White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie
BaseballNick replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Anderson has the same amount of stolen bases as does Wise and despite his bad average, bad ops, bad slugging %, and bad OBP, he IS STILL BETTER than Wise. Anderson also has much bettter defensive skills. This was the dumbeset of moves. No it's not going to make or break the Sox, but I see no logic in keeping Wise over Anderson. None. Wise may be the games current worst player. That's my point! Wise and Anderson have the same number of SBs, and Wise missed about 8 weeks with the shoulder injury. The team needs some speed, and Wise was a better option than Anderson given that need. Anderson is the better overall player, but when you're looking at the 23rd or 24th guy on your roster, you sometimes have to take the guy that fills a need instead of the better overall talent. -

QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) He asked to be traded b/c he was sent down thanks to a terrible decision by KW. If he wasn't sent down, he doesn't ask to be traded. Then KW has the top-flight defender he's looking for now without trading our 1st round draft pick. Why was it a terrible decision? Brian, as the 4th OF, can't steal a base like Wise can (occasionally) and that's what was needed at the time a decision had to be made. Brian is a AAAA player; I for one am not going to lose sleep because he's not here. -

QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) Hmm... it's too bad Brian Anderson wasn't a top-flight defensive outfielder, otherwise we could have just filled that need internally... Brian asked to be traded. -
Mariners acquire Jack Wilson and Ian Snell

Didn't the Pirates also draft a catcher with their early 1st rd pick? The kid from Boston College? -
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) I would really love to sign Goodwin as well, but it seems like we are down to Morgado and Jones from this draft class. I am still trying to be optimistic about Phegley, but the Williams/Thompson combo is exciting. Seems like Goodwin is set on playing at UNC from everything I've read. As for Morgado, it sure seems like he's fixed whatever problem he had at Tennessee. It would be great to get him in the fold.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) Someone said that the fence was a good 3 or 4 feet from the fans, is that true? Probably a little more than that. I'd say about 5-7 feet. -
Any update on Trayce Thompson? Mully and Hanley interviewed Mychael the day after the draft and he said that Trayce was very signable and couldn't wait to get started as a pro. I'm a little surprised he hasn't signed yet.

Carlos is back in Charlotte. -
Kenny is buying. He tried with Peavy, and I believe he probably inquired about Oswalt, Bedard, and Halladay at some point. There was also the report that he's looking into Teahen who would be a great piece to add on a contending team.

I just saw on Rotoworld that Pedro is scheduled to take a physical for the Phils. I imagine they'd be less interested in Halladay if Pedro signs.

7/9 Game Thread Sox vs. Cleveland 1:05pm CDT CSN

QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) I don't think so. Pretty late, but he definitely shouldn't have scored. Farmer said he would have been out fwiw. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) Pie is not very good. This would be selling very low on Fields. Josh isn't very either. Selling low on Fields is really the only way to sell him given his game the past two seasons.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:43 AM) Wouldnt he be able to pitch just one inning? When is the usual bullpen day, 2 or 3 days after a start? Cowley wrote that the day of the All-Star game would be his normal bullpen day so he would be able to throw an inning or so.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) Someone please explain to me how .308/12/46 = Jones .286/16/44 = Zobrist .256/18/34 = Granderson are all better than .291/20/51 = Dye Jones is Baltimore's lone representative. Zobrist has had a pretty good season, so Maddon almost has to take him over the competition. Granderson - you got me there. JD has to be in over Granderson; there's really no excuse.

7/3 Game Thread Sox @ Kansas City 7:10pm CSN
BaseballNick replied to knightni's topic in 2009 Season in Review
In today's Sun-Times, Cowley mentions that Greinke has plunked 29 batters over his career, with nine of them being White Sox. He's only hit five other players from AL Central teams. I guess he just doesn't have his good control when he faces the Sox. -

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) Cliff Lee has a better ERA than any of the White Sox Starters. 79Ks, 26 walks, and a 2.92 ERA in 111 innings. He's pitching much better than his 4-6 record. -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) That spin thing he did on the DP was despicable. You don't do that s***. He almost blew the DP by taking an extra couple of seconds to get rid of the ball with his stupid ass flashy spin. I wouldn't have been oppossed to pulling him right after that inning. Clearly, it looked like the spin was unnecessary but maybe Alexei saw something that made him think he needed to get out of the way of the baserunner in order to turn the double play. I certainly wouldn't make this judgment without hearing what Alexei has to say about it first. It's not like he's out there routinely showing people up or being disrespectful to the game or the opposition. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) The game would have been horrible conditions, especially considering that Wrigley doesnt drain nearly as well as the Cell (its actually one of the worst at handling water.) I do believe the Sodfather and his crew installed a new drainage system at Wrigley just a couple years ago so it should be a lot better handling rain. That said, it rained pretty hard all night. They weren't going to get that one in yesterday.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Gaylord Perry made the Hall cheating the entire time with a spitball. Whats your point? Hawk has told the story 1000X about the eras being different. I doubt anyone using a spitball in the HR era would be looked at in the same light as Perry was during his time. Cheaters today are almost looked at as villains.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) I am/was one of them. Sosa has no previous ties to PED's before this, and to prosecute him for something others did would be irresponsible. However, now that there is a direct link, everything is fair game. Just assuming isn't enough to keep someone out of the hall. The guy cheated with a corked bat and lied about that too. Sosa took every shortcut imaginable.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) WGN tonight I believe WGN will have the Cubs broadcast tonight, Sox on Wed, and then Cubs again on Thursday. Better than nothing for the out of towners. -
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) LOL, his numbers are hideous. 6.51 ERA(ok, no big deal) 76 IP, 96 hits, 63 K's. The first thing I saw after running a Google News search on this kid is:

THE OFFICIAL SOXTALK 2009 MLB DRAFT THREAD
BaseballNick replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) Brothers is a guy the Sox want but it seems unlikely that he'll fall, especially with the prep demands. Who knows though. Keith Law has the Sox taking Brothers in his final mock draft. He also lists Trout and Fuentes as players they'd be interested in if Rex is gone.
