  1. good to see a future HOF's sits in favor of Mark Kotsay....that is in my best sarcastic tone.
  2. it would be nice if we can get it to 2.5 after this weekend, twins get 3 vs the rangers, not an easy task, we get boston, not easy either, not sure how much baseball we will get in with the hurricane
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 12:12 AM) Ted Lilly is making $13 million this season! I think your last sentence, you've answered the question...it would be very difficult to trade Buehrle, it would be a public relations nightmare if he was pitching in the AL and not for the Cardinals and it's one of those things where you don't realize how much you miss a player until he's gone, especially in the clubhouse. Yes, you can find cheaper pitchers. If you look at the Top 40 MLB ERA leaders, you'll find the names Gio Gonzalez, Jon Garland and Clayton Richard. but what will lilly be worth in 2011 when he hits free agency, i doubt he will get more than $10 mil
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 11:56 PM) On the logic side, we should be able to use the money saved from Buehrle's contract to improve our CLUB, if KW makes the right moves. The problem with letting Buehrle or Konerko go is that it's also going to adversely affect your season ticket sales going into 2010...so we might save the money from Mark's contract, but end up actually doing more harm than good to incoming revenues. Sure, if we ended up leading the ALCD in April and May next year, we could theoretically make some of it back over the course of the season like our July-July stretch has done for us the last couple of months, but it's a big gamble no matter what KW does. All we can do is go by past history. KW has approached the starters in the past and parted company with the one who wouldn't sign a long-term contract...there's no reason to think he wouldn't do the same thing again with Danks. Danks has a lot of value to the White Sox, obviously...but he has incredible value because of the cost controls over the next two seasons to other clubs as well. Maybe I'm underestimating the Buehrle market, he has run off an impressive string of quality starts in the last 3 months, but what clubs out there are going to take his contract and give us equal talent? It's going to be more of a salary relief move...and maybe it's possible for just one season, but I'm not convinced the cost savings won't be undermined by public relations damage from dealing Mark. It's the classic Catch 22, your head says to try to trade Mark and your heart says to keep him and Konerko. Of course, that's how we ended up signing Jose Contreras to a bad contract, so we have to be careful...every possible move (including standing pat) is fraught with risk. Mark makes an absurd amount of money considering what he brings to the table. I love him as much as the next guy but if you had a comparable SP, let's say Ted Lilly to compare him with, I am sure that guy isn't making $14 mil. His biggest asset is his ability to eat up innings and be consistant but you can get that from alot of other guys in baseball and for a cheaper salary. I just don't think too many GM's see Buehrle as being worth it.
  5. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) I don't understand this team. SOMEONE SHOOT THE GUY IN THE STANDS MAKING THE "WOOT WOOT" SOUNDS!!!!!!! PLEASE! agreed...they threw out some schmuck wearing a lebron heat jersey early this month, they couldnt do it for this yahoo?

  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Does our bullpen really have any chance of holding up in extra innings? Guess we'll find out if Jenks can actually get out of this... give the ball to pena
  9. why didnt we just walk the last batter to just set up the DP? seriously, ozzie is s*** for brains

  11. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) Is it just me, or has Sale looked pretty good thus far in his time with the Sox? i love his funky delivery, he hides the ball so well.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) If Beckham is out, I assume we move Vizquel to 2nd and put Teahen at 3rd? id assume a lillibridge, vizquel, teahen rotation between 2b and 3b with teahen coming out of the game late when he does play for D
  13. looked just like when tulowitski got hit back in june for the rox
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) That's sad at how many pitchers go down in a given season. This has nothing to do with Threets, but a possible theory is pitchers get overworked so much in youth leagues and high school ball, that by the time they are on pitch counts in the bigs, their arms are timebombs just waiting to go off at some point. Will Brandon McCarthy ever come back from his shoulder surgery? I bet that's doubtful. So many pitchers. Sad for them. I'd love to see a thread asking Sox talkers to discuss their days as a pitcher. What's the most pitches you ever threw in a LL or Babe Ruth or Pony League or high school game or American Legion and did you ever need surgery or does your arm still hurt at times? I don't know if it is overworked, but some guys I just think are built to pitch and are durable physically. The motions you put on your arm at the shoulder, elbow, forearm, etc are not the how the human body is meant to do. Throwing breaking balls over and over over the course of many many years will cause injury in some while others can keep on going and not miss a beat. SOme guys are freaks of nature like Nolan Ryan was, but a lot end up like Kerry Wood or Stasburg and need work done in order to keep them pitching. It is sad.
  15. if a player is claimed, like Manny and then gets hurt between the claim and the deadline to make a deal, can the team still give him away or since he is injured, could the team who claimed him refuse the player?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) You don't know that. From everything we've heard, he was unwilling to even consider trading Beckham, Viciedo, or E. Jackson. Unless there's some magical prospects in our system I haven't heard about, good luck trying to acquire above average talent with the likes of Flowers, etc. For a rental and at the price of Beckham or Viciedo, it just wasn't worth it. We all know EJax was the guy we were going to flip for Dunn and Washington renigged on the deal. Rizzo thought he could get a great package, but you don't get great packages for guys with 2 months til free agency.
  17. Frank also did most of his damage before Comiskey/Cell became the bandbox that it is now. If they had the fences where they are now, Frank easily would of had another 5 HR a season I think.
  18. Frank was such an awesome hitter. It was an honor as a fan to see someone of his abilities play for the White Sox. Many would argue that Albert Pujols is better than Frank ever was and as a complete player, I would agree, but as hitters, just pure hitters in the batters box, they are mirror images of each other and I am talking Frank's early years, not when he decided to just hit HR's. Great power, great eye, awesome OBP, hit for average.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 01:32 AM) Don't you guys wish we'd acquired a Manny type player right after the break when we were in first place? Why do we always gotta wait so long? I know ... Berkman, Mr. DL turned down the trade. we could of overpaid for dunn but longterm it just wasn't worth it. KW did all he could to get dunn. now why we haven't obtained adam laroche i will never know. he seemed so damn logical for this team.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) If I had to pick one word to describe the season to date, it would be "weird." The 25-5 out of nowhere. The horrible start. The incredible excellent starting pitching for a long stretch and then outings like Danks tonight. I realize all teams have similar s*** happen, but this season has been "weird" and am I a lousy fan for saying somewhat "frustrating?" It could be worse. One of these years we are going to be out of it in June and have something to realy complain about. Well June 1st, 2010 we were really out of it. Then we all got sucked back in by the amazing 2 months unlike anything we have ever seen from a White Sox team. We are an above average team and that is the truth. We have good pitching just hasn't been consistant enough to put us in the next tier of teams. Hitting, we spent 5 months enduring the horrible DH tandem of Jones/Kotsay, our 3B position has been mainly held by a defensive wizard, but an OPS for a 3B that should make anyone cringe, a possible future star in Beckham, take the first half off. So many things with our offense were bad this season, that the awesome season's Rios and PK have had were not enough to overcome, especially in April and May when we dug that huge hole we had to climb out of. I think wierd has been a real good way to describe this year. Nothing like anything I have ever witnessed up to this point. I hope we can climb back to 1st place the last 5 weeks here. It is possible and maybe Manny could help and give the team a boost.
  21. or could it be to save themselves $4 million dollars with the owners going through a divorce? he will be on the white sox very shortly.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) I'd normally agree but he really came through in the 2005 post season. But then again that was 5 years ago. if you want to base things off of 2005 performance freddy would be a SP for us this year. obviously you have to go with whoever is hottest. i would also try to go LRLR or RLRL...
  23. sphincter so tight we could hardly breathe...awesome choice of words hawk
