2005 was a horrible 2nd Half as well. We almost lost that division that season and finally heated back up the final week and then into October. It makes me wonder if it is an organizational thing or just something that happens when you play 162 games with veterans?? I think alot of it goes back to the style of baseball the White Sox play, which is play for the 3 run HR. When you have guys just trying to pull and lift, if it isn't working, then we have nothing else. It is the organizational theory of having a DH in the mold of Baines/Thomas/Thome who can't play a position and not giving other guys a break in the field with a DH day. I think Kenny and Ozzie have finally seen enough of this style. We certainly need power to win but we need to have a more balanced team to play through these power outages. I think we are moving in the right direction with Rios,Beckham and Alexei as guys who are more well rounded ball players. With the SP rotation we have lined up for the next few years, we need a lineup that can manufacture runs, hit and run, go 1st to 3rd.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) Anyone who advocates releasing either one has zero clue about baseball or how business is done, or about showing any damn class/respect as an organization. you ought to ask Carlton Fisk about that -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) Game a week baby! exactly...i said after the peavy deal, that with our rotation heading forward, assuming peavy would be back by now, we can easily make up a game a week. but now im more worroed about the offense.
-
we have 5 weeks left to make up 5.5 games. we can do this thing.

DFA....PLEASE!!!!!!!! He is done. That inning was horrible. We are going to lose this damn game because he couldn't field a groundball and doesn't have the mental ability to pitch over a few mistakes. He hurts the team, please get rid of him, eat the remaining dollars for the final month. Bring up Peavy to take the spot and hope Freddy can fill the 5th spot or make a waiver deal for someone to fill the role the last month. We need a real pitcher if we are gonna win this division. Each game matters at this point. There is no reason to know we are gonna lose on Jose Contreras days 80% of the time. Get us someone who at least gives us a 50/50 shot at winning.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) I think we just got a market value CF'er for basically nothing but a contract. Torii Hunter-lite somewhat, but entering his prime. Great pickup. exactly and when you take into account his age and skills he is on par or a better deal than hunter. moving to the cell never hurts.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) Rios has talent, but lets not get carried away and think he's a bargain. Exactly how many $60 million contracts has KW doled out as a GM? what other CF would you rather have for 12 million for the next 5 years given ages/production/declines/D,etc??? seriously...rowand? yeah right....ichiro,beltran or hunter? sure they are better but older and far more expensive. wells and his albatross deal? the CF's available via free agency are garbage and via trade we would have given up serious talent for someone like victorino, kemp, hamilton, etc. the young and upcoming CF's like mccutchen, fowler, rasmus arent going anywhere given their contracts. this deal was terrific when you take everything into account.

we almost had torii hunter for 18 million a year and rios is younger and puts up very similar numbers and also great D for only 12mil on avg for the next 5 years. this is a middle of the season free agent signing essentially. this is a great move. pods will spell TCQ and Dye once a week, maybe spell Thome against a tough lefty with TCQ moving to DH for those games. Pods late game PR ability could determine a few wins down the stretch, i love this move and if you dont, you will.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
dmbjeff replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
this is quite a unique situation. to me it is a mid season free agent acquisition. we are essentially getting an all star OF for nothing. perhaps a prospect or 2, but nothing of substance. i had to think about rios and if his numbers are worth the money he is owed and i think he is. playing in a better ballpark with a better team should help his numbers. he is also a good CF something we desperately need. he has good speed and power and will give us very nice production. i hope this happens. -
did you guys see him after the game? he gave a guy cpr and open heart surgery in lot C. using his bare hands.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) beckham at 3b is average to above average, at 2b or ss he's elite. I don't understand keeping him at third for the long haul. this a fantasy baseball type response. if the phillies moved utley to the OF does he become less productive?

Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Richard, Poreda, Russell, Carter
dmbjeff replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
we can always make a waivers trade soon for a 5th starter. maybe someone like a doug davis, i think he will be a free agent at years end and a lefty, and then stick him in the pen for september. you can never have enough decent leftys -
Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Richard, Poreda, Russell, Carter
dmbjeff replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
if we can just stay with in about 4GB by sept 1st...i think the rotation can make up 4 games in september. we just need the bats to wake up and maybe this trade will be a wakeup call to them. im really excited. -
we lost about 20,000 in attendence having a straight doubleheader with seattle back in april. we had a horribly cool april/may/june weather wise forcing smaller crowds. we had a horrible mediocre team until about 2 weeks ago. our attendence always goes up when the weather warms like it is now and aren't forced to pay premium prices for series they dont want to see. if last year we avg. 30,000 fans, that is over a whole season. wait til the summer continues and we continue to see larger crowds with the nice weather. also add in that this ball club is now looking like a contender, more and more people will go to games down the stretch if they are meaningful. stop your crying KW. i love what you do, but you are out of line on this one.

I have never, not once, in my entire life ever rooted for the Cubs to win a game unless it was against an AL Central rival. Tomorrrow, I will indeed root for the Cubs. I hope Derrek Lee hits a line drive shot. I hope it hits Judas Peavy right in his nuts. I hope he needs testicle surgery. He needs it. His balls couldn't handle the AL or the White Sox. F him in his big mangina.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) It's settled, I'm getting me a pet penguin. it's too hot for a penguin to just be walkin around
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) I wouldn't even care about that. Think how badass it would be to train your penguin then one day you're having a party and have your penguin walk in from the kitchen holding a tray or pitcher of something dressed in a waiter outfit. Jaws would drop and hilarity would ensue. Is everyone stoned today??

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) Holy crap, $35 for admission to a zoo?? Do they let you ride a gorilla? post of the year

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) I'd prefer to give up Corky all together. Let him be Peavy's personal servant or something. can we throw corky and henry blanco in the deal too?
-
Think Corky will give up his number? That may be the sticking point.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) There it is. End of the day it's all about the mean green. could we pick up the option but restructure the way it is paid out?
-
I bet Hawk and Steve are under direct orders to talk up how good the White Sox are and how winnable this division is today in hopes Peavy is watching.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) The way we usually do things, wouldn't be surprised if it is announced at the game during the 7th inning stretch or even post game that he accepted the deal. Who knows. I think Hawk might wet himself.
