  1. As much as i hated Jose Valentin, i was at 2 of his walkoff's, one against Cleveland last yr when they were up 8-0, blew the lead and came back to win it and the other was cubs'vs sox, it was a friday game in 2003, jose beat the cubs and i was in the bullpen sports bar.
  2. 1986, ah ok, I couldn't remember, but I still love the Hawkaroo.
  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) How many other teams passed over Barry Bonds? How many teams passed over Mark Buehrle? How many teams passed over... You get the point. You never know in the draft. It's a crapshoot. I know it's a crapshoot, but it was Barry Bonds. Love him or like most, hate him, he has been an awesome player, probably the best overall player in the past 20 years.
  4. The baseball draft is much harder than the NFL or NBA and very few people know anything about the prospects in MLB. Well our friends at ESPN rated some of the best and worst draft picks of the past 40-50 years at each draft position. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...alan&id=2074809 Frank Thomas is on the list, as well as Robin Ventura. They also have a few busts on their list and one in particular is very disturbing. In 1985, our Sox took Kurt Brown. Who is/was Kurt Brown, he was an "unproven high school catcher", but the pick directly following Brown, was a guy named Barry Bonds. I know Bonds is a major tool and at this point of his career after the cheating and lying. I wish he'd just retire but to think what our team could have been through the late 80's into the 90's. Now I love the Hawk, but I also do believe he was the GM for one season in 1985, I could be wrong on this, but it had to be the worst baseball decision of his life, if in fact I'm correct about the year he GM'd. Check out the article, interesting read about certain players, good and bad. I also apologize if this is real old news and if it has been brought up before, but thought it was interesting for fans who weren't aware.
  5. QUOTE(ReinsdorfSucks @ May 27, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) after their performance lately, they don't want a greeting cause tomatoes will be tossed at them. Their performance lately on a 10 game road trip is 4-4. I will take .500 ball out of the guys on a roadtrip anytime. No need to worry about that, the bats should wake up soon, I only worry about the Twinkies, as of today only 4 games back of the best team in baseball, I wish they would falter a bit.
  6. I'm not a doctor, but i was in the right field bleachers on friday and saw el duque talking with contreras, but i did see him mess around with his groin alot during pregame, perhaps he tweaked something, just a theory which will probably be proven completely wrong by me. Oh and by the way, the bleachers at Wrigley are so bad, ive only heard stories before, but i swear i was at a frat party or a bar, i couldnt tell with all the talking going on all around me, f*** the cubs and their fans, im just glad our boys are preforming so well, and i wish BMAC nothing but the best.
  7. I for one, hate the UD anywhere I go, and the Cell, as much as it's a great park, the UD sucks worse than anywhere else in my opinion. I would only sit up there for a cubs vs sox game or a playoff game. So the tuesday pepsi night isnt a good deal for me, unless of course i get there early and go to the bullpen sports bar.
  8. On Mondays, are the scout seats half-price or no? If they were half price on Monday's then I'd consider going.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) I wont know until tomorrow morning but if the boss doesn't use them there are only 2 left now as 2 were requested yesterday. Thanks Steff, just email me and let me know either way. 2 tickets would be fine as well.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) I may have my hands on 4 lowers for the opener.. wont know until Friday morning.. is anyone interested..? Hey Steff, if you still have the 4 lowers I would be quite interested. Drop me a line at dmbididit@aol.com thanks.
  11. We are looking for one more team for a very competitive, trash talking league. Our draft is Sunday, march 20th at 9 am central time. Please email me for questions regarding the league. dmbididit@aol.com thanks
  12. the hawk harrelson's....thats great....if the expos can changed their team name, so can we...no more chicago white sox.....we shall now be the chicago hawk harrelson's, i like it
  13. does anyone know if u purchase one of these plans if they allow u access to possible playoff tixs?
  14. It's just a sign of how messed up the financial status of baseball is right now. Teams like Oakland have to unload these guys now to still get some worth for them and they need young talent in return. My guess is that 2-3 of the 6 players acquired in these deals will pan out at the major league level and in 4-5 years, they will be traded right back to the big market clubs. It so tough to compete in baseball with a payroll below 60 million.
  15. We just need a 5th starter. RJ, Hudson, Vazquez would have been nice, but lets face it, we need another guy who can go 10-10 with an era under 5.00. MB, FG, JC,JG are all gonna be fine this year barring any injuries. We just need a guy who will throw strikes. I'm not so worried about the HR ball, if no one else is on base. So a flyball pitcher wouldn't be awful, we just have to make sure we don't over pay for him. Any of those guys would be fine, especially if we could get Nomo or ELo for under 3mil a year, that would be fine. They could then use the final couple of million on middle infield and catcher. Many of us Sox fans think that if we don't get the number 1 guy, we failed. Unfortunately in baseball the all-mighty dollar rules. So the Yanks, BoSOx, Dodgers, Mets, Cubs, etc have a severe advantage over us. We have to make the best of what we have, 65-75 million is what we have, it sad but it's oh so true.
  16. 1. Odalis Perez 2. Eric Milton 3. Derek Lowe 4. Kevin Millwood 5. Aaron Sele 6. Orlando Hernandez 7. Jose Lima 8. Esteban Loaiza 9. Pedro Astacio 10. Shawn Estes 11. Andy Ashby 12. Hideo Nomo 13. Darren Oliver Those are the only remaining FA's left for us to fill the final spot. I know not all of these pitchers are good, some are pretty bad. I left Roger Clemens off this list cause if he comes back it will only be with Houston. Unless we can trade for a starter this is what we have remaining, its not a pretty sight, the first 4 are decent, but then there is a fall off. Of this list I don't even know if anyone is injured currently, but this is what we have to choose from, I hope we get someone of the top 4 here. It's better than Grilli or Diaz.
  17. This trade reminds me alot of the Ivan Calderone for Tim Raines deal back in 1990. Trading good hitting and power for a speedy leadoff guy. It fills a need, but I do believe Carlos is worth more, but I do think it would free up at least 4-5 million which could be used for the 5th starter spot.
  18. RJ wants to win, we know that, but he will be more of a winner anywhere he goes after the season he just had with the DBacks. If you are RJ, you have to realize you'd be joining a good starting staff, in turn, making them a GREAT staff. Bring back loaiza to be the 5th starter for cheap money and 1-5, its pretty intimidating. as for wh, last yr was willie's first as a full time starter, he tailed off at the end of the season, but all in all, he was decent out there. 2b and ss are two positions that most teams dont have studs at, so dont be upset if the sox dont have a stud there either. we already have two decent players there now, they just need to sure up the pen and some other holes, assuming we can get RJ
