  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 31, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) We tend to hit fastball dominant pitchers. Don't write us off so soon. He is filthy with pinpoint control. I know we have handled fastballers better than junkballers, but I think the world of Strasburg. He will be dominant when he arrives for the Nats.
  2. and the sox will draw strasburg june 19th since he will be up for his first start on june 8th. mark that one down as an L.
  3. That NL schedule is no cupcake. The Braves could easily sweep us and the Cubs have good pitching and could dominate our hitters. The Nationals are playing really well and we can only hope and pray we don't have to face Strasburg, because he would own us I'm pretty sure. Heck even the Pirates are competitive and have a few fun guys to watch play. As a Sox fan, I hope they play well and support them through the thick and the thin, but the smart baseball person in me knows they really aren't that good as constructed. All of the guys struggling right now need to break out of it and the pitching needs to be sharp and on their games in order to win. We need more consistant pitching performances to believe that we come jump back into the race.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 29, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) the weird thing about Konerko is earlier this year it seemed his average wasnt all that great, but his power numbers were crazy. So maybe if Konerko "regresses" to the mean, his average will go up but his power numbers will drop off a bit. Konerko's power has dropped off already this month with only 3 HR and slugging an abysmal .349. He also is batting .205 this month. He simply had an amazingly hot start and followed it up with a cold May. Nothing new for PK, who has proven to be as streaky as they come over the course of his career with the Sox. Hopefully we get an average month out of him in June with 6HR's and 15-20 RBI and a 275AVG.
  5. He is batting .318 over his last 7 days. He is certainly showing some signs of breaking out. Nearly all struggling players rise to career norms by the end of the season, just as nearly all hot players(see Konerko), fall back to career norms. Now if we can just get Q, Alexei,Teahen to also get back to career norms, we may just have a shot at turning things around.
  6. I'd like to see a bench clearing brawl today.
  7. just what the bullpen needs after freddys meltdown on sunday
  8. anyone else finding the video of this game to be quite horrible?
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) Sox pitching has gone 18 innings without allowing a single run. impressive....the pitching staff is what will carry us if we get back into this thing. in order to run off a long winning streak, it is all about the pitching having good performances.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) I bet PK won't make it. Teixeira will get voted the starter, and then Morneau/Cabrera will be the other two. Good points. I remember Big Frank often being all star snubbed in the 90's despite him being deserving. I just think Paulie has another 2-3 HR in May in him and about 6 HR in June. That would out him at about 22HR and quite possibly still leading the league. That is tough to not select.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) We should all vote for Rios 20 times a day so he can be a starter in the ASG. He's deserved it so far. Speaking of the ASG, we probably have 3 all stars this year in Rios, Danks and PK. That's not bad for such a s***ty team.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) From the offseason acquisitions, is Teahen the biggest disappointment right now? Yeah he is easily the biggest disappointment of the offseason guys. He is a regular player who is playing horrible. Pierre at least has started to play better as of late
  13. good inning gavin...he is on my fantasy league team too, he has been so frustrating, he has so much talent when he can throw that curve for strikes.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Good luck with that, there wasn't a single piece of Rios merchandise on sale at the Cell last night. you could get one at the custom tshirt store in the cell. im not sure the price on that versus a vendor sold tshirt though.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) Rios is a joy to watch. funny how so many wanted him gone after his 2 months in 2009. the guy is a complete player.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) Kotsay will stay in baseball, as he can be on someone's bench as a PH yeah kotsay could have a job with just about any NL team as a 4th or 5th OF/1B guy who is primarily a PH given that he is a lefty. vizquel will certainly be done after this year. as for randy williams, bullpen guys often say bye bye to the majors at some point. especially those who are bad like he is. castro provides some decent defense so i would think some team could use his services as a backup.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 20, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) Well said, How could anybody argue with that? Isn't it amazing how in the last 2 years we never have had a significant winning streak? Even if we started playing winning baseball, it'd take us to the all-star break probably just to reach .500. Often it takes a string of strong pitching performances to reel off a long win streak. Rarely do you see final scores of 7-6,9-5,12-8, etc as part of a long win streak, you see alot more 5-3, 6-2, 4-1 type ball games for teams who are streaking. While our pitching as a whole has been much better than the offense, they don't seem to be stringing enough good start together in a row. Buehrle and Floyd have been pathetic the first month and a half. With 2 of 5 guys pitching like crap, it is impossible to go on a streak, especially with an anemic offense. I know the offense catches alot of heat from all of us posters and rightfully so, but other teams with bad offenses are winning and it is because of good pitching. Hopefully something change in the next month for this team on both sides of the ball. If this team is the same after the Cubs series, that is when the firesale will happen I believe.
  18. let that 2 rbi single be a springboard of good things to come. i love seeing hitters go hard right back up the middle.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 16, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) If you don't like how Beckham is hitting and one of those guys that thinks he should be optioned to Charlotte, you are really going to be frustrated with the 3 you mentioned striking out all the time in the big leagues. Wait until they are ready. I believe Beckham should figure out his hitting woes up here. He is a premier talent who is stuggling, I think he will come around real soon actually.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Please blow this team up sooner rather than later. Agreed, call up Flowers, get Viciedo here, D2. See what we have, get some spects for PK,AJ,get rid of Vizquel,Kotsay can go. Bring up Lillibridge and give the kid a shot at being a backup.
  21. and nix is well....nix. he sucks too. this team is a huge clusterfuclk.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 15, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) Beckham isn't hitting at all. Are you really going to tell me that giving him the second most at-bats out of anyone on this ballclub is optimizing the teams chances to win? It's not. We have a bad sitiuation, and Ozzie is making the worst of it. In all fairness, Beckham did have 2 hits yesterday. Ozzie may feel the drop in order helped restore some confidence. This lineup is still horses***. I want Flowers up. Let him split time between DH/C. We need a shot in the arm.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ May 10, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Beckham is a lifetime .213 hitter at US Cellular Field. Very alarming. Even if you take away his 2-24 start at the Cell last year, he's still only .223. I think most of this is in his head. He just needs to find a way to be successful at home, and I think he'll come out of it ok. For now, bat him 7th or 8th for a couple weeks, and if he continues to suck, send him down to Charlotte until he gets his swing back. Maybe change his intro music?
