QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) Honest question, is there any other team in baseball that has a publicly bad separation from one of its players as often as the sox? It seems like every season there's one with us. Who else left here and bad mouthed the Sox? Seriously, it is way less than you make it out to be. Thome, Rowand, Garland, Blum, Garcia, Contreras, Linebrink, Iguchi, Crede, Uribe. As far as I know, none of them had a bad thing to say about the organization. OCab and Swish are the only 2 I know who had some issues and it was brought upon themselves. As for Dye, he was done and the rest of baseball agreed obviously and he was disgruntled with his declining skills more so than mad at the organization. Bobby is a sensitive prick and Ozzie is hot headed and defensive. I have no problem with Ozzie standing up for the organization. If Bobby plans on plunking a hitter, I guarentee their will be a brawl and it won't end pretty for Bobby.

KW calls $30 million for Albert Pujols “asinine"
dmbjeff replied to soxsoxsoxsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
KW is full of it. He is this same guy who tried to trade for ARod a few years back. $25 mil, $30 mil, it's all crazy money. -
Any Ideas why Major Networks Dislike The Sox?
dmbjeff replied to Rooftop Shots's topic in Pale Hose Talk
this shouldn't bother you at all really. when all of the 2011 projections all come out and about 25% of all major network guys are picking the white sox to win this year, it will be OK. what they think really doesn't matter. i don't find much disrespect that MIN and DET get love too. they both have solid teams, thus they should get love on those networks. when it is all said and done though, it is what happens on the field. if you love the sox, like we all do, you will watch, back them, curse ozzie, love ozzie, watch on mlb.tv if you are an out of towner, etc. -
I really don't see the use in trying to help a Wild Card rival. With the way things look right now, the Yanks will be in the WC chase along with the Sox,Twins,Tigers, Rays, etc, no reason to help them at all.

i dont find the ticket plan much different than the ozzie plan, so i really see no use in ripping it. alot of teams do this, i know even the red sox offer something similar. as for the overall prices, that is where they are ridiculousm but if dumb cub fans want to pay $75 bucks for a seat, so be it.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) Within reason, what the hell did you want them to do that they didn't do? My opinion is the Sox have had a great offseason. I really expected to have a SP traded to have flexibility and am shocked that hasn't happened or at least not yet. My only gripes, be it small ones are Quentin/RF and the 3B situation. I really think Quentin is about as bad as I have ever seen from a RF. His struggles as a hitter are mind boggling considering his 2008 year, because he has fallen so far, but at least that year gives me hope that he can rebound to something similar. The 3B situation isn't very solid IMO at the moment but that could all change with the way it turns out, it is just much more of an unknown at the moment. I hope Morel can pan out or if it is a platoon situation with Teahen/Morel/Vizquel that Ozzie picks the right matchups for each. All in all, a great offseason though, I never thought they would have the money to do this, so it is all very shocking to me still personally. I am used to the, trade player A to bring in players B and C. That was the norm for KW, so to have this type of offseason of spending is still very shocking to me.

im suprised this hasn't been updated, but by my calculations, i think we have 19 guys at about $124 million as of right now factoring in the arb raises, the re-signs and free agent transactions. throw in the prearb guys in beckham, sale, morel, a 6th bullpen guy, a 4th OF and we are at $127-130 million. is this about right?

I find cowley entertaining as hell but let's give props to the real basbeall beat guys. Rosenthal and Heyman are on alot of things and pretty damn good at speculating too.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) My guess is that the Dbacks offered 3/30, and Konerko wants to stay down there near his family. Sox will probably offer 3/35, and he'll be hesitant because of family. KW gets tired of waiting, signs DLee at 1/6.5 with incentives. Plus it allows you in on next year's 1B free agent frenzy. With the Red Sox and Yanks both with top notch 1B, anything is possible in relation to getting Fielder or maybe even Pujols.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Not really news, I think its been publically stated that a few teams have made offers, and I doubt any of them were 1 year deals. Not that many teams are in on OK, seriously, where else is he going to go? No big market teams have room or the money for him other than possibly the Angels to split 1B and DH and the free spending Nats. Most of the mid to small market teams I just can't see throwing 15 million a year his way.

I love PK for everything he has ever done for the Sox. At the end of the year we thought he might be worth bringing back for 2 yrs at about 20-22mil per. That is an already steep price to pay for a guy who is already 34 coming off a career year. Bringing in DLee on a 1 yr 7mil deal gives flexibility for Viciedo to continue his development, gives us financial flexibility to bring in bullpen help, get 2 draft picks when he goes elsewhere. The smart move is to pass on PK.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Dodgers manager Jim Tracy collapsed while at the meetings today and has been taken for tests. rockies manager nowadays

QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) two DH's to a NL team for a good young outfielder? completely forgot about berkman signing there. i hate moronic posts and suggestions and i just made one.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) I'm sick of ATT UVerse not offering MLB Network. This is the time where I really NEED MLB Network. Dammit... Like I said before... I wouldn't be surprised if KW packaged Quentin and and/or Viciedo (and maybe even Floyd or Jackson) together in a trade for a stud outfielder. Can you imagine how good the Sox line up would have been if we moved on David DeJesus before Oakland snagged him? maybe quentin and viciedo could be offered up for rasmus??
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 07:52 AM) That's one thing I'm pretty confident in saying we have, between Morel and Omar. I think they're more worried about 3b bats. and also worried about LH and power bats as well
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) Unless we're getting Mike Stanton back, I'd be disgusted with just about any trade involving Beckham and it would indeed confirm this franchise truly has no organizational direction going forward other than to "go for it" every year while coming up short to the troops in Minny. yeah it would have to be for another young talent of equal value otherwise it makes no sense
-
i assume paulie walks too. he is going to want big money to come back and considering what you can get for about half the price, huff or laroche, they will give you similar production and of course gives us the much needed LH bat plus financial flexibility to fulfill other needs. the other 6 million will have to go to a closer/bullpen help or RF help if Q moves to DH like he should.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 17, 2010 -> 07:32 AM) And you just made my point. Trading Danks, as many posts in this thread suggest as PART of a package for Colby Rasmus, isn't going to make the Sox better. They will be worse. Their payroll may be a few dollars less. Well Danks should be traded straight up for a talented player like Rasmus alone. The need for additional pieces is not needed or otherwise we shouldn;t deal him. Another possibility is to trade him for top prospects which isn't a KW move or something I would personally do unless that top prospect was litterally a top prospect in all of baseball.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) There won't be fewer fans because they will be missing John Danks. There will be fewer fans because there will be fewer wins. And why do people want to trade him at all. If he stays 2 season and leaves, the Sox will get the draft picks so many people around here covet. He's definitelyh a guy you would offer arb. if you trade danks, the idea is to get better, which means to have more wins than the previous year. i don't expect them to trade danks, just to trade him. the haul for a danks should and will be pretty huge if he goes.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) When did I say they have no money to spend? I have only stated what has happened, KW is hinting budget. Guess what, you trade Danks, there are going to be fewer fans in the stands. Pitching wins. The Sox have Konerko, Jenks, AJP all off the books. There should be some money available for a decent bat or 2. Destroying your rotation isn't the right move. Its a lot harder to get a pitcher of Danks quality than hitters who can help you win if your staff is decent. If money is the reason everyone wants the Sox to trade Danks, it makes the Jackson move and the Ramirez very questionable. I didn't mind the Jackson move at all, but if the choice is Jackson and whatever you can get for Danks or Danks and Hudson, I take Danks and Hudson. If the Sox have $4 million for Manny Ramirez, money should not be discussed as an issue with this team. There won't be fewer fans in the stands if we trade Danks away. People said the same thing about Buehrle being a possible FA, that people would be sad and folks would stay away from the ballpark. The fact is, the only thing that brings fans to the Cell is a winning baseball team. I don't care how they do it and if trading Danks gets us a huge package of talent and makes us a better ballclub, I am all for it.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Losing Quentin and Konerko and replacing them with Crawford does not sound like a good idea. I love the people that say the White Sox are cheap yet they can have a $100M while being cheap. Do they want Crawford, I am sure they do. Will they overpay to get him, no. Will Sox fans be pissed that they did not overpay, yes. I am really glad they did not sign Hunter, Fukodome and Alphonso Soriano, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. They are not cheap but certainly not in the elite tier of teams financially. I think a better word is financially mismanaged. We have some bad contracts as of right now. Peavy, Liney, Teahen, Pierre, etc. In order to have high priced players you also need low priced talent from the minors to contribute. We lack in theat area outside of a few guys.

isnt this the 2nd or 3rd reitrement for her? i swear she has retired in the past and kept coming back. who does she think she is if that is the case, MJ?
-
the sox all season long have done things quite similar with discount codes being all over the internet, on twitter, facebook, etc. this is just another way to get them in the ballpark and make money in other ways(concessions, parking etc). this is just the same as a restaurant giving you a $10 off coupon and you go in and spend $50. the profit margin isn't as great but it is still profit and some profit is better than you staying home and getting no profit at all.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) I'm one of Paulie's biggest backers but giving him a 3 year contract at over $10 million a year isn't prudent. 6 months ago 95% of Soxtalk wanted the Sox to pay him to play for another team. I read a study and it seems in the post steroid, greenie era, the age players are most likely to hit a big wall is 35. Paulie is 35 next year. The get better on and off the field quote is pretty vague. It could mean several things. Maybe he's sick of the KW/Ozzie show. Paulie says almost every year how there is always something going on so the players are used to dealing with distractions. Maybe he's sick of those distractions. Maybe Thome is playing a part, although Thome has to be pretty happy where he is at. If I'm Paulie and I'm close with Thome, it would at least make me scratch my head when Ozzie keeps saying he made the correct choice with Thome and even took a mini rip at him when the Twins were in town, then says he would love to have Manny back. Really? As for on the field personnel, Paulie has been quoted many times over the years the Sox didn't need any in season help, so he really shouldn't complain about that. I don't take these quotes as a he's leaving for sure type of thing. I think he needs to know who wants him and what they will pay for his services. He wants to win. If he thinks the Sox are lagging behind, he'll go someplace else. He says he may take less money, but I'm sure there's a limit as to how much less. i agree with this post. paying someone 10 million during their 35,36 and 37 yr old seasons is crazy. he will slow down, he will diminish. what he did this season was awesome, came out of nowhere but at the money and years that he wants, i don't think we can justify keeping him. the chances of this season ever happening for PK are very very slim. 10% at most is my guess. we compared his OPS heading into this season against other 1B and paulie was very overpaid and very AVG or a tad below AVG. compared to others.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Not to sure in what the Mets could offer for MB, but I could see them being interested. I could also see them taking on Linebrink and half his contract for next year. [/color] DavidWright
