QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Just don't let him watch anymore Juan Uribe tapes. He actually looks like Juan a bit I think. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Who cares if he's better than Fields or Getz? He still should be a utility guy at best. Maybe we should have traded Fields or Getz for some other mediocre player. Teahen can take over Kotsay's job but do it better than Kotsay in the fact Teahen can play any OF or IF spot other than SS,CF or C. He then can be your main lefty bat off the bench. -

Just started watching....has Dayan had any plays at 3B yet today? -
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Some interesting numbers with their pro-rated remaining 2010 salary as of July 31st: Adam Dunn (4.08 mil)- .283 Avg, .376 OBP, 16 HR, 39 RBI. Prince Fielder (3.57 mil, 11 mil next year)- .260 Avg, .397 OBP, 13 HR, 26 RBI. Adam LaRoche (2.38 mil)- .260 Avg, .348 OBP, 9 HR, 42 RBI. Fielder,Dunn and LaRoche are the order of them in terms of production and value. Now how much of your farm system do you want to give away? Fielder would completely empty it out. Dunn would require someone of Hudson or Flowers I would think and LaRoche would require a good single A ballplayer or 2. I think we should give up the single A guy(s) and get LaRoche. We need Hudson and Flowers in the future.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Lance Berkman wouldn't help that much either, and even if he did get hot and find his old self, he'd still be a 1/2 stop gap. We need someone who is young and an impact bat. Whatever it would take to get and pay Fielder, we should do it. Isn't a mid season deal meant to be a stopgap for the rest of the season? Fielder would mean emptying out the farm system and then hoping to have enough money to sign him long term. The Sox need a rental for this season if they are indeed back in the race.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) Id imagine its Berkman if we add a bat, LaRoche isnt enough of an upgrade to make a difference and most other guys would cost too much. LaRoche would be a huge upgrade over Kotsay/Jones. Anyone would for that matter.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) JR hinted that the team has the resources to add to it. KW mentioned in spring training that there is something here that we don't see right now. The Sox are currently 5.5 games back and seem to be turning things around defensively and with our starting pitching. With that being said, if this team wants to make a serious run at the division, KW needs to add a bat. Teams out there who are clearly 'out of it' include the: Brewers, Astros, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Nationals, Mariners, Orioles, Cleveland and KC. I have mentioned Prince Fielder before but since his agent is Boras its highly unlikely he comes here. Adam Dunn and Lance Berkman who are both on the final years of their contracts. Who do you like who is out there? If we are making a move it has got to be for a LH power bat. I think the cheapest move can be getting Adam LaRoche from AZ. He is only due about 2.5 million more this season and will be a FA at the end of the year and AZ wants to shed salary.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 04:30 AM) DMBJeff, I posted the same exact feelings in the Viciedo thread. But the thing that I thought was important to hear was that JR has financial flexibility if we get to a winning percentage where a lefty big bat or similar impact type offensive addition can be considered. They will have to do a hard selling job to JR IMO because of his "We have enough to win" statement. But at least he would approve in theory some financial flexibility under the right circumstances. I know everyone will say it is now but not in JR´s mind, yet. Yeah you see too many teams do this where they call up a top prospect only to let him sit on the bench most of the time for a week or 2 before sending him back down. It happened to Kila for KC. He got in 4 AB's in his week with the Royals. Was it worth it to burn an option and let him not get regular AB's? Call up some other scrub if he is just going to rot away on the bench or sign some FA to do the job instead of stunting the growth of a high prospect.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:16 AM) I just think that we as fans are way to quick to call Ozzie a horrible manager without knowing the details about why both guys were sitting. I mean Ozzie is what he is but he is not stupid and he wants to win, no argument there. He managed to do that today without two of our best hitters and like you said earlier, the season in long journey, there is no way the starting 9 guys are going to play every single game. I think it is better to take a chance against a decent but still NL team instead of Kotsay/Jones getting playing time vs hot Atlanta team that is coming to town soon. I agree that sitting Viciedo isn't a great idea because a young hitter needs to play everyday to be able to develop properly but Omar Vizquel has been direct part of wins in the last two days. Hard to take him out when he is hitting the ball regularly the last few weeks. Just my two cents. Ozzie has put out the "B" team repeatedly since he became White Sox manager. I remember during the pennant chase in 2005, we played KC during the final few weeks and he had the likes of Willie Harris and Timo Perez in the same game starting during a heated pennant race against Cleveland. Hey we won the World Series, so not too much to b**** about after the fact, but he certainly has a history of doing this. There is a time and place to rest guys and I think you rest one key guy per game to make your lineup still competetive.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 02:09 AM) Just looked at Berkman´s career OBP and BA numbers, far better than Dunn. Problem is he is not having a great year by mean avg. Does this mean the rumors are bothering his production or just that the guys b4 him are not getting on base?? What would it take to land him?? Berkman makes alot of money and has an option for next year that he wants picked up if he gets traded. ANother option is Adam LaRoche. He is putting up good RBI totals and is alot cheaper. We would only owe him about 2-3million for the rest of the year.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 12:57 AM) I understand your frustration. Hopefully Oz just wanted to have him sit on the bench a couple days n watch and now it's time to play. He's got to play five of every seven games to make this worthwhile doesn't he?? Yeah Greg, 5 out 7 seems about right. He needs to be in the lineup and get regular AB's. Give him a real chance to be successful. Playing SUnday and not again til Wednesday and then again til Saturday would be complete bulls*** I feel. Give him 2-3 weeks of regular AB's and see what you have in him. He can play at 3B, 1B or DH, so he clearly has flexibility for Ozzie. If he can't cut it after 3 weeks of regular AB's, send him back down and let him continue to develop.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) Dude that is the team that we have and if Ozzie felt like Rios and Konerko need a day off so he did, and we won the game, what exactly are you complaining about? Both Rios and Konerko will be in the lineup tomorrow. I think it was ridiculous of Ozzie to sit both Rios and PK on the same day and putting out the lineup he did. They have an off day on Monday and could have DH'd PK or Rios on the upcoming homestand if they needed a breather so badly. He could have sat one today and one tomorrow. I also think Viciedo should have started. He is a big bat that could have helped score more runs. I know that a win is a win and I am proud that they won, but Ozzie put out a horrible lineup when he didn't have to. The fact that they won was a miracle outing by Peavy. 8 out of 10 times that lineup loses. I think that is horrible managing.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) Last 11 starts from the rotation..... Total: 79 2/3 IP, 56 H, 16 ER, 20 BB, 62 K, 1.80 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 3.10 K/BB Those are awesome numbers. Now if we can just start hitting the ball better we may be able to get back into this.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 12:55 AM) I disagree he should be ashamed of himself, cause he put a winning team on the field, didn't he? You call that a winning team on the field? Just because they won with that garbage lineup doesn't mean it was a winning team. Put that lineup out for 162 games and you might get about 40 wins. Peavy won that game, not the lineup. Shutouts are extremely rare and that was the only way we were winning today. We got horribly lucky that Peavy was on his game.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) For what it's worth, the stories say Ozzie thought Rios was tired and Konerko he gave the day off. We won, so IMO nobody has the right to b**** one f***in bit. Well maybe you have the right to b****, but it seems dumb to me. WE WIN! I am happy as hell that we won today. Peavy pitched his butt off. To put that lineup out today though was horrible. Inexcusable really. You can't count on your SP throwing a shutout each time out when backed by a lineup like that. We got lucky to win today. Ozzie should be ashamed of himself.
-
At least we know Ozzie can be fired, according to this report at least. I hate managers like him, Dusty, Lou, etc who all lean on the vets. This whole Viciedo thing today really bothered me. It isn't just today that bothered me, it is what I see happening in the next few weeks with him and I hope I am wrong. I see him occasionally playing, Vizquel getting alot of the starts at 3B. I agree that Vizquel has been playing well, but play him at 2B instead. Give Beckham some time off. I just hope they don't waste an option on Viciedo and send him right back down after only 12 AB's.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) The Nats have a guy at first base that I've wanted for a long time now. Seemingly a good fit for the DH spot, it would seem. As bad as we need a LH power bat, he would be the ideal guy for our team and would be very wise to lock him up on about a 3 year deal. We need a LH power bat in the worst way.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) $15 on Kenny. Gut feeling here, but I see Oz getting whooped. I met KW in the parking lot before a game in 2005. I shook his hand and he is one strong SOB. He would kill Ozzie.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) Thanx. Idiot is way better than the other word! Other good synonyms would be moron, numbskull or lamebrain. Thanks much. If Oz sits Viciedo again Sunday, he and KW will have an all out war brewing. No problem, I forgot some people find that term to be offensive. I don't understand calling up a top prospect in June to just have him sit. You bring up guys like that to contribute. You also don't want to stunt their growth as a ballplayer by not giving them needed AB's. I understood sitting him against Strasburg, plus he had to travel the day before and what not, let him get situated. Today he definetly should have been playing. I doubt he will even get a chance to PH today with Rios and PK being on the bench as well unless the game goes into extras.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) Does Ozzie do that? I don't remember reading quotes where he brags about himself? He's a players' manager and builds them up or tells it like it is when we suck. If we do win 2-1, I'll be mighty happy. WHo cares who gets the credit. You guys get worked up about a lot of things. Maybe we'll win the f***ing game? Let it play out before you freak out is my motto in life. He has said in the past that fans don't understand the game like he does. He acts as though managing a baseball team is rocket science. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) You don't rest your two best hitters on the same day and you don't call up one of your top prospects to sit on the bench. It's just stupid. Not to mention in two more games, they have the ability to DH Rios or PK and give them a rest that way once they come back home. Plus the Monday off day. Stupid. -
