would ever steal a bag with that physique, he sure does it.)
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) Still, IMO, a top 10 in the league RH setup man is simply not worth a potentially 20-30 home run hitting 3rd baseman who has not yet started his arbitration clock, especially considering that your RHP setup man is close to hitting arbitration years and having his salary go up. Especially with Macx2 and Jenks out there. If a starting rotation hole were to magically appear along with a monster hitter (say, some random shortstop from Baltimore) due to a trade of an SP and the move of our best starter (BMac) to the starting 5, I could understand a deal like that. But beyond that, it's too high a price. Had to highlight the most dangerous word in sports. I do tend to agree with you though, there isn't much of a need for him unless Kenny feels complete distrust in Riske. It seems a Linebrink trade would have to be a deal that would be followed by a deal moving an SP, as you said.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) Given his contract, and OBP and SB numbers, I would do Abreu for Fields and Podsednik, but not more on our side unless a lot of money was included. I'm not sure if I would even do that trade, seeing as his numbers have declined this year and that contract is just too big for a question mark. I just wonder if maybe he has passed his prime at 32 years old, because for the past year he has been a different player.
  11. QUOTE(SnB @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) i bought mine at last year's soxfest, wore it everyday until this past may, when i lost it at work while taking a rubber glove off. I was pissed. I'm interested in the role the rubber glove played in losing the hat.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) But the problem of course is, there's no reason to guarantee that the 3.72 is less representative of a reliever's performance in the NL than the 2.60 ERA or whatever it was a week ago. The 2 ERA could have been due to a guy on a hot streak, and he could have done a Vazquez and had a few bad innings to even his numbers out. Fair enough. But previous numbers support my case that it appears the past 4 outings are an abberation not a return to mediocrity from a hot streak. Unless of course you'd like to argue that he's been on a 3 and a half year hot streak that is now coming to an end. (And FWIW, he is listed as Day-to-Day, citing "personal reasons")
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) This is legit. He pulled his hamstring performing an endurance test. Its been widely reported but luckily the injury isn't incredibly serious. Of course Hammy's can be the type of thing that are lingering. I've seen him listed anywhere from day to day to missing 7-10. Yeah, I hope to see him back soon, but not if he causes a distraction. Earn your paycheck and you'll be compensated when the deal you signed runs out. We didn't ask Cedric to take a pay cut because he didn't perform like a ROY last year, and we won't give you more money because you aren't satisfied the deal you signed.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) Mark Buehrle was sporting a top 5 in the AL ERA before his last 5 outings. Linebrink is currently sporting a 3.72 ERA. That's not great for a National League reliever. Of course 4 outings for a reliever can be in a week, meaning having a bad week, where with Buehrle thats an entire month of struggling. Not disagreeing with the fact that 3.72 is not great for a NL reliever, or any reliever, just saying that it's not really a fair comparison. (Oh yeah and I absolutely love this quick edit feature.)
  15. It's funny how many people I've talked to tonight talking about how some guy they never heard of won the Sox game.
  16. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) The good news is it leaves Philly without a 3B. So right now, SD and PHI both need 3B for the future. Philly doesn't need one right this minute, but the prospect of SD sniffing around Fields could help drive up his price. Interesting thought, although there isn't much I'd want from Philly. Something about Abreu just doesn't make me feel right giving much up for him. Could definitely help though.
  17. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) Betemit actually turned 26 today as well. Man, I feel really old, I remember watching him at the hot prospect in the Braves organization when he was 20-21 years old. That's alright, I'm pretty young but I remember a young Tony Graffanino being thought of as THE shortstop of the future for the Atlanta Braves. He didn't pan out to be a stud like that, but I do love his brand of ball and would love to see him in a White Sox uniform sometime again.
  18. I thought the Lee deal was beneficial for both sides. I don't completely understand this deal, not that it's necessarily hurting anything.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) http://www.angelfire.com/droid/kalapse/Whi...Progression.htm Jenks is locked up through '01, Thornton '10 and MacDougal through '09 so I wouldn't worry about losing any of them anytime soon. Yeah I didn't think that through too well. I really like where we are with those guys though. It's not smoke in mirrors with them either, there's a lot of heat and a lot of talent in that bunch too.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) How are they "far from flashy"? He's a top 5 righty setup man in baseball, period. He has dominated the National League for the past 3 seasons and has been about as consistent as they come. Take another look at those stats because they don't get much better than that. He's given up 7 runs over his past 4 outings so his numbers aren't going to look great for this season but a week ago he was sporting a 2.62 ERA. Those past few outings must have masked a good overall season. So what else about this guy? What kind of stuff does he have?
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) So, if I'm in KW's position, I call up and use the names Garcia/Vazquez, Uribe, and 2 minor leaguers of Baltimore's choosing (Broadway + Fields?) and see if I can win in the bidding. I don't give up more than that (maybe a 3rd prospect not named Sweeney), and I don't allow the names McCarthy or Anderson to be considered, but we could at least get in on the bidding. If other teams outbid us, there's not much we can do, and they'd be hurting themselves more than helping themselves in terms of lost talent. But we really should be in on this, even if we don't have enough to make it happen. Tejada would be very intriguing, and I'm with you, it's definitely worth an inquiry.
  22. I'm not thrilled at all with Linebrink. Can someone enlighten me as to why he is valued so high? I really know little about him other than his numbers are far from flashy and he is 29 years old.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) Buster Olney did not say it was a starting pitcher, for all we know they called about Cotts, Thornton, MacDougal, Jenks or McCarthy. Ahh spiff. I keep forgetting about that. I would give up Cotts for him, even though I love Neal. Other than that, I'm undecided on McCarthy (but I'm pretty sure KW would want more if he was to give up McCarthy) and as far as I'm concerned MacDougal Jenks and Thornton are untouchable. And I want them all locked up. We will have the best bullpen in the league for years to come with those 3 on the back end. QUOTE(champ @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) By who, the dumbspiffs that cloud the airwaves on the radio everyday? No one has ever said that those guys are on the market, besides the NY Daily News, who was just dreaming about getting another pitcher because they know that team won't be worth a damn once the playoffs roll around. With all the media speculation surrounding Vazquez and Garcia, I am inclined to think GMs will be apt to at least call and see the availability of those two if they are at all interested in their services.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) Whoever said it was Garcia/Vazquez? More of an assumption, considering it's likely known around the league that those two can be had. Garland has no-trade of course. I doubt he gets many inquiries on Buehrle and Contreras. Although I suppose they could have been meaning McCarthy. That would make the deal quite interesting, and tempting. It'd be a tough call. That's why I'm glad I don't sit in the big office.
