  1. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) Who was the Dodger Jewish OF that took off a Jewish Holiday right in the middle of the pennant race?? That would be Shawn Green.
  2. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) Padilla got released for his antics. Actually, Nolan Ryan said today that they put Padilla on waivers to see if there was any interest in him. Ryan clearly isn't happy with Padilla, but he hasn't yet been released.
  3. Wow, the Injuns just demoted Carmona to the rookie league. 7.42 ERA, with more walks (41) than strikeouts (36) in 60 2/3 innings.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) A lot of his “spectacular” plays got lot publicity on national television. Those voters who weren’t objective failed to notice that these dives were necessary due to McLouth’s startling lack of range and inability to get good reads of the ball off the bat. So let me get this straight, all of the managers and coaches of the National League who voted for McLouth to win the GG didn't notice his "startling" lack of range? Surprising, seeing that they're the ones watching him play every single day, and you are likely the one watching him on SC or BBTN.
  5. 1-3 with Cleveland coming to town next.
  6. Anyone know if he's supposed to be a tough sign? Obviously, that would have to factor into drafting him as well.
  7. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) Interesting to note that all of the scenes involving Dustin Hoffman were shot at my school, UIC. It was surreal to see Ferrel and Hoffman walking around. I was amazed at the repetitiveness of shooting, too. They must have shot a scene where both of them were exiting one building down a walkway for three straight hours. I really had no idea they were going to be on campus; then one day I'm walking to my Econ class and Dustin Hoffman is five feet away. Obviously, no one expects to see an Academy Award winning actor on campus, so it didn't click right away. I casually nodded hello to him, and then about 15 seconds later I thought to myself, "That guy really looked a lot like Dustin Hoffman." I didn't get a chance to meet either of them after that, but it was a pretty awesome to be around when the movie was being shot and to have that mini run in with Mr. Hoffman.
  8. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) He did have him going to Baltimore, but he's not in the new mock that was released yesterday. You're right. I was looking at his May 27 mock draft.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) Law has a new Mock up with the Sox taking Everett Williams "Also linked to Fuentes and the major college arms, including Arnett, Heckathorn and Minor; they had a lot of heat in at the SEC to witness Minor's command performance against LSU." Has Fuentes going to the Angels, Arnett to the Indians at 15, Brothers to the Cards, and Pollock to the Mariners at 27. He also has Scheppers slipping out of the first round, fwiw. He has Scheppers going 5th overall to Baltimore.
  10. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) Without Quentin this is a .500 team. I disagree. Pods has played better than anyone could have asked, and filled that glaring hole at the top of the order. They are a more well-rounded team with a healthy Scott Podsednik in the lineup. When TCQ is healthy, I think BA and Wise need to have their playing time cut in favor of Pods. He's been a huge shot in the arm for this team.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2009 -> 09:59 AM) Lloyd Christmas would love those odds. So you're saying there's a chance?!
  12. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ May 28, 2009 -> 08:53 AM) I can't believe some people here were happy we didn't get Peavy. He's afraid to pitch in the AL, he's making a ton of money, and most of all, he doesn't want to be here. I'm not saying he wouldn't improve the team, but I can understand why people didn't want him. I, personally, don't like the idea of one player taking up nearly 1/5 of the team's payroll - unless that player's name happens to be Albert.
  13. I got around to watching Frost/Nixon this weekend. It's an intriguing story with some great acting. Ron Howard is a terrific director, by the way. It's perfect for those of you who hadn't quite had enough political corruption lately.
  14. Giving that kind of money and four quality arms for a guy who questions his own ability to pitch in the AL? No thanks. It seems that you end up regretting having these huge contracts more often than not anyway e.g. Todd Helton, Mike Hampton, Barry Zito, Vernon Wells, Michael Young, Kevin Brown, Carl Pavano, Jason Schmidt, etc.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) What pitch is that? BP "fastball"
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) That was before his 0/4 with 2 k's performance last night. Yep, now he's ready.
  17. I told my friend that the line on White Sox runs scored for this 4 game series was 10.5. So far, things aren't looking too good. We need an offensive outburst just to make things interesting.
  18. I didn't see the play, was JD pissed that Pods was stealing 3rd during his at-bat?
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) This whole conspiracy theory that they are taking money out of the team and going "cheap" on payroll is just manifestly false. They make little money, they have one of the highest payrolls in baseball, and are facing lower ticket sales and rolling sponsorship losses. They aren't juicing the fans, they are doing what everyone has to do right now. They are actually 12th this season behind NYY, NYM, CHC, BOS, DET, LAA, PHI, HOU, LAD, SEA, and ATL.
  20. Put Ramirez in CF tonight. I've had enough Lillibridge this season.
  21. QUOTE (Cali @ May 12, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) So he hasn't pitched competitively since the end of last season? That seems like a long time off.... I for one, really don't mind that with the guys coming out of high school. Most of those pitchers aren't ready for a full season of work anyway.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 8, 2009 -> 02:07 AM) Poreda isn't even close to ready and luckily I believe the Sox know this. He's coming off a rain shortened no-hitter, has a 1.85 ERA, and 28Ks in 27.1 IP. "Isn't even close" is being a bit tough on AP don't you think? He needs to work on the walks, but clearly, he's closer than you're giving him credit for.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) Sox sign Pedro Martinez (maybe?) Can he hit?
