  1. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Sorry, but we don't really know that especially with this changing market. I am aware of much more established starting pitchers getting great deals, but what are you basing those numbers on? What's wrong with keeping him hungry, especially for a guy with such a shaky track record? I think it's just the opposite with him. The Sox are showing confidence in him and that has seemed to be the big difference in his turnaround.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) Abreu is both a veteran and a good friend of Ozzie's. He will remain in RF no matter what. Why would that even matter? He's not in a position to demand he stays in right.

  4. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) Yeah, he seems pretty confident in that happening. Well, I appreciate the site he has put together, but I put zero stock into any of his personal predictions.
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) they can be depnding on where it is and the health of the bone. They should heal within 4-8 weeks. We are pushing that time frame now. If it is still an issue the bone density and health of the bone needs to be in question. I was assuming it was a simple injury the Sox doctors would look into. If not, you move on. I know you have more knowledge on the subject than I do. Is this something that could be a long term concern?
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) yeah I think the fact of his health means he's a no go. Otherwise, if we were to face this season with Owens actually being our CF...then clearly I'd prefer Taveras. I think a stress fracture will heal by spring training. This isn't a career ending injury or anything.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) I know the Padres aren't exactly strong at 2b either, but I wonder if picking up Escobar would immediately put Greene on the market to get someone to take the salary off their hands. Greene is definitely on the market, and the Padres have said so. First reports around Peavy were saying that the team would also have to take Greene. They are dumping salary as fast as they can.
  8. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 08:23 AM) Whenever I hear Olivo's moving to another team,or even the mentioning of his name throughout the baseball season I begin to wonder if the Sox ruined his career when they traded him.Iam just always going to believe that we stunted his growth and development when we moved him to Seattle and if he would have stayed here it would have benefited him tremendously.Iam probably wrong considering "you are what you are" but it took him a couple years to bounce back from that trade. Bounce back from what? He had tools, but they never materialized. Wouldn't Seattle have been the one who stunted his growth? If he doesn't have the head to accept a trade, he would never have made it this far. He's always had trouble handling pitchers and he can't hit a breaking ball. That's why he's been on so many teams.
  9. Why is everyone so angry? What did you expect to get for Rob? This deal won't make or break the Sox. They are getting rid of some salary.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) With the news that Zito might be going to the Rangers, there goes the two teams most desperate for one of our starters, even though the Mets still might need another one. I'm pretty sure the Rangers will still need another one.
  11. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 07:56 AM) KW won with a 155. Wow. GMs suck at bowling. It's good to know they're not wasting their time at the lanes. Maybe they do work.
  12. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Nov 10, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) East Coast crap network says Unknown expensive talent to Red Sox Supposedly for $40 million +.

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) if you aren't aware polar bears can swim Are they known to swim distances? Why am I analyzing this. Everytime I think I have something figured out on this show I'm wrong.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 07:55 AM) If there is a second island, it makes sense how the others little crew got around Jin and Sayid and straight onto the boat. Right, but if the zoo is on the second island, how did the polar bears get on the main island?
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Cora was in the running for almost every managing job open it seemed. He is a smart baseball man, but was not cut out for 3rd base duties. I'm excited to get Razor on board, and I hope he has a good arm at 3rd. I have certainly heard Cora's name associated with several openings. How many jobs was he actually interviewed for? It seems every year there are a couple of minority candidates that become popular for interviews to cover fair hiring practices, but are not all that seriously considered. It's very similar in the NFL.
  16. Unless the Sox are blown away by a rediculous offer, I can't justify trading Dye. He's one of the best values in baseball and I'm more worried about the 2007 season than 08-09. QUOTE(wallyburger @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 07:11 AM) Reasons for keeping Dye. 1. Relatively cheap salary. 2. Had a career year. 3. Good guy. 4. ChiSox fans like him. Reasons for trading Dye. 1. Relatively cheap salary will be atractive to buying team. 2. Had a career year, which would make him attractive if another team thinks he can repeat. 3. Yankees need a RF/DH 4. Sox finished in 3rd place. No one is safe. 5. Sox need youth. 6. Dye is going into his walk year. 7. Next contract will be his last big one and he will be 34 when that happens. 8. He is not a top shelf defensive RF and will soon be DH material. Do it KenBoy. Really?
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) Didnt Crede have a similar year like that in 05, and everyone was saying he was going to explode in 06... Touche. That would be a nice trend if it started for the White Sox.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) I wouldn't be so quick to quit on Vazquez. He had 2 horrible months, June and July, with a 7.50 and 6.82 ERAs (respectively). Every other month he was under 4. Two horrible months, back to back at that, is a third of the season. You can't just discount that.
  19. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Haha, it's been a great rivalry over these last two years. Are we going to be able to get another league?
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) I am looking to pick up one of these QBs for my backup to Warner/Leinart. Vick, Simms, Leftwich, Kitna, Pennington, Smith, Carr, Losman. I rank them: Leftwich Simms Vick Carr Losman Kitna Pennington Smith What do you guys think? Personally I think Simms is the Pick. Gruden has him ready with one of the brightest young backs in the league. Leftwich is probably going to fall off without the wr leadership of Jimmy Smith and Greg Jones out for the season. Fred Taylor hasn't been nearly as injury prone as everyone has made him out ot be, but he is not a reliable everydown back. Their offense should take a step back.
  21. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) IMO, Trade.Bait. And I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem paying some of that salary if they get some stud spects in return. I would not mind seeing the Cubs getting him for Pie + other spects, and with their luck, he'll be injury prone and Pie turns into a monster. I thought the same thing at first, but I can't imagine that type of a contract without some sort of a no trade clause.
  22. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) A Press Conference has been set. Astro fans are convinced its for 5 years and 73 million dollars. Wow. Thats crazy, if true. He's a fantastic pitcher, with a small frame and a lot of innings on his arm. Doesn't seem very Houston.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) The White Sox found it in them to step it up right when things looked their darkest, that day when some sort of human-animal hybrid caused Ken Harrelson's head to explode. Balta, you have me laughing with that one, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Hawk's head will explode soon.
  24. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) I understand the whole DH doesn't play the field argument...but without the addition of Thome, this offense is not much better, if it's better at all, than last year's offense. And what's a 1Bman do anyways...catch the ball, field the ball, hold the runner on, and occasionally field a bunt? They have value defensively, but not nearly the value any other position does defensively. Be it right or wrong, I basically lump 1Bman an dDH into the same category when comparing them in the MVP. Aruging Dye and Thome's a little different though, as Dye does play a more important position defensively, and he plays it pretty well. However, I think Thome's prescense in the lineup outweighs what Dye would have done without Thome in the lineup. It's hard to judge, because by and large it's just my opinion that Thome has helped the entire lineup. And while last year's offense wasn't horrible persay, it wasn't good. 9th in runs scored, 11 in average, 11 in OBP, and a team OPS+ of 95. Those are all pretty much the most telling offensive stats, and all are in the lower 3rd. They were 3rd in the AL in stolen bases with 137, 59 of which were stolen by Podsednik; however, they led the league in caught stealing last year, which is obviously horrible. Although it is a small sample size, look what Dye is doing in the 3 spot, without big Jim. He is just a gamer. We really needed someone to step up while Thome was out and thats what he did. Thats the type of quiet leadership Dye brings that makes him an MVP type player. It's a nice argument to have.
